The Big Picture - Making India a Manufacturing Hub

  • On June 20, Prime Minister Modi, in a 165-minute virtual interaction with Ministers asked them to put the economy on a growth trajectory. For this purpose, he asked the Ministers for ideas which can transform India into a global manufacturing hub. In the virtual interaction, the discussion was mainly about China and the manufacturing challenges faced by India. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi gave a mantra ‘vocal for local’ during his address to the nation on May 12, 2020. The idea was to promote local brands and goods. He further stated that the brands which are global today were once local. More recently, the clamour has become louder to make India a global manufacturing hub, especially considering the China situation. In the 1980s, China began as a producer of low-end products and in 2010; it became the largest manufacturer in the world, overtaking the US in all the sectors-- drugs to electronics. In 2018, as per UN data, China accounts for 28% of the global manufacturing output. In this edition of the Big Picture we analyse what needs to be done to make a global manufacturing hub.

We are just ignoring china by saying they are saling there product in cheap price. But it is not true there is huge truthness is in there talent. We need to improve education system so that we can go hand to hand with gov policies.

Education along with behavioural change is the need of hour! People who are demanding for UBI ,we can't expect hardwork from them.

The way manufacturing graduates are treated in their colleges speak volumes about the Indian manufacturing. People will forget and start buying chinese materials sooner than later. Uneducated leaders leading MSME is bound to fail as always. Sad state of affairs.

With right strategy, ______ ( any country ) will become manufacturing hub. You could top competitive exams and be a 'leader', all that is required is 24 months of coaching in private for-profit coaching institutes.

Very valid point is made Mr Panda that We should move from mistrust to trust & verify in order to strengthen the manufacturing sector as far as the labour laws are concerned.Secondly,We should also invest more in R&D sector in order to offer quality goods to the consumers.

    Cluster approach

It my point of view. The slogan of Modi government make in India is a very crucial step in the government. India is faithful, just like agriculture most strong part of GDP growth faster than Pakistan Bangladeshi etc. Gujarat state is most useful of business manufacture hub. But the fundamental issue of land equare.

Realised a lot reforms are needed for India to perform well in manufacturing sector; including R&D, industry-academia project partnerships, simplicity in investment policies, replacing mistrust with trust but verified, working on our strengths such as labour centric manufacturing units, a major focus on MSMEs, atmanirbhar bharat i.e. self reliance not protectionism.

    Talking won't harness success
Our youth needs to be skilled
So that they will be useful to us as well as can be send to other countries ( increase in remittance)
Skilled labours at low price will create environment which can fetch investors from various countries....
Ease of doing business should be Made more easy as it's still a bottleneck for companies to start a business in India
MSMe is the core strength of India economy which is to a extent is self sufficient and provide sufficient employment.....paving way for there advancement .......wo Ghosh m thank gya

Definitely we will be vocal for local in a holistic & mission mode. Keeping in mind every teacher once student ( China) , we as well use our land , Labour and capital in pragmatic way to cope up with post covid era . The dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat will become reality if we learn from our past successes and success of others. ( Two wheeler & others)
Improving condition and keeping consistency is the key mantra to success
    Maximum untilisaton of available resources
Mindful to the fact plan and policy will not become reality over night
Let's make it mission like swacch Bharat Abhiyan ( awareness up to the ground level )

thats a good point that plants are near port to reduce trasportation cost but this benefit only states near ports like anthapradesh, chennai kerala etc but they have alreasy industries near them.but what about other states which are not nearby a ports like up,bihar etc they are already not have any big industries there and because of this policy the will not benefitted even if we become a manufacturing hub in future.

    India's problem is:-
    1. Politics interference in taking over the running business by force, disturbing for donations ( 100s of parties 1000s of functions), all other developed countries they to worry about 2 main parties and only 1 times in 5 years.
    2. rowdyism
    3. corruption in government sanctions of various departments
    4. government officials harassment
    5. land and industrial facility.
    6. Poor Judicial & labor dept support
Many Indian people know how to start business and run , but the above is the issue

    Summary:
    "Enrica Lexie case":
this case dates back to 15 feb 2012.
Now permanent court of arbitration @ Hague has given a judgement which is accepted by the Indian govt.
The judgement said it will be Italy who will try the Italian marines involved and India can seek the compensation for two fisherman killed off the coast of Kerala.
all these(8) years of trial, this case has brought into focus lot of disputed facts and three legal (laws)issues into focus.
    firstly disputed facts :
    1) Italian version:::
A)that the tanker from which the two Indian fishermen were shot dead was prone to many piracy attacks, dispute their warning Indian fishermen dint change their course so as a defense they took such action.
B)Their ship/tanker was forcefully taken to the Indian territory and arrested .
    C) since the ship flew an Italian flag hence the crew would be tried under their law.
    2) Indian version:::
    A) Indian fishermen were very much within the territorial waters
    B) It was recklessness of Italian marines to shot dead Indian fishermen.
    C) the ship involved was private ship having private marine guard so diplomatic immunity clause shouldn't be raised by them.
    *****THE THREE LAWS in question
    1) Freedom of navigation on the seas.
    2)Territorial jurisdiction of the seas.
    3) Diplomatic Immunity.
this case was taken as national prestige on both sides and it created lot of outrages in both countries. which in turn created lot of damage at both bilateral as well as multilateral level, as Italy is part of the European Union .
This particular case given to NIA (National Investigation agency) which has earlier awarded the Italian marines death sentence. Now, EU which has done away with the Death penalty has raised the question of human rights violation and Italy has gathered lot of sympathy on this grounds from the others European nations.
Anyway this Political,Diplomatic and Strategic angles were over taken by the legal course of action with UNCLOS coming into picture.
UNCLOS under its article 287 : has clearly laid down various ways in which disputes can be resolved. and it sets up a Tribunal to adjudicate the matters on the Laws of the seas.
Now coming to the bilateral relationship with Italy .
** as of 2018 trade between the two countries is 8-9.5 billion Euro.and have a substantial diaspora of around 180 thousand people living there .
And there is lot of potential for exploitation especially in the areas of Energy and renewable sources and in many fields it has a cutting edge technology.
so they feel compensation and justice must be see-ken by the India and as well gracefully abide the judgement . so that the relation which taken a step back in this 8 years can be compensated.

India has cheap labour but without skill where the china is bagging the advantage of it from global markets. also is that self certification works in an unbiased manner by the companies? i think no, eventhough trust is important the norms and rules that are to be followed actually are violated even in the govt's certification, then how can one expect a fair self certification by the companies? Its all bout the ease of manufacturing that govt need to enhance along with skill development in a sustainable way keeping environmental protection in mind.
