      @iamaten2719 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Now that's what I'm talking about! Also, I would put one in the back of my truck bed and Climb right up in there while camping. Wouldn't have to bother with assembling and taking down a tent. When the trip is over I can simply shut my tail gate and I'm home bound.

      Kevin S, Awesome idea! Camouflage and insulation. Sound insulation especially! If you go back to the video of his first prototype, you'll note that the corrugated plastic is noisy as hell when it rains. Using forest debris and leaves would solve that issue at least.

    • @DrCorvid
      @DrCorvid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Hold the leaves down with sheets of moss if you can get moss. When dry, it's quite insulative.

    Years ago a fella I know developed something similar -- an emergency box folded out of 2-layer coroplast. He promoted the concept equipped with blankets and other dry bug out things, and it folded out into a pvc-covered pram-style flat bottom boat you could pull behind you and keep some things dry. It folded out long enough to sleep in as a dry shelter. I liked it because of no seams to leak, and his 3d spatial reasoning skill for the folding ;) His idea was to unload a stack of them at a time, already stocked as kits.

    I'd prefer this shelter to a bed in a homeless shelter, even in winter. We've done some winter camping and as long as you have the right gear and take precautions it's fine. We use fleece to insulate our foam pads from the ground and we also use fleece liners in our sleeping bags so you don't feel the cold through the zipper. It's better than a colder rates sleeping bag.

    Thank you so much for sharing this design. I have access to recycle all of the materials needed. I think for the south we will add a tiny solar power fan, solar lights inside and the icebox system from the other video plus a rain catchment system of tarp and a bucket. This will be a winter project for me, and hopefully will be a starter to maybe a homeless tiny village as I have seen a few that are working wonderfully in other areas of the U.S. We are planting a food forest with charity gardens (food harvests will go to those in need) and I have been wanting to incorporate some sort of tiny housing and work with a shelter for providing some temporary shelter space on my land for those that have dogs maybe and can't stay in regular shelter. I know that sometimes just having a month or two to get an address or save up some money could make a difference in moving forward.

    I shared your video. I have watched a few of your videos and have enjoyed. I saw a guy earlier in the news with you're same idea here. So I thought I'd give you kudos since your idea predates his by quite a few years. We need more people concerned about issues or at least willing to ponder the tough issues and imagine fixes.👏👏

    It's a great design-
    I can seriously see it being a Blessing to anyone who needs shelter or anyone just looking for a spot of serenity.
    I could also easily see this
    in a spoof video of
    urbanites setting these out
    in a park for the homeless
    like people putting out birdhouses
    or hummingbird feeders.
    "Don't feed the ducks your stale bread....
    Feed the Hungry Humans instead!"
    Homeless does not mean helpless-
    a temporary emergency shelter is not the same as long term housing.
    ANYONE can find themselves down&out in one way or another...
    It's only the details that vary.
    Some are just more obvious and extreme than others.
    I've seen plenty of rich people who were destitute in all
    that matters most
    and poor people who were wealthier in honour than royalty...

    A decade ago I was working on a coroplast kayak prototype and I ordered 100 sheets of 5mm, and I was able to get them 12' long for only about $2500 including shipping. You can do a lot with that extra 4'. Making your shelters of that would make it positively roomy. Maybe even enough for 2 friendly people.

      Really, a double wall tent (Bibler is an example) works well in below freezing temps. Bradford Angier wrote a book called Paradise Below Zero. Terrific tips for anyone outside in the cold.

      There is a tent that collapses into a backpack and it is also a hammock. Unfortunately that may not be useful because it is expensive and it doesn't help if you live on the prairies there are probably not many trees that would sustain someone's weight.

    I was homeless after I got out of the Marines. Not once did it cross my mind to stay in a city and beg for money.
    I packed my ruck sack and went in to the woods. I hunted small game, caught fish, made a small Adobe Hutt and stayed barefoot most the time. I rarely saw another person unless I wandered to close to a roadway.
    It was blissful and really helped me sort some stuff out.
    If was suddenly lost everything today, I would be inclined to go out in the woods again.

      Paul Elkins I certainly will, very kind of you. I'm a school teacher in NJ, and thinking of traveling across country to see you in the summer, when I have time off. It might be nice to get our boats together on a lake near you. I have also suggested the same to AmericanBoathead. I would travel that far, as it would make a great video series for TH-cam, which helps fund my passion for creating. I'll be in touch.
