You're kinda wrong about the "end of Battleborn" ! It is true that the game is no longer playable multiplayer as even private "servers"(they were just private lobbies) need gearbox servers to be online...but there still is a community that is active for it. The "official" (not really, was just shared by gearbox but not made by them) Battleborn server is active and...there's a "mod" called ReBorn that allows people to play through the story by bypassing the game's online checks, and the mod's creator ( Gweg 🙏) has plans to add coop and multiplayer in the future. The game may be dead but...the community's still alive and trying!
all this means is, if Gearbox gets the rights to publish Battleborn, OFFLINE mode and hosting is a MUST HAVE FEATURE! Offline Story mode, PVE and PVP vs bots, and the ability to host PVE and PVP, either by making Community servers, peer2peer or LAN types. Also some modifiers like Third Person mode would be nice to have. Getting some minigames in Battleborn to have things to do, as well as some character tweaking is also a good thing.
also the fact the porn almost saved the game if people treated the whole blizzard banning porn as a challenge... a challenge blizzard lost and yet they keep fighting

So, they thought the one thing that got Overwatch so popular is its porn and thought it would be a good marketing strategy? Honestly, considering how mid Overwatch itself is and how Overwatch fans talk a bit too much about the porn to be just a fun fact, they weren't too far off.
One more thing about Multiversus is how they killed the game's modding scene. There was a surprisingly active modding scene creating character replacements for the game that also worked online, but WB ended up DMCAing the Gamebanana page so now nobody gets to have any fun. I know a friend of mine who created a bunch of mods and was even a manager for the Gamebanana page being bummmed out about it. I mean yeah, there's the off-chance someone could make a mod to make all the character costumes free, but to my knowledge a lot of Gamebanana pages end up removing those sorts of mods regardless.
Ain't it just a sad fact of the industry that all mods are considered some kind of lost revenue to the bean counters at the top? feels like I've seen so many games go the same route of burning the modding scene for no good reason the past 10 years like DbD, Skyrim and even GTA of all things. really sad to say that the industry deserves the crash thats inevitable when they are repeating the mistakes of the 80s and releasing a massive flow of trash then telling off people trying to fix said trash or even make their titles but better.

For Battleborn, I just had the mental image of whoever their mascot is being like, "I'm here too guys," while The Scout and Tracer are doing the Goku and Frieza staredown
For Multiversus, I can tell you first hand that there are actually quite a lot of people willing to give it a second chance, mostly thanks to the open communication PlayerFirstGames has with players (well, sometimes at least). I can also tell you for certain that WB is not the ONLY reason the game suffered those issues. WB's mandates of Gremlins and Black Adam being pushed early and outlawing all mods was a factor for sure, but ultimately PFG were stretching themselves too thin and just needed more time in the oven to cook. They went 4 months without a new character after half of a year of 1 every 2 weeks, that impossible pace would be too much even for Nintendo. And that long with nothing new would lower any game's playerbase. I think they still have a chance, but they have quite the pit to climb out of.
It seems that the decades have a curse oversaturation in genres; For the 90s had mascot platformers, the 2000s had kick-started edgy and gruesome shooters, the 2010s mostly had battle royales and now the 2020s are starting an inflation on live service games (although they got their popularity in the 2010s not counting games like World of Warcraft).
38:39 Man I want to hear you talk about MVCI, I feel like you’d have a gold mine with that game’s development and story mode. 45:49 And now you make me want to see you talk about KOF.
