I’ve heard great things about this book. My ‘idols’ from my teens (Fleetwood Mac and Cat Stevens) are still performing!

Right now my obsession is with Japanese female wrestlers from STARDOM. A lot of them were women that tried to become idols. Their star wrestler, Mayu Iwatani, is the living example of what a woman goes through in Japan. Apparently she ran away from her small town because she was immensely depressed and a complete shut in for like 3 years after committing a crime. She never revealed the crime but it was bad enough to get the entire town to hate her. So one day her brother forced her to go watch a wrestling match and she immediately fell in love. She runs away home, tiny and out of shape, and trains at the dojo at STARDOM. She literally lives with the owner of the company, an old man, and dedicates her life to wrestling. She was frail, lazy, and very weak in the beginning. Losing every match for like over a whole year in the beginning. Now she's the current women's champion after winning the belt from Mercedes Mone.

That’s interesting. Almost sounds like there should be a book on that too

@@TheCodeXCantina There is! Sadly her biography is stuck in Japanese and no signs of it being translated. They're making a show or movie based on her life apparently.

Crazy main character? Sounds like those reviews belonged to Hilda Hilst’s Through My Dog’s Eyes 😂
