      This is in the top 3 western movies. Maybe four when you think about The Unforgiven. Shane and Tombstone, Tombstone #1. Shane was number one until Tombstone came along.

    • @RaiceGeriko
      @RaiceGeriko 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@davidanglin7177 Nah. This one beats them all. But, those movies are in my list as well for top westerns. The thing that really makes this one shine is at no point in time do you get the impression it's one of those "Made for TV" movies--which is was. You could tell in Lonesome Dove 2 it was made for TV. It was very fine in its own right, but it missed the charm of Robert Duvall, and unfortunately, John Voigt isn't Tommy Lee Jones.
      My top 5 are:
      1. Lonesome Dove
      2. Shane
      3. Unforgiven
      4. Tombstone
      5. The Searchers
      Tombstone is a little bit different than the others in the list. It's more of a Romanticized portrayal of the Wild West--a little more Mainstream, I think. It lacks a little bit of true, pure-heart the other films have. It has more style than substance, but it has so much style it doesn't matter. Plus, it still has substance which is a far sight better than most other films that rely entirely on style and yet have no substance. Regardless, the characters are so well created and original, everyone was just a pleasure to watch.
      The Searchers is nearly perfect in my opinion. The only part that brings it down is it has some of that Old Hollywood style humor to it that simply doesn't need to be there. Plus, it drags a little bit in the middle. It just kind of gets in the way with the rest of the story. John Wayne, however, was simply awesome to watch in the movie. It perfectly painted the hero who gets no reward, he has no time in the lime light. He just does what a hero does: he saves the day.
      Unforgiven is not a tear-jerker. But the way Eastwood puts a nail in the coffin for the genre is unbeatable. It's like he said, "We don't need to make anymore of these. I've said all that needs to be said."
      Just under that list would be Open Range. It's not quite as good as any of the ones on the list above--namely the story isn't as good--but it sure was good to see Robert Duvall do his thing in a Western again.

    • @davidupton9354
      @davidupton9354 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Saw just about all the movies both of those men have been in. And the westerns were some of the best. Open Range for Duvall and the later, No Country For Old Men for Jones. But no matter the movie, they were both great. Even when Jones played the asshole on the movie with Segal, can't remember the movie. Screw it, I'll have another beer and post later.😁

      The writing and direction have a great deal to do with the performance. Lonesome Dove was a fantastic vehicle for the entire cast. Tommy Lee Jones' was amazing in the program, yet watching him in Under Siege is disgusting. Erika's titties provided better acting, but I don't blame him for the performance. Writing and direction, along with editing have the final say on what we see. For all we know, there could be scenes in which he came off as much more believable, but they ended up on the cutting room floor, leaving us with the final product.

We come from a family who isn’t afraid to let our ass kicked in because it has happened and we overcame it. My dad never took shit from anyone, but was always respectful. I saw him walk into a police station once and dress down the chief for one of the officers yelling at my brother because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt while I was driving one day. It scared me to death and the young police chief. This scene always reminds me of that.

    Woodrow Call (not Tommy Lee Jones, because he is an actor playing a part) is reacting to his son being beaten. We may not all know by this point that Newt is his son, but he does. From where Call is standing he cannot possibly know what is going on other than Newt is being whipped. Everyone of you who thinks that this is some political statement or twists this into something stupid are all idiots. Great miniseries, great book. Watched it and read it multiple times. My advice to many of you is to read it and maybe read a few more books. Enlightenment is a wonderful thing. If we don't learn and grow beyond what our forefathers set down based on their times, we are doomed. We will all be dead, but we do owe it to our descendants.

    Yes, but they always cut this scene and splice it, right after Jones is dragged and then stands up. The look in his eyes is epic. Too bad there are so many bad editors out there. Check out this scene in the original it's classic.

Also when Gus ropes Woodrow 1:58, (Its me Augustus, Look at me now, Alright now)........All that should of been added to this video.

    The govt can seize any of your property at any time they want. Under legal doctrines of eminent domain, civil forfeiture, the Confiscation Acts passed during the Civil war, similar laws going back at least to medieval days. That's why our wonderful forefathers gave citizens the right to bear arms.