Battleborn broke my heart. I know ReBorn exists but like...I can still be absolutely furious at how it was treated. I usually hate most of the pieces involved in Battleborn, but they managed to connect them in a way where I was even fine dropping into genuine PvP without getting tilted. Then Randy Pitchford decided to crank his 'Bitchford' dial to 12: Had to compete with Overwatch despite not overlapping with the game beside gunplay, so y'know butting heads with the biggest shooter release at that moment. ...then Gearbox didn't market the game. Then the game wasn't something as plebian as 'Free-to-play' once they swapped to that. It was just a 'free trial', you peasant, you don't get the *actual* game...or that's what he wanted you to think. *Then* he decided to tweet about the r34 Battleborn subreddit...publicly, as advertisement for the game. (Tweet's still up by the way, if you wanna go point and laugh.) Honestly just...the overall treatment of Battleborn gave me a bias against him even before all of the *other* stuff.
When I see the over-abundance of live service games these days and how some games with genuinely-good ideas and gameplay mechanics get buried under a sea of battle passes I think back to a different model of "live service" game that I wish took off instead: Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. The game wasn't free-to-play, sure, but the seasonal passes were all free and it was VERY manageable to grind out the cosmetic items simply by playing online without having to drop a dime. We all thought we were getting burned out with the amount of CTR being released every month but, looking at the state of these battle-pass-focused games nowadays I think most of us realize now that we actually had it pretty good back then.
The amount of content that game ended up getting was amazing. Not to mention damn near every character that had ever been introduced in Crash history being made a racer. Was absolutely worth annihilating my fingers to learn all the advanced tech
I genuinely think it should have been bimonthly instead of fully monthly. Have a 30-day break between each GP, let the players get over their burnout, then send in new content to rake 'em back in. But nah, money now questions later, amirite... ACTIVISION? I love Crash and Spyro, but I hate the guy who adopted them. At least the triplets who took care of the bandicoot and dragon were wonderful.
honestly kind of insane how even after this video was uploaded there's things that are changing with overwatch, they announced yesterday that they're actually going back on a lot of greedy decisions for the game, they're giving currency in the battle passes now, they're giving all players access to all heroes permanently and is launching with a new hero, they're putting more focus into changing problematic maps for the game and giving a more accessible way to get feedback on changes they want to implement, a big part of that is because literal satan isn't running blizzard anymore but even with that I'm genuinely glad that they're trying to bring back goodwill with the community, at this point if overwatch can come back from the trenches it was in i think multiversus can too
I remember about 2 years back when I got a PS4 for the first time, and my brother gave me a few sealed games that he just had laying around. It was Battleborn, and it just didn't seem that interesting to me, so I gave it to my friend since I figured he'd like it. He called me 2 days later dying laughing and said that he popped it in and all the servers were shut down.
Another good thing to note about live service/GaaS games in particular is that, unlike other games where you play and you're dome with it, because it wants you on the Infinite Money Treadmill, there is an inherently limited supply of players since most people can only handle one or two of them. And we're at a point so far with these games that everyone either has one or doesn't want one. Personally, I think a big reason behind Helldivers 2's success despite being live service is that they *don't* have any form of Progression Treadmill, you can play whenever you want and there's no dailies, plus you can just get the currency in-game easily, and not for comically small amounts either.
With so many games getting de-listed, I guess I might as well take the plunge Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me We pillage plunder, we rifle and loot Drink up me hearties, yo ho We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot Drink up me hearties, yo ho Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me We extort and pilfer, we filch and sack Drink up me hearties, yo ho Maraud and embezzle and even hijack Drink up me hearties, yo ho Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
19:23 After all these years of trying to understand the joke Rank10ygo made in his Legacy of the Worthless triple feature with Dark Scorpions, I finally get the reference.
All the criticism of Multiversus are 100% valid The only one I have a problem people making is that it’s “dystopian” to have Bugs Bunny fight Aria Stark since their so wildly different mediums and tones and are shoehorned in because they own the rights When like, that’s what makes it cool/funny? And Smash does this all the time with Kirby being able to swallow the sexually charged Bayonetta and gain her sexy hair glasses and mole.
