I grew up in a time that country music was all you heard in my house. Mom and dad both loved listening to Johnny and June Carter Cash. My dad dressed between the looks of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. To this day my number one go to is country music, expecially if I can hear Johnny and June Carter Cash from the 60s & 70s. But I also love their music till it stopped. I will continue to listen to them till the music stops for me. Missing you both

When I was in High school in the back woods of Louisiana we would watch J. Cash's CBS show. It was beautiful and always good tunes, I had heard nothing like it before except maybe Tennessee Ernie Ford's show. Like TEF's show, it seemed to bring back the idea of family, struggle, determination and love. Well not long after the CBS shows I asked my parents to sign and they did and I was 17 and off into the Army. Now I am called a Vietnam Era Veteran....There they called me country boy, and I didn't understand it, after all hadn't everyone fished on a God blessed bayou, caught fish at midnight and plucked chickens??? Well, I guess not. So like it or not, I realized that I was one of God's country boys learning to engage targets with a rifle and move dirt with a shovel... And you know what? I was having the time of my life. I met my bride in a church just north of Ft. Campbell Kentucky, still known today as the home of the 101st Airborne Division, and I will always love the tunes of Johnny Cash. He was a real man; Christian, honest, basic, and humble. Doesn't get any better than that. He is now up in Glory singing with the Choir of the great almighty and Jesus is glad to have him in his numbers. God bless you my brother. You helped give me a great life of love and tenderness!!! P.S. I especially love his song "Hurt".... it explains what it is when no one understands but God the load you are carrying... Johnny totally understood the loads on us.... and that our only salve is the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks for the healing Lord, also, for your blessed music.

Chris McNee Johnny's pill addiction started as so many people's did back then with a legal prescription from his doctor for amphetamines. Doctors were writing those scripts handing out the uppers like candy saying the medicine had NO BAD SIDE AFFECTS. Now how long did it take the medical profession to realize that amphetamines were highly addictive and incredibly hard to get off of only the doctors of that time know. I'm sure the pharmacy companies knew the risks from the very beginning but the more people addicted, the better their sales.
Johnny's career was in full swing putting him on the road literally around the world for over 300 days a year. If he wasn't on the road he was in the studio recording new records. People closest to Johnny said the drugs made him two people...the first was Johnny, the most likable kind talented man you ever want to meet...the second was Cash, canceling or just not showing up for performances, the meanest most destructive man you would ever come across. Because of the times and who he was, cops that would pull him over while he was driving drunk and high but would just let him go, he was Johnny Cash. Hotels he stayed in where he and his band mates would literally destroy their rooms would get paid for damages by his record company, or by Johnny or simply look the other way but ban him from staying there ever again. He was even banned from performing at the Grand Ole Oprey after breaking all the stage lights with a mic on a pole when it wouldn't adjust to his satisfaction then walked out.
Because of all the enablers around him, Johnny's drug usage increased by leaps and bounds. He stopped worrying about getting legal prescriptions for his drugs and simply had a dealer. He was busted many times for drug possession yet again the courts would just give him a slap on the wrist.
Finally after ten years of abusing his body, having a personal meeting with the Lord which stopped his intended suicide, Johnny said he was ready. With a doctor, June, band mates, and family, he was locked in his home with them and went cold turkey off his HUNDREDS of daily pill popping habit. His cold turkey approach worked but it took weeks during which he was so ill there were times those taking care of him thought he might die. By God's helping hands he somehow survived and afterwards told his addiction story all the time in interviews and while performing to let other addicts know they weren't alone and there was a way out. I feel Johnny redeemed himself many times over as his confessions could have cost him his career. The man in black had no reason to ever feel shame once he was sober but Johnny was hard on himself.
I thank God Johnny was successful getting off alcohol and drugs giving us years of a sober man and performer. There will never be another Johnny Cash.

When june said to john I'd like you to meet good friend of mine then Ralph came out. It looked like john got jealous and frustrated because he wanted to do his own stuff on the show.

It would be pretty funny if old Ralph dug up someone from the distant past for a show, and the person who's the subject didn't remember them at all, like a grade school teacher or whatever. hahaha
