Our whippet girl barked once in 12 years. She actually shocked herself I think she didn’t know she could bark 😂

I own a quiet beagle... that's right...a beagle! She rarely barks and never howls. And she IS 100% beagle. I had her DNA tested. :D

My neighbor has 5 saint bernard, barking as soon wind is blowing.
Very strange that you included the whippet, Italian greyhound, and salukie, but did not include the standard greyhound, which is just as unlikely to bark, and even more mellow. Contrary to popular misconception, they don't need to run to be happy. For most, as daily walk is just fine. And remember, retired greyhounds need a home after their racing careers are over.

I agree.. my greyhound was so quiet my neighbors forgot I had one. He spent most of his time sleeping and getting belly rubs.
I have a goldendoodle that refuses to bark. Ive only heard him bark about 5 times in his life!!
My goldendoodle barks whenever he's alone.He is still a puppy tho so hopefully it will get better!
We have a labrador and I can count on two hands the number of times she has barked. She did bark once when she didn't recognise our neighbours coming up the driveway, until they got closer and she went into cuddle mode. She also barked once while in the middle of an empty parking lot next to a football field during a walk. Otherwise the only noise she makes is some kind of slight disgruntlement when we play with her and tries to "steal" her paws. And once or twice when she's been really hungry, you know, more than a labrador is at any given moment as the gluttons they are.
I had a Great Dane who had to be taught to bark! Used to say her name on command ( Rosie...what is your name? RO..RO) and not really bark otherwise. Tthe first time she howled sounded like a toy poodle!
A 75kg dog who thought she was about 5kg and could sit on your lap.

I don’t know about all Siberian Husky’s but mine never barks in the house and only when she wants to come in from outside after being hooked out on her run for quite some time. Never barks at deer or anything like that. I love that about her. Thanks for the video.

There are, of course, lots of exceptions. The Saint Bernard living next to us barks it's head off every time I'm in our back yard. My labrador, on the other hand, refuses to bark.

Dogs can be taught not to bark a lot, especially when they are young.
Definitely true... but some dogs are much more "barky" than others. Our Pitador only barks in his sleep.
My Bichon Frise was taught not to bark when I got him at 8 weeks. He is not a barker now unless he needs a toilet.
My gal Daisy is a yorkie maltease and she barks but very seldom

Depends, my wheaten terrier didn't bark once the last 10 years of her life and was never trained but my smaller pups got extensive training and still bark most days.

So I have a Pomeranian......I had not seen this video prior to getting her you see......the barking in nonstop. Oh Plus the shedding is insane! It’s everywhere even though she goes to the groomer once a month. BUT look

Borzois are very quiet, I get a shock when ours barks every once in a while, she doesn't bark at strangers, only if something outside is really freaking her out. We have ducks and cats that she won't chase so it depends on how you raise them. But... Borzoi is pronounced Borz-oi, as if you are saying oi to someone to get their attention, there's nothing French sounding about the pronunciation 😂
Border Terrier is quiet. I've got a house in the most dougie street in Iceland and my dog just sits outside listening.

Iceland is amazing. I've lived.on a Westmanna islands and in the 10 year's time I lived there we had 2 volcanoes one out in the sea,the other took no lifes but our house among others. My father was from Kentucky I'm glad we moved 🙃

I wondered if Iggies would be featured. My girl only politely barks when someone gets too close to our apt door, or when I want to sleep later than usual. It's really just talking- a few deep woofs. And it's so funny when the scared delivery person does a double take-"Did that tiny dog make that noise?!"
I agree my 8 year old Rough Collie hardly ever barks, only when someone knocks on the door, and once the door opens she’s fine, she has never met a stranger dog,cat, human.

I wouldn't call the Basenji a quiet breed. It crows and howls a lot, so your neighbors are gonna wonder if you're keeping a pet rooster or a wolf, maybe both. ;)

Oh number 4 shar pei I live in a apartment and my boy doesn't bark much at all a few days ago I heard him growling in the other room when i went to see what the noise was about it turned out he was growling at a bug. But ya if you're not a bug or a trespasser then yes hes very quiet

Why no Greyhounds?
You've got two really hard to find sight hounds on this list (that look identical) but not one of the most well known quiet pups?? Wheres the blue or red heeler. They're really quiet dogs. If they need you theyll cry for hours before giving in and barking.

