Good idea using K&N charging oil, I already have some on hand, when I get my saw back from Rip Saw, that is what I am going to do, already have the Westcoast Saw filter upgrade ready to put on.
Saw is ripping!! Got into a patch of 24"-30" white oak in a holler this week. used what I learned from your slick stumping videos to get over my fear of pulling wood out of them or pinching my saw. I was pretty successful, only one of them pulling a tiny 1" fiber out of the heart. My stumps were way more clean and professional than my traditional bore or chase cut stumps. The most important info for me that I had always struggled with is being mindful to not bury the bar in the tree and it won't get pinched as you drag around the tree. Thanks for all the videos I have become a much better cutter from learning from you.
Watching those trees fall never gets old and that 500 puts em down. keep us informed on whether the filter helps keep the fines out. Stay safe out there.
I bought one of the "green weenie's" for my 500i a couple years ago, but I might have to invest in a couple of these, too. For durability sake, I like having the cover on, as opposed to a foam filter just hanging out in the wind. Thanks for the video, man! Keep pushing forward!
Looks like you’ve started your own little chainsaw repair shop Just needs more white and black saws now Stihl really does make a good saw everyone has a preference
Stihl has its high points and so does Husqvarna. At this point my operation is running off 500i’s for felling and 592’s for bucking. It’s the same with skidders I prefer timberjack cable skidders for certain jobs and John Deere Grapples for others. In the effort for maximum efficiency you gotta have an open mind.
@ I totally agree you want some more weight with the saw for bucking and lighter for cutting so you don’t get wore out carrying the saw all day. Timberjack cable skidders are awesome. My fav. Is the 240 And we used a 540 grapple for long easy skids. But also the 540 cable skidders are awesome too. Just light in the back end so we put calcium in the rear tires
Yeah I like a bigger grapple machine for big oaks. I like the jacks for cabling because there easy on the knees. I hope next year to add a couple 640 cables to the fleet even though there a climb and one more Timberjack.
@ ya it’s nice to have skidders at different jobs so u don’t have to wait for a float to move it all the time you sure got your shit together it’s refreshing to hear
Nice Looking Black Walnut and Huge White Oak. Just hanging out today to Windy to do anything outside. Tomorrow doing some Log Cutting myself for about 2hours no more than that. A little Colder out now which makes for good Cutting. I like that Stihl Saw of yours. Its a Beast Buddy. Stay Safe out there and tell your Dad hello for Me. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
I guess a good and bad part about area I’m in is the terrain (Wv,Oh,Ky) it was super windy last week so I dropped in a valley and cut a big poplar patch.. not big money but better than not making anything
I bought my first 500i in ‘20. I’ve never had an issue with fines getting through into the horn cutting hardwood. I could see those that cut on fires might need this but bling is always nice I guess.
A boy that worked for me years ago thought he was doing good and took the filter off of the saw and was running it without a filter. It didn’t last three days and blowed up because of that going in the sound will wipe the sound and piston come out.
I like your videos a lot. I want to ask you if you can make a full video about jump cut with all the details. It is super impressive how you do it . Please make a video about. Thank you Artur
Do you think the Max Flow cover would work with this filter? Thinking since the Max Flow cover is a little bigger that it may allow more airflow. Not sure about it seating correctly though.
@@Good.Fellers Well, I can confirm that the Max Flow cover does fit with the WC Saw filter. I tried both the stock cover and the Max Flow and they seem to lock up with the same force. I did notice the stock cover has venting at the top whereas the Max Flow is solid; but, the Max Flow cover seems to have more space all around for more airflow. I did not notice any deformation of the WC Saw filter cage different than the stock cover. I'm going to run with it and see how it performs. I don't think I will be able to "feel" any difference in performance. Too subjective of a metric and I don't think I have enough time behind a stock 500i to be a good judge. But, hey, that black cover just looks better; and that's half the battle. Lol.
Same here! That and just enjoy watching an awesome saw. I have my new 500i into Ripsaw for a port job now, just waiting, and waiting and waiting..... 🤣🤣
Mine is supposed to arrive Monday…….will be interesting to see how it works over a period of time. Though I must say, I have never had a problem with the original, well that could tell or notice. I have had it for over 4 years now. Time will tell………👍👏😎🇺🇸 Rick
Yeah, I’m sure it will work fine. It’s a bit more maintenance and kinda messy. I had so many people commenting on the filter that I had to get one. I can say in the past I never payed any mind to dust in the intake. So I guess a new chapter starts. Lol
Get a small bucket with a lid, dump some oil into it about a half inch to an inch in the bottom. drop the filter in push it into the oil real good ring it out close the lid and you’re ready for next time.
Hello. I have watched all you videos and I enjoy them. I see you bought a 500i. Very nice! You mentioned that you where gonna sell some of your saws. I'm really interested in one. Just let me know.
I don’t know about these Stihl saws. The porting is a luxury item to get more power out of a lighter saw and that can apply to any saw so excluding that.. They need a better air filter, they need a Gucci clutch cover, they need better AV springs, they need, XYZ.. You’d think Stihl would’ve made a mod 2 within months remediating these known issues. I have always run Huskys cause the AV is better and the air filters don’t even really get dirty by the way they spin the air charge in the intake most of the dirt never gets to the filter.
@ They are super light, hopefully Husky steps up their game. The 261 Stihl is super impressive also. Again, lighter than the 550xp by a pound or so with more power.
Why back bar like that? Doesn't make sense🤷🏻♂️.... a pulling chain is easier on the saw and the body. Unless you are filling the curf to stop the bar being pinched. That's why wedges exist 🤪
Gordy is very knowledgeable with his saws. And I use K&N air filters where possible, the charging oil keeps everything out.

No, splitting firewoid

Not sure, never seen one in the wild

Do it
like a dirtbike filter. maybe a finger of grease where filter makes contact w plastic. just like a dirtbike
I can’t take mess
I thought about it though
What state? Indiana?
I prefer not to say but I’m in the Midwest

I have a guy coming Monday to buy a bunch of old saws
If he doesn’t show I’ll post it
Thank you!
Did i hear you say more skidders?!!! You thinking 640D's?
Yup
@Good.Fellers nice that'll help keep that 500i busy!
@mattlynch2823 oh yeah
@Good.Fellers did you find a good cutter to help or is it just so you can stage them around on different jobs?
Starting to really like that saw!
Damn what happened to the thumb?
Chopped itoff

@jdatwood7086 husky makes a awesome 592 but anything smaller doesn’t seam to match up
@ yes, I love mine. Didn’t care for it when I got it but I changed the gearing like I mentioned and love it since.
Me too.
If you don’t keep that sawdust out from going in the engine, that’s all will not last long at all especially cutting timber
👍
After watching you, its hard to watch other videos of guys trying to cut trees.
Thank you for the compliment. I really appreciate it.