Yeah I think that criticism is kind bull because smash didn’t do anything meaningful with it’s crossover until brawl and even then they removed it in smash 4
There are a few differences. Mainly that Aria Stark is a character from a series of fantasy novels and a prestige television show. Her getting turned into just IP so quickly is a lot different from, say, Captain Falcon. And then there's the fact that that joke is only funny so many times, and Multiversus was seen as something of a harbinger of things to come, especially considering Space Jam 2 and Fortnite. I mean, we already have Smash, Lego Movie, Kingdom Hearts, and Spiderverse. Not to mention Flashpoint, Multiverse of Madness, Lego Dimensions, Disney Infinity, Playstation All-Stars, and so on.
With Multiversus, the lack of new characters after Marvin, lack of single-player options, battle pass grind, and lack of way to earn currency for skins that didn't require my credit card number, are what drove me away. If they'd actually show off new characters and single-player content before the relaunch, I might actually get a bit excited, but for now, I just don't really care.
The roster leaks also didn’t help with that. When people manage to get an inside scoop and show to us that we’ll be getting Emmet, I expect to see Emmet
Battleborn just makes me sad, because I actually did genuely like the game. I liked the multiple heroes and the PvE campaign and coop dlc the most, the PvP I couldn't care about. Overwatch 2 didnt have pve, so I didn't play it as much. Overwatch still didn't have PvE. Overwatch 2 cancelled the real PvE mode everyone wanted. Now theres no coop hero game. But we have Helldivers 2 now so I'll call it a win.
Randy's the type of hype man that talks all this shit till his friend gets knocked out.... then pivots to being the chill guy in the room like he didn't cause all this
3:58 this story is made so much better when you learn that the trailer was outsourced to a studio who knew NEXT TO NOTHING about the game they were advertising. That just proves that the advertisers have more creative vision than the game they were advertising (even if their vision was just Wreck-It Ralph)
Good stuff. I like that this was a more themed episode of live service games with just the worst launches. I had never heard of Lawbreakers before this.
I own 2 delisted games (Cherry Tree High Comedy Club and Cherry Tree High I! My! Girls!), it deeply saddens me that less and less people will be able to experience the goofy adventures of a high school girl as she blackmails her friends and classmates, gaslights her neighbour and sells her best friend's personal info to a pervert/creep, all for the sake of a school club.
Well I think its safe to say that Bumbles called his shot correctly, you might be able to play it right now but the Multiversus launch is basically dead on arrival. RIP
As one of the few people who played Knockout City I gotta point out it actually wasn't a battle royale: it was a cartoony dodgeball game, like a sports deathmatch more than anything. It was very fun! But it says a lot about how badly it was marketed that everyone thought it was BR lol It also *sort of* lives on as the devs released the tools to host private servers!
I still remember me and my friend getting the game and running into the same guy as the only other person in matches over and over again. We figured out eventually that we were the only three people in our part of the world still playing it. We gave up on multiplayer after that.
I actually had no idea they stopped Multiversus. I just thought it just went into its little corner with its little player base not dropped altogether. Go figure.
Other Examples PT for Silent Hills: A playable trailer for Silent Hills (Reboot). However after a falling out, Silent Hills was cancelled, and PT was absolutely gone off the PS Store. The only way you can PT is if still downloaded on PS4. Digital Games on Wii, 3DS, & Wii U: Their Eshops are dead. RIP Pokemon Rumble. Club Penguin: It died due to a decline in players. A Pokemon Fishing Game: Visiting the PokePark a *dead* Theme Park in Japan you could get access to an Exclusive Pokemon Game. Jump Rope for Nintendo Switch: Made for the COVID Pandemic, but once it Calmed Down Limited Time. Super Mario 35, 3D All Stars, and Fire Emblem 1: The Darn Limited Time Strategy.