Bluzette - training can help. My cocker spaniel used to bark a lot. It took me three months and now he’s no longer bark. He makes a chirping sound instead of barking now, which is cute.
Irish wolfhound is missing as well. His presence was enough to grab attention.

Boston terrier dogs - French bull dogs and frenchtons don’t bark also can’t believe there not in this list . They bark only when you need them too bark . They notice change in the environment also even a plastic bag wind blown out of place on a walk they warn you it’s a new thing . God I love this why owning one is a complete gift especially for a disabled man like my self .
So would you believe our Great Pyrenees mix is nearly mute? He's the first Pyrenees we've ever had, and we had prepared ourselves for him being obnoxious all night long, but so far he's barked only when he saw a coyote watching us from outside the back fence, and then for about 30 minutes before we had an earthquake he would bark a few times a minute. Well, and to be fair if our ornery old cat decides to block his access to our bedroom and starts growling at him, he'll bark then too until the cat lets him pass. We assume this behavior comes from whatever breed he was mixed with.
I have an Australian shepherd who never barks and it's so weird, had them forever but this one never barked much at all

I don’t agree on the Collie being a quiet dog, because I know a couple of collies who bark at anything and everything; cars, bikes, people walking by, other dogs, birds, leaves, anything that moves, and one of them nearly got run over a couple of times. The other one does this constant very annoying high pitched yapping bark when he wants to get off the lead and “round up” people, other dogs and anything he can find, bearing in mind that dog is only very young and neither are working/sheepdog trained dogs.
Akita. My akita only barks for three reasons; 1. I need to go to bathroom. 2. One barkeep every twenty seconds if something big is outside the home. 3. I'm going to RIP your head off. Short

Whippet is actually one of the worst apartment dogs since it needs to be active constantly. Being cooped up in an apt would be a nightmare for a Whippet.
So, sight hound breeds, mastiff breeds and the collie? Honestly, I'm a little surprised Collies don't bark much seeing as they're herding dogs, but the others make sense. Low energy tends to equal low barking.

I have very sensitive hearing so if I ever get a dog for myself, I can't have a loud barker OR have a high pitch bark. So here's my question- are Basenji's yodels high pitch?
The ones that I have heard were not what I would call high pitched. I am sure that there are TH-cam videos of Basenjis if you search, I LOVED to hear the welcome back noise that mine made since it was one of the few times I ever heard my girl.
It's not really a high pitch. We've only heard our Basenji yodel once and that was because our cat was in pain. I was on the phone with an emergency veterinary doctor when she let out a yodel. The vet asked me if I have a Basenji
It was a long three days, without her cat brother.
You are missing the Siberian Husky. I have beautiful Sibei that rarely barks. He howls from time to time, but is quiet.

I actually clicked this video to see if japanese chins would be included and was disappointed they weren't. Apparently they are a quiet breed in general and i can confirm ours goes without barking for looong weeks on end, and if he ever does he lets out a single bark, two tops. He is not entirely "mute" though, he does "talk", almost comparable to a cat meowing!

I own a mixed breed of Basenji and dash hound he is very quiet sometimes not even barking when someone knocks on door. I been his dad for about 5 years and wasn’t even sure if he knew how to bark for the @ least 10 months maybe longer until we visited a home with a bigger dog that started barking @ wildlife out the window when he joined in, it completely caught me off guard. I will say that since then he has bark @ other wildlife but even then it is more of a slight growl and occasionally @ what he deems as suspicious looking people. He is fairly aggressive towards big dogs growling and straight up attacking them until they realize he doesn’t want to be mess with.
Totally disagree with the collie one!! My neighbours growing up had two of them and they would bark throughout the night and keep me up.

A lot of people seem to think bigger dog breeds dont bark. Apparently nobody's ever seen a German Shepard, or a lab... some of the worst barkers.
Aviendha hmm. I’ve lived with German Shepards for 20 years with over 8 shepards. They don’t bark unless it’s needed.

Are you kidding, collies bark their heads off. Basenji's don't bark, but don't really make good pets as they are a hunting dog. They they can climb trees. You just can't keep them in.
