    Great stuff! Really enjoyed this and Alasdair is a great addition to the mission, seems like an ideal person to be supporting you on the ground through this adventure/ordeal.
    Well produced too, your editing has definitely come on since the first mission. I wouldn't mind slightly more 'contextual' information such as what sorts of things are coming up on the day, how far you have to go, what time it is roughly at different points of the video just to get a sense of the passage of time, but maybe you've deliberately chosen to stick to your own style. would some kind of walking stick with a foot peg on it like halfway help with gettng over hedges, ditches and have something to push brambles out of the way ?
    dutch farmers used use sticks too to vault over ditches in the past.
    There were even scout units hundreds of years ago that had a spear with a wooden disk at the bottom so they could easily cross bogs etc. (verrejager)

    Now onto watching this series!
    After watching this episode I have begun to prefer your editing style, pacing and sense of humour over that of GeoWizard’s. The self-deprecating humour works so much better in my opinion than the mostly serious style of Tom’s videos (which though very entertaining, in my opinion occasionally stray into the realm of toxic masculinity…). Keep it up Marcus, I’m certainly a superfan of you and your missions and projects. Your improvement is truly inspirational!

    the countryside is very nice, appreciate the hedge bashing action scenes will be juddery but if you could put some nice steady camera work in maybe zooming in on the horizon or hills or just pleasant rest stop locations, i like to appreciate the journey it really helps us navigate the really bad jokes, but seriously it's really good and in essence sort of extremely unchartered in relation to the destination

    • @marcusthechessteacher
      @marcusthechessteacher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. Yes, I think you're right in terms of breaking up the action with some panoramas. However my camera is very average and it's unlikely I could do the beautiful countryside justice. Not to mention everything else to consider, such as glancing down at the GPS constantly, to avoid heading off-line. Alasdair managed to get some good shots, but perhaps I'll consider that more next time.

    So I'm just getting to this series and watching it through sequentially, but I have a question after this episode: Why did you bother carrying the bag? You had a support crew meeting you multiple times throughout this section. Even if that was the last planned time you saw him, why wouldn't he just take the bag and hand it off to you then? Seems pointless if you're doing it with such heavy support anyway.

    • @marcusthechessteacher
      @marcusthechessteacher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. In my opinion, part of the challenge of a straight-line mission is to carry as much of your equipment and supplies as possible. In essence, the less help you get, the more impressive the feat is. That said, I wouldn't have got as far as I did without Alasdair's help at crucial moments. Not carrying a backpack at all would greatly lessen the achievement, in my view.

    • @Nvenom8.
      @Nvenom8. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcusthechessteacher Thanks for the answer! That makes sense. There's definitely a "spirit" of the straight line mission, and I think you did a good job of adhering to it.

    • @marcusthechessteacher
      @marcusthechessteacher  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a purist. I feel that not carrying camping equipment and basic supplies would lessen the achievement, and in any case it was the safest thing to do in case I got detached from Alasdair and was unable to contact him.

    Why do you need to have a bag when you have someone following you in a car?

    • @marcusthechessteacher
      @marcusthechessteacher  ปีที่แล้ว

      My view is that a straight-line mission is purer when you have to carry most of your supplies with you. A think GeoWizard would agree. Archie Fieldhouse and his mate were very reliant on their support team and didn't even bother with backpacks. Although that's fine and they've done very well, my opinion is that their method makes it a whole lot easier, comparatively anyway, and takes away much of the challenge.

    • @DavidAStubbs
      @DavidAStubbs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcusthechessteacher Appreciate your reply Marcus. I am really enjoying going though all of your videos right now. Archie's method is very gimmicky and absolutely less pure. But I wouldn't take anything away from you if you just had a small pack or no pack with one support person meeting you a few times a day - especially when trying to get your first successful run.