MultiVersus came back before the video was even finished and now Lawbreakers is back wiithin a month of being uploaded. At this rate BattleBorn will be playable again within the year
im genuinely shocked you mentioned the unreal / unreal tournament series but didnt actually mention that series ALSO being something you cant buy anymore
As somebody who loved MultiVersus and is eagerly awaiting its return, I have to admit the way the game’s open beta went down was insane. Season 2 was cosmetic focused, only had one new character, and there was radio silence from the devs for months until it eventually shut down. Compare that to S1 (seasons in an open beta was crazy) where there was a new character every two weeks or so. Like… something happened back there. It’s weird.
While it was only the western side that got shut down (yet), it feels like a good opportunity for me to vent over Disgaea RPG. Not every game series is going to make a smooth transition to a live service. In fact, when the series has a fanbase that mostly consists of powergamers, you could say it'd make a *terrible* transition! The Reincarnation system was adapted as the game's answer to limit breaking. Except it also set you back to Level 1 every time and you had to go from 100 to 9999 in multiples of 100, presumably just to be extra annoying. Then there was the infamous Communication Error that resulted in *the entire western playerbase* being unable to play the game until it was patched. To add insult to injury, the default error message sounded like it was blaming the user and this bug was apparently a carryover from the JP server's early days. When the PVP was implemented, players were already jaded thanks to all the annoyances. They were treating it less like a friendly competition and more like a chance to obtain more NQ, so they ran meta even harder than usual, making it a really bad time for casual players and boring for competitive ones since it often meant using similar builds. This only got worse with the introduction of *Super* Reincarnation meaning you had to grind even harder to catch up. By the time the End of Service was announced, people were mocking the way the publisher handled the property. Some would even change their names to things like "deadgame", to which the JP players joined in.
I don't know why, but at around 7:04 my video skipped forward right when you said Randy Pitchford's name just enough to skip the name entirely, and I legitimately thought it was an edit you did for a bit.
Ok, I've been hearing the whole physical media line a lot recently, so I think this bears repeating: physical releases do not prevent games from being killed. Its always DRM.
It's always a shame when the devs who are clearly passionate about their games end up failing in the end, usually due to corporations making it difficult for them. And then they tend to get blamed for how hard they had to work for it.
Im hopeful that Battleborn could potentially make a comeback since Gigantic somehow managed to get revived. I miss Battleborn so much because it was actually fun.
"Overwatch is Street Fighter, we're more Mortal Kombat". Considering how most people who play fighting games hate MK and how bad the animations are and how many more subpar games MK has to SF, that's a bad comparison, Cliff. I don't even like Overwatch, but you literally called it the better game with that comparison.
The good will doesn’t seem to burned on Multiversus. They’re doing some good work to get people back into the game. Now it’s just hoping the game isn’t a mess when it comes out because they had to literally rebuild the game from scratch. It’s why it took so long.
You're kinda wrong about the "end of Battleborn" !

Same with Evolve but that falls under the same umbrella as "main servers offline p2p only" type thing.
So I'm guessing gweg's the guy who organizes the barbecues?

multiversus having Lebron James be playable is kind of like if Nick All-Stars had the Mime in it, isn't it?
At leats Lebron is funny
I mean, lately he's been a walking meme
(Tweet's still up by the way, if you wanna go point and laugh.)
Honestly just...the overall treatment of Battleborn gave me a bias against him even before all of the *other* stuff.
Live service games will keep this series going for years (pain)
'With old school and new school shooters'
Poor choice of words Bumbles
25:26 "blizzard can do no wrong" is a statement that causes an extreme amount of pain when i hear it
honestly kind of insane how even after this video was uploaded there's things that are changing with overwatch, they announced yesterday that they're actually going back on a lot of greedy decisions for the game, they're giving currency in the battle passes now, they're giving all players access to all heroes permanently and is launching with a new hero, they're putting more focus into changing problematic maps for the game and giving a more accessible way to get feedback on changes they want to implement, a big part of that is because literal satan isn't running blizzard anymore but even with that I'm genuinely glad that they're trying to bring back goodwill with the community, at this point if overwatch can come back from the trenches it was in i think multiversus can too
I remember about 2 years back when I got a PS4 for the first time, and my brother gave me a few sealed games that he just had laying around.
