The real story is that I got it done at all, which definitely would not have happened back in the pre-TH-cam days. To remove the rotor without hitting with a hammer, remove one of the front seat mounting screws and use it to screw into the hole in the rotor; it will make contact wit the hub and brake the seal.

I've seen a few videos now where those holes just strip out

107 ft-lbs on caliper mount bolts, 34 ft-lbs on slide pins
