    It's normally only Jags that are criticised for their faults. How refreshing to see other makes come under the spotlight. Thanks for a fascinating demo. I'm a fan of the XK-R but I fancy an F-Type like crazy!

      I currently have a 2010 XK-R with only 51000 miles on it which I've had for the past 12 years - an absolutely fab car, but I've traded it in for a brand new F-Type which I collect on Friday - Let's hope I don't regret it!!!!!

    I’m the original owner of a fully loaded 2015 R. Zero issues. Only “problem “ is deciding whether to listen to the sport exhaust or classic rock on my sound system…

    I had owned an 2015 F-Type R for 3+ years and never had any issues with it. However, 2 years ago I traded it for a 2018 F-Type SVR, it has experienced an mass airflow sensor twice last year plus a GPS issue. Luckily it was covered under the warranty. Also, noted that my Jaguar XF sedan that I've owned for 4 years never had an issues other than a recall on the air bags. Regardless, all cars have issues. I have been lucky -- Knock on wood. Good luck guys!

    I had a 17 Coupe R. The only minor issue i had was with the molding liner inside the rear hatch. I drove it lightly immediately after startup since new, never got on it until at least 8 min after startup in CA US weather. Drove it like I stole it where and when safe. 39 months 36k miles later, still awesome no issues or leaks. Replaced front tires twice, and the rear three times. My buddy had a 15 R, no issues again. I've hit 185 numerous times. One petpeav, don't follow the 15k oil change interval recommended by the manufacturer. They want to have the motor fail sooner so they will sell more cars. Change it yourself every 5-7k.

    Dang dude, not only did you make a quality video but you also took the time to read everyone’s comments and reply to a lot. It’s definitely refreshing to see not only a quality video but a quality person as well. I’m thinking about purchasing my own F-Type as my first vehicle. I’ve been saving every penny working hard and I want to know exactly what I’m getting into when making my decision. You’ve definitely provided everything I wanted to know and I appreciate it so much. I hope your sexy car is holding up good to this day

    • @markholubetz
      @markholubetz  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Awesome thanks for reaching out, it’s really appreciated. This comes from passion and I believe these F Types are amazing and not much out there like them. As far as reliability goes, that’s always been secondary to me since the car delivers on all other fronts but yes, the odd electrical gremlins, freezing handles and windows, rear differential leaks or failures, coolant fittings and fuel injectors are but a few things that can go wrong . To note, many of these things are typical problems with most other modern luxury vehicles, so it’s not unreasonable. To note, good idea to have a few bucks socked away for maintenance and repairs always, so it hopefully does not take you off guard. Good luck on your search and would love to hear back what you eventually buy. Have a great week.

As a bit of preventative maintenance, a bit of copper grease on the active exhaust vacuum pump rods prevents seizure of the exhaust valves. I have f-type R awd 2016 with 58000 km and I went to the garage just one time for a electric seat button. My other visit, it's just for oil change 1 times per year! I put a full performance air intake on it and I hear my supercharge siler very loud! I put a racechip (brand) on it with 7 map, the car code check engine on map 3-4-5-6-7! 7 is the strongest map and 1 is the weakest map! I return the chip. F type R owner here, just an O2 sensor for me fixed under warranty, other than that no issues, a reliable car with a well proven engine. If you live in a wet country I'd recommend you get the underside protected, the sub frames could be better protected, but that's pretty cheap to do.

    normally, if the diff is leaking it's actually the vent cap that's clogged up causing overpressure inside the diff and pushing the seals out. Very cheap/easy fix.

      @@markholubetz free most of the time, just have to wrap your hand up and in over the passenger side axle tube and access the yellow cap, remove it, and clean it off. I would imagine the front and center diffs on the AWD models use the same breather system. I plan on trying to see if a vent tube from a different axle will work rather than the cap as i think it'd be less prone to clogging up. The ford 8.8 has a tube along the lines of what i'm thinking that's a little longer and tucks up above the axle with sort of a high loop like a dishwasher drain to prevent water from getting in.

    • @joecat8566
      @joecat8566 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @markholubetz
      @markholubetz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure. It does seem like a potential for failure and I just put heater settings to a place that does not require the vent to lift. The less it moves, the less of a problem it becomes as well.

    My 2018 Jaguar was a nightmare. It left us stranded on 3 different occasions and was in the shop off and on for 2 months. Bad injectors, bad fuel pump, lost compression, bad catalytic converter, blowing oil out the exhaust. I turned it in early on my lease and was happy ro get rid of it.

    • @PPMOCRG
      @PPMOCRG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What model was it?

