I'll be honest Car Quest has left this crazy urge in me the more I played it, something so different from everything else I have played at all. Brilliant essay

I appreciate that! The topic is super niche, I can't imagine most people would see car quest in a thumbnail and be excited to click, so it doesn't surprise me, but it would be nice if more people were into this sort of thing lol

@@solarpellets this is a deep conversation, it makes me think of Mario odyssey, the fact that I can't go a day without thinking about Mario odyssey despite not playing it for years after 100%, speedrunning, playing it over 10 times with a different "challenge" tacked on I know I could still load it up and continue where I left off in a sense this feeling and conversation you brought up were so raw and full of emotion it's a shame more people haven't seen this

Here is something to add to your thoughts about special games. I grew up knowing that Zelda OOT was the most highly praised Zelda game (Until BotW and TotK). Yet I had never played it. I've played other Zelda games and liked them verry well. When I eventualy came around to playing Zelda OOT, I realized just how amazing that game was. Something about it was "special" and made it art. I had no nostalgia for the game, yet I still felt like this was one of, if not the best Zelda game of that time.
I am now wondering if I will see Metroid Prime the same way. Becuse that's another beloved game that I haven't yet played.

I liked Metroid Prime, but I never felt the same about it as I did the other games in this essay. That said, I never really loved the game like I did with the others. Looking back on it, while a lot of my favorite games would fit into this essay, Titan Souls, Sonic games, Metal Gear games, Souls games, Trackmania, but a lot of them don't have the same vibe at all. I don't feel anything beyond "fun" for games like Death's Door, Risk of Rain 2, Overgrowth, Remnant, all of which I like just as much as, if not more than some other games that do have this aspect. I played RoR2 and Remnant with friends, so they fit in that way, and Death's Door inspired a good number of videos, from storytelling to overcoming incredibly difficult challenges, but Overgrowth has none of that at all. Looks like I have another essay to write lol

hmmm this is an interesting concept. There is something about Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinciton mode that keeps drawing me back to it, maybe its nostalgia but it's quite a fun game.

I love hearing what games others see in the way that I see my favorite games, and what draws them to those games. I would wager that it's something more than nostalgia, nostalgia alone doesn't make a game fun to play, at least not in my experience.

@@solarpellets I think when you say that you have one game that none other can compare to, I think I feel that more with certain songs than anything. Some songs just make me feel like no other song can, beyond explanation. Also I remember watching Dune (A sci-fi movie) in theaters I felt an indescribable feeling of "the future" or "connection to the universe"

@@thepl4yer235 The feeling can definitely come from any kind of media, it's just strongest for me in games for reasons I haven't quite put my finger on yet. I assume it has to do with the ability and, essentially, requirement to put myself in the artwork, you know? You can do that with songs, "how does this apply to me?" But you have to do it with games, the character is always your link into the game world. Either way, any media that makes you feel something is worth those feelings, I think. Art is beautiful, and the purest expression of, if nothing else, the human condition.
