- Detailed review and test of the 2024 Volvo XC60 in B5 Ultimate trim, including price, features, interior, handling and running costs.
The Volvo XC60 arrived in Australia six years ago as a critical darling of the premium SUV set. But has rolling changes and encroaching age dulled the handsome wagon’s appeal?
We check out the one-rung-up B5 Bright version, which packs the 183kW and 350Nm mild-hybrid 2.0L turbo petrol engine and all-wheel drive shoehorned into a package offering more niceties than the entry Pure variant.
At $80,990 as a cleanskin, our test example loads in enough extras to command around $105,500 driveaway. And as we discover, not all of the options fitted add up to convincing value.
With a fully electric replacement looming on the not too distant horizon, is it worth your while stumping for the current ICE generation in its middling B5 Bright trim? Let’s find out.

Fantastic car, I own one, super reliable and almost bulletproof, steering feel
is a little dull but they are not meant to be sporty.
Timeless design.
Plug-in hybrid powertrains fix the refinement problem you had. Super smooth and powerful.
Would appreciate a review of the recharge ultimate T8 with the air suspension, bigger wheels and massage seats. Also curious on how useable the electric range is and how good/bad the real-world charging is.
the 'bright' designation is just the chrome trim
the dark is the black trim which also comes in the B6 engine 220kw 420nm torque
Ya I have an 2019 xc60 T6. Great car. Only issue, as you said, you feel uneven roads.
A superb car well built and super safe.
Is a 2022 XC90 with 40,000M mileage worth buying ??
9.5L per 100km on highway! We average 6.5L per 100km with some urban mixed in and driving normally.
Not sure why so many haters for the Volvo are out there 😀 I have a 2020 T6 R Design and the only issue is that it steers to the left a bit which is annoying. Been told it is a safety design to steer the car away from oncoming traffic? Other than that been really happy with it.
thats standard modern production car wheels alignment to keep you away from oncoming traffic.
Because they're german cars fanboys. Nothing is cool but BMW, Audi, Mercedes.... I love Volvo because I gave it a chance, and it never gave me a reason not to love it. My S60 D3 2012 is still going strong, but I'm upgrading to CX60 2022 as my family's grown. :)
I remember when Volvo decided to use the seat belt as part of their grille's design language. I wished they'd move on.
Can I use my iPhone wirelessly ?
To play the music via bluetooth, yes. To use CarPlay, no; wired only.
xc 60 vs Lexus RX?
You would look at the nx not the rx
A good but not perfect review.
They really need to buy engines from another manufacturer. Such a weakness to a good product.
Going fully electric so they wont. Their own engines have always been good and the ones from other manufacturers they used not so much...
Yeah, I'll take a pass with Google baked into the infotainment system. I don't need more of my info aggregated when I drive around.
You mentioned the xc90 accidentally at one point 😅
Whoops! What day is it again...
Noticed that and went to the comments to check if it was picked up 😄
Swedish? I thought they were Chinese owned and made in China?
I think the ones made in China are for the Asian market.
@@aussie8114most of the range is made in China now for Australia
They are both Chinese owned and made. Most of Australia's cars are made in China but there's only a handful that are actually supporting China's regime, Volvo being one of them since their acquisition by Geely. MG and LDV are particularly bad because they're owned by SAIC, which is actually government owned so they're not even supporting China's regime through taxes and the economy, they're doing it directly.
So yes, Chinese owned and made. The latter isn't as concerning as the former. Better a car that's not Chinese owned but made in China than one that's Chinese owned and made elsewhere.
@@ElusiveTy it really doesn't matter either way all chinese companies are owned 51% or more by the CCP even the factories contract manufacturing for western brands
in the last 5 years i've cut out buying as many chinese made goods as possible there will never be a chinese made vehicle sitting in my driveway
For European market they are still made in Europe: Belgium or Sweden. I have an XC40 and it's definitely from one of those plants, don't remember which exactly though
Name me a perfect SUV then... XC60 is perfect for families.
Volvos are the best
So much fetching.
What masochist would buy a brand new Volvo given their extensive systemic issues?
They were great (but boring) in 70s and 80s and they were cool (but less reliable) in the 90s and early 00s. Now, they look great but sweet baby jeebus are they are nightmare.
I don’t know what experience you have had but I had a V60 for 5 years with zero problems.
On 2 XC60 T8 recharge and bought a second one for obvious reasons. Have never had an issue.
This is a 2017 vehicle, no amount of face lift language will change that. They need a new proper design.
Volvo : Tweak the lights, close the grill, increase the screen size, take out the engine
Hmmm let’s call it an EX60
If not broken why fix it it’s a timeless shape
Toyota change shape every 10 years. Often not major. It helps with efficiency and tooling costs. If it works don’t change it. They have a whole new full electric range if you want. Which are market leading.
It’s a Geely from China😊
and?
The design is outdated, loghts are outdated, screen is outdated, everything is outdated, just updated price, more expensive.
