    SPOILERS ALERT
I personally loved the love story with Ryker! I think the difference with this experience and her whole “i don’t want to get married” phase at the beginning is that she chooses her futur, she choose to love and leave with Ryker. She didn’t wanted to be someone’s property or get married without choosing her husband but that didn’t mean she didn’t wanted love.
I liked this book a lot however the main character was so cliché that it was painful! When I am reading a book about feminism i don’t want to see a protagonist with a “im not like the other girls” mentality! But by the end of the book she changed so much mentally and i loved it!
I hope my comment was understandable and i didn’t make too many mistakes, i am only learning english :)

as the book progresses, her 'not like other girls' mentality goes away, and that made me super happy!

    **SPOILERS**
(seriously, dude. if you haven't read it, leave.)
I actually liked the whole plot with Tierney and Ryker. It was important for the plot, because of the pregnancy and the whole learning about the truth about the poachers thing, and also, she's 16 years old. I felt like the falling in love with the guy who saved her while she was in the middle of this huge traumatic experience is totally plausible. I personally think that it brought a different aspect of her character about and made the book not seem too preachy and all-men-are-trash-esque, because that was definitely a risk with writing a piece like this. bUT all that being said, this is just my opinion and not meant to invalidate anyone else's.

I’m with you! No one’s opinions get invalidated here! That’s one of the things I love about reading is that people can read the same book but have such different opinions!

Warning ⚠️ SPOILERS for anyone who hasn’t read the book!!!

Yeah. I did think the whole love interest thing wasn’t necessary, but I like that it was a choice. You get what I’m saying? In the county, women didn’t have choices. Their feelings don’t matter, love doesn’t matter. But, away from the county, Tierney fell in love, and that love was reciprocated.
And I don’t feel like they were insta-love (I notice some readers have said that), because after nursing Tierney back to health after over a month, they had maybe 1-2 more months together before the Anders part came in. So, she didn’t immediately like Ryker. And I remember Tierney saying they’d talk openly with each other about everything, even teaching him the language of flowers while he taught her herbs.
I really want a sequel. It can’t end like this. We have to see the rebellion, the end of the inhumanity and misogyny and the grace year. The last scenes open for that. [And I cried at the last page. Her daughter 😭 is the girl in her dream]
And was she dreaming, foreshadowing that Ryker survived? Or did she die, knowing her daughter would change things and make a difference, but not be able to raise Grace and live in that new society? And if she died and reunited with Ryker ... I’m getting Titanic vibes with that one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, good review. I didn't know that it was based on Lord of the Flies and Handmaid's Tale but today I recommended it to a friend and literally said, "It's essentially Lord of the flies meets Handmaid's tale.." haha So she did well bringing those vibes in!!

Hi there! I absolutely love your review, and totally agree. I read young adult dystopian books, and I really need recommendations. I’ve read The Selection, The Divergent Series, The Red Queen, and more. Now I’m onto this book! Could you please recommend some other really good young adult dystopian novels? Thank you. And is there any romance in The Grace Year? I’ve just started reading it now. Please recommend some other books for me. :)