With so many games getting de-listed, I guess I might as well take the plunge
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
We pillage plunder, we rifle and loot
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
We extort and pilfer, we filch and sack
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Maraud and embezzle and even hijack
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
19:23 After all these years of trying to understand the joke Rank10ygo made in his Legacy of the Worthless triple feature with Dark Scorpions, I finally get the reference.
All the criticism of Multiversus are 100% valid
The only one I have a problem people making is that it’s “dystopian” to have Bugs Bunny fight Aria Stark since their so wildly different mediums and tones and are shoehorned in because they own the rights
When like, that’s what makes it cool/funny?
And Smash does this all the time with Kirby being able to swallow the sexually charged Bayonetta and gain her sexy hair glasses and mole.
and gun heels
This video got me through Splatoons Side Order on a Wii Remote, thanks for this vid
I need video evidence of that
@@freakfoxvevo7915 once I get a capture card I'll do it again
With Multiversus, the lack of new characters after Marvin, lack of single-player options, battle pass grind, and lack of way to earn currency for skins that didn't require my credit card number, are what drove me away. If they'd actually show off new characters and single-player content before the relaunch, I might actually get a bit excited, but for now, I just don't really care.
Checking back-in for the relauch of Multiversus!!
When it came back from the dead, not all of it came back.
Look who was right all along
The roster leaks also didn’t help with that. When people manage to get an inside scoop and show to us that we’ll be getting Emmet, I expect to see Emmet
Games that if you bought physical copies off they might as well be door blockers .
And now Concord just gave us a new record for a big budget game getting the plug 3 weeks after release
i was about to said "you forgot the culling" but you included big budget so fair enough.
TF2 has PvE.
It's called Mann vs Machine
Try Gunfire Reborn or Roboquest! Not exactly the same vibes, but I think you might be surprised how good they are as co-op games.
Calling your game a "Live Service" is just telling your audience their kids and grandkids will never get to play it
Randy's the type of hype man that talks all this shit till his friend gets knocked out.... then pivots to being the chill guy in the room like he didn't cause all this
Knowing Randy, I wouldn't be shocked if Randy himself didnt know it was a MOBA
Considering what's happened in the past few months, I'm looking forward to Games You Can't Buy Anymore 4: Concord Calamity
3:58 this story is made so much better when you learn that the trailer was outsourced to a studio who knew NEXT TO NOTHING about the game they were advertising. That just proves that the advertisers have more creative vision than the game they were advertising (even if their vision was just Wreck-It Ralph)
Man, I hope Multiversus can pull a NASB and earn its goodwill right back.
Good stuff. I like that this was a more themed episode of live service games with just the worst launches. I had never heard of Lawbreakers before this.
Fall of Cybertron is something you need to mention
1:05 he has both the Xbox version and ps version
I own 2 delisted games (Cherry Tree High Comedy Club and Cherry Tree High I! My! Girls!), it deeply saddens me that less and less people will be able to experience the goofy adventures of a high school girl as she blackmails her friends and classmates, gaslights her neighbour and sells her best friend's personal info to a pervert/creep, all for the sake of a school club.
Bruh..
That sounds like at least kinda fun as a joke
"no one even knew what battleborn was"
i didnt even know what battleborn was until this video
Battleborn was and is a First Person Brawler/Shooter MOBA with a Story mode, PVE and PVP game modes.
25:26 - Despite all of the dead games mentioned in this video, somehow this statement has aged more poorly than even those.
Ah, trap monsters. Because the games are traps and the publishers are monsters. Clever
Dude Huge... Dude... Huge... Douche...
Wow, that's clever.
TREVENANT MENTION LETS GOOOOOOO
Well I think its safe to say that Bumbles called his shot correctly, you might be able to play it right now but the Multiversus launch is basically dead on arrival. RIP
Oh, rad, a new video! I love hearing about stuff I've never had any interest in before - somehow, you do a great job of being fascinating!
