Lads, as someone who grew up on a farm (in Ireland), here's a tip; if they are friendly then get their names. If you run into one who's a bit iffy, then tell them.. 'we were just talking to 'John Smith' and were talking to him for a while'. It relaxes people a bit. Also try to get 'crossing England in a Straight Line', or some such printed on the front of the hoodies, it looks a bit more 'official', and again relaxes people. If something looks seriously dodge in advance, then it would help to knock on their door when doing the recee, though this may of course backfire. Great content all the same, loves the IoM trip as well. Best of luck with future projects.

I love Tom but this is kinda the mentality you need to do gnarlier straight lines. Geowizard is the godfather but people who are bolder and just generally give less f*ks will be way more successful as these missions get longer and more challenging

You could try to get permission from the land owners in advance but I know how stubborn and angry some folk get when you are on "their" land. It's the Earth mate, no one owns it. Try telling that to someone who paid good money for the land lol.

The final UK straight line mission yet to be completed is actually northern Ireland. With an unavoidable Lough right in the center of it, it would make for the hardest straight line mission in the UK.
If you walk from the Northernmost point of County Monaghan northwards to the Sea, it's only around 40 miles, and doesn't pass through major settlements. You'd just have to contend with the Sperrins mountains.
I really don't get that angry farmer meme, I was often exploring on farm land as a young lad, they never cared, as long as you respected animals and properties and didn;t act shady. Of course I would not crash over hedges, because I would not be on a straight line mission, I would just enter by the normal fences, where they drive their tractors. But we also often jumped over water ditches, that was part of the fun.
@@Blackadder75 Tom’s whole schtick with mad run-ending farmers is extremely silly. The only time he ever ran into serious farmer trouble was when he camped on their land, which is of course a whole nother issue. Farmers are suspicious but they’ll almost always be nice if you’re nice to them. As with many other aspects of the Geowizard thing, I think Tom just enjoys being a bit of a git.
Great stuff lads. I appreciate yours and Tom's style equally I must say, Tom is more of a storyteller and draws us deep into the mission whereas you just bash on, chat to all the farmers you can possibly find and generally don't give too much of a shit 😂

To those of you thinking bigger (US and Canada) think again! Real mountains (not like the UK's hills) would make straight line missions virtually impossible! Then you have bears, mountain lions, etc.

36km in one day is super impressive but not completely unheard of. Ally did a similar distance at the end of his Scotland mission - maybe slightly less. Urban missions regularly hit 50km+ but dunno if they should count - obviously they're not as difficult...

I would love to see such a challenge without support crew. All the food and tent in the backpack. Dont know if something like this would be even doable.
Following on the OS map, I was shouting Public Footpath at the screen at Metal Bridge. When there was a gap in the M6 and it was an A road, we would cross to get to a transport caff a little to the south on the way to climbing weekends. Utterly terrifying, worse than any dodgy axe placements later in the weekend. Meanwhile - Arwen awaits.
I hate to brag and this was traumatic. I crossed England, France and Spain in a straight line.. Took over 3 hours at least. Tragically lost my platinum run going through an urban area in England like a big plane farm. An angry plane farmer caught me and I gave farmer Ryan £16.78 and he let me go through his metal detector hedge. But he charged me £20 because my bag wouldn't fit in his other hedge. I still had gold heading out of England. Crossing the fields at 400mph I was making good pace. The only thing that might slow me down is the crying kid to my east seat and the frequent toilet user to my west. I soldiered on and somehow in the turbulent ordeal crossing through France still on Gold pace. I obtained my main source of nutrition for the entire journey. A £10 can of Dr.Pepper and salted crisps. After landing and after a puking kid from the east. I was fully prepared. Unphysically and psychotically. Whilst everyone foolishly thought they had also accomplished this tremendous challenge. They all forgot something very important. I watched as they one by one walked over the straight line boundary. Towards the checky passport machinegun guys. Next time guys don't forget. Touch the sea first! (and skip passport control) Great video guys ❤
Living in the Nordics it's so strange to see these farmers all annoyed. Here none of them would give a s*** as long as you're not standing on their crop or in their garden. I've got all kinds of folks picking berries and mushrooms in the forest I own. Don't care it's their right to do so. As long as they don't damage the property.
The first angry farmer is Len Parks! 😂😂He's always angry!! Actually a nice bloke when you get to know him. That's a public footpath past his cow building, he hates the public on his land.

The first farmer was probably not shouting at you because you were in some way trespassing. It was was probably because he confused as to why you weren't using the Public Footpath that went along the edge of the field. He wouldn't have shouted at you as you ran across felid.... because you were on a public footpath I know that Google Maps are good for driving, but they don't show footways, "open access land", and Rights of Way.

The first farmer was probably not shouting at you because you were in some way trespassing. It was was probably because he confused as to why you weren't using the Public Footpath that went along the edge of the field. He wouldn't have shouted at you as you ran across felid.... because you were on a public footpath
I know that Google Maps are good for driving, but they don't show footways, "open access land", and Rights of Way.