    • @markholubetz
      @markholubetz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, sounds like a poor experience, but I look at the modes of failure and can't help but follow the steps. Injectors are known issues, so I can see an injector leaking into the cylinder, causing a wash, which then reduces compression on that cylinder followed by uneven running and firing which then overheats the catalytic convertor resulting in a failure there. Was that oil out the exhaust or the carbon which pours out as these cars do run a little rich. Sorry to break this down but it does make one wonder. Either way, a person does not need al these issues and interruptions because it means numerous trips to a dealer, who may not be zealous in their response to throw money at it. Sorry to hear about this. Did you pick something else up?

    3) Non-responsive door handles (you pull it, it doesn't trigger the door open) when it's below minus 10C. Same for being inside. --- check
    4) Shitty flimsy moldings --- check
    5) Shitty xenon headlights and sound system --- check (I know, it's by design)
    6) Slightly different color / structure / reflectivity of metal window frames right from the start! (LOL). Can be easily visible from specific angles --- check

      Firstly, great choice on the new car and they are amazing in every way. Oddly I see people selling the blade wheels to replace with other options which I am not sure why as I think they are the nicest wheels for these cars. Also, regarding Carbon Bibre, if I bought my car new, I would check every box for Carbon options. I love the look.

    • @ermin3963
      @ermin3963 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markholubetz I agree with you Mark. I think the reason why some people are selling them is because they feel like the light satin gray diamond turned finish in older wheels does not match their black package exterior. I guess Jaguar jumped on this one and for 2022 model they changed it to dark satin gray instead. Some people are just too picky and don't know what to do with their lives so they invent problems. You know how it is. I totally agree with you that they are the best looking wheels..and also the most expensive ones. I really appreciate your insight. I so look forward to my new F-Type next year. Keep up the great work with these vlogs!

I drive an f-type for 6 years now and it does not have more issues than the german cars I had. Old german cars used to be reliable, but that was maybe we are talking 20-30 years ago. VW, BMW and mercs are unreliable and over priced ,and the paint work is 💩 they were better built and more reliable in the 90s. Nowadays car manufacturers are more interested in packing as much pointless technology in cars as they can at the expense of quality and reliability.. look at the pointless button handbrake for one. Why?

    I have a v6s, no problems up to now, the glass issue would be replaced under warranty, the diff all I would say is to replace the oil every 2 years as its not expensive and will keep your diff in good condition. Never had a problem with the supercharger or indicators and I don't have folding mirrors but if you do have them I am sure you can turn the feature off if you don't want them closing every time you lock the car and if the exhaust valves jam open it's better than them jamming closed I don't no why you would want them closed to be honest.

    • @markholubetz

      Haha you know it. An F Type exhaust is its signature dish. The mirrors, as far as I know cannot be switched off unless a fuse or relay is isolated. If someone knows a trick. I would love to be able to disarm the folding mirrors. I also love the shaved door handles so that can stay.

    Jesus Christ! Get a gimbal that stabilizes the video. I got motion sick watching this and didn’t hear a thing you said.

      I agree, they are both amazing machines and not much like them. Cheers. Which Mclaren were you thinking about?

      I have rented a 2019 570S Spyder and a Jag F-sport convertible, each for 24 hours. The Jag is more of a GT car - very good handling, comfortable, and exceptionally quiet. The 570 was a beast with shocking acceleration and gravity defying handling. The seats in it were not good for runs of more than 20 minutes - too hard and not enough lumbar support, but my guess is that they were the base seats.

    I always tell people, no matter the brand of auto manufacturer, they all build quality, and crap products. It pays to ask, or research what current, and prior owner's have to say about the good, and bad of ownership of the vehicle.

      That is exactly right. I have always said with even Dodge and GM products, the small cars are usually junky but the larger vehicles like trucks do tend to last longer.

      @@markholubetz well I have had success, as have other's, with small cars being reliable and built well, but your point has merit. Most inexpensive small automobiles, aren't luxury by most standards that's for sure. People shouldn't expect $100k luxury, from a $25k - $35k automobile. Auto manufacturers imo are like consumer goods, they are out to make as much money as possible, while providing a consumer good. The quality and features, can be good, excellent, or meh, and even downright poor. Even with keeping with the same models for years, their quality can either stay the same, improve, or become worse. So videos like you are providing, is quality information and entertainment, that people can be better informed of what they are looking to purchase in an automobile. I've worked as a dealer mechanic for 3 different manufacturers, and as an independent mechanic for decades, and have seen the good and bad, from just about everyone.