Ah, so it’s a focus on live-service games this time. I suppose store closures will be getting their own video some time in the future.
As one of the few people who played Knockout City I gotta point out it actually wasn't a battle royale: it was a cartoony dodgeball game, like a sports deathmatch more than anything. It was very fun! But it says a lot about how badly it was marketed that everyone thought it was BR lol
It also *sort of* lives on as the devs released the tools to host private servers!
Can't wait for next year's video about concord
9:39 Trevenant is both my favorite Pokémon and my main in Unite, so I dont know whether to take this as an insult or a compliment
I still remember me and my friend getting the game and running into the same guy as the only other person in matches over and over again. We figured out eventually that we were the only three people in our part of the world still playing it. We gave up on multiplayer after that.
Honestly if I knew battleborn was a first person moba, I definitely would have checked it out
can confirm, game is still playable currently, atleast storymode and operations rn thanks to a fan project. more features are in the works
I actually had no idea they stopped Multiversus. I just thought it just went into its little corner with its little player base not dropped altogether. Go figure.
Other Examples
PT for Silent Hills: A playable trailer for Silent Hills (Reboot).
Super Mario 35, 3D All Stars, and Fire Emblem 1: The Darn Limited Time Strategy.
love the new thumbnail style, jack!
I had no idea until this video that battleborn was a MOBA
I’m letting you know that seeing the thumbnails change in real time is an experience that I never thought I would witness before.
You can still play Knockout City nowadays because the devs released a private server edition that’s free on their website.
Finally a new BmF! No more of that $60 multiplayer-only bullshit!!
Remember when we thought battleborn killed itself? Overwatch 2 was slitting its wrists so hard its arms wet cut in half.
Battleborn and Lawbreakers makes me cry everytime i see it. I wish the game got the Space Marine 2 treatment
I love how you got a few things about Overwatch 2 wrong, but hit the nail on the head with "the world's coolest racist"
The Princess at 4:01 Social media was obsessed with her design for good while.
It’s weird.
For those that are interested in preserving art Ross from accursed farms is making a big push towards making bricking games illegal
WAKE UP BABE NEW BUMBLE MCFUMBLES VIDEO JUST DROPPED!!!!!!
To this day, the only "battlepass" I've seen done correctly is Deep Rock Galactic.
I don't know why, but at around 7:04 my video skipped forward right when you said Randy Pitchford's name just enough to skip the name entirely, and I legitimately thought it was an edit you did for a bit.
Man, I have some really fond memories of Battleborn. Got my first ever rage DMs from kicking ass at it lmao
Just an ask, but will you do a video about the many, MANY extra deck and new mechanics of Yu-Gi-Oh! someday?
36:43 Ram is genuinely the only reason I play this game, I love robot Malcolm X
Ooooooo, new thumbnail style!
the scarlet and violet joke was amazing
45:18 "survival games are like drug dealers" a perfect way to sumirwze ARK
Im hopeful that Battleborn could potentially make a comeback since Gigantic somehow managed to get revived. I miss Battleborn so much because it was actually fun.
Law Breakers was one game I wanted to play. But it came and went so fast, I didn't realize it had come out.
I’m sure Cliff Bleszinski is thrilled for you to be the first person to call him ‘Dude Huge’
"Overwatch is Street Fighter, we're more Mortal Kombat". Considering how most people who play fighting games hate MK and how bad the animations are and how many more subpar games MK has to SF, that's a bad comparison, Cliff. I don't even like Overwatch, but you literally called it the better game with that comparison.
come on, dude, "Battleborn to Combatdie" was right there!!!!
The good will doesn’t seem to burned on Multiversus. They’re doing some good work to get people back into the game. Now it’s just hoping the game isn’t a mess when it comes out because they had to literally rebuild the game from scratch. It’s why it took so long.
