I answer some questions put to me by viewers following my second attempt to cross Scotland in a straight line. For other straight-line content, check out @GeoWizard, @fieldhouseboys and @allys_adventures.
PART 3 - My second attempt to walk across Scotland in a completely straight line
มุมมอง 4.6K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
After three failed attempts to cross an entire country in a straight line (Wales 2021, Scotland 2022, Wales 2022), I gathered a new team together to help me conquer Scotland at the second time of asking. Could we succeed this time, or would another disaster be on the cards? Idea inspired by @GeoWizard. See also: @archiefieldhouse and @allys_adventures. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe.

In 1851, sixteen of the world's strongest chess players met in London for the first ever international tournament. One particular game, between Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky, would go down in history. The 'Immortal Game', as it would come to be known, is a striking example of attacking flair and audacity. It is a game that every chess player should know. Produced by Marcus Gosling on b...

Alasdair and I go for a walk in rural Surrey
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
*Apologies for the slightly average video quality in places - something to do with a rendering issue. This is part of a new series I have in mind, whereby I go on a mini-adventure to a target location with a different person each time. In this episode, I meet up with Alasdair Gorniak, my comrade from Straight-Line Mission Across Wales 2, and try to reach a pub in rural Surrey.

Hi guys, Schoolhouse Bothy is where I parked last year when I tackled the Munro Siena Braigh. Loving the video, banter, scenery etc.
Fantastic! Yeah, that bothy sure is a helpful landmark. Glad you've been enjoying the series.
The initial forest walk is just like some of the adventures I have had climbing some of hills in Dumfries and Galloway. We called it jungle warfare and we weren't having to go in a straight Line! Loving the footage and will be watching the rest.
Sounds great. Straight-lining it will be your next challenge I'm sure...!
Can’t wait!
you would of tried to carry that yourself for wales one lol
Actually I'm pretty sure the weight was very similar to Wales 1!
HAHAHAHAA this is hilarious omg 😂
I always enjoy your missions so am very pleased to see that there are a couple more on the horizon. Good luck!
Thanks! One coming up very soon now...
A modern day Reg Prescott for the TH-cam era... brilliant stuff sir, love your warts and all presentation.
Ha! Thank you very much!
This has to be parody...comedy genius 😂
Haha, I wish!
Great effort guys. I was screaming at my screen when you said you'd leave the river crossing until tomorrow, while it'd been raining a lot. Argh! But then I'm sat on my comfy sofa, fully rested and nice and warm, not fatigued. Not crossing was the right choice, well done. With a 2nd river not far along the route, it might just not have been do-able with the rain. I guess that's what makes Scotland so tough.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, in hindsight not crossing the river there and then was a big mistake. The evening was drawing in at that point though, and we decided we needed time to recuperate. Oh well, there's always next time.
There are very few straight line mission experts! In fact you must be one. Learn from the past and you'll definitely succeed sooner or later.
Thanks. I hope so!
Definitely Cordoba. I should know
Correct!
Cordoba
Correct!
@@marcusthechessteacher I just put a screen grab it gpt, AI is way smarter than me 🥶
That looks like Tunis. Although I don't know what Tunis looks like, but I imagine it looks like that.
Good guess - not a million miles away but wrong continent!
Can't help but excellent news. Looking forward to the edits
Thanks!
My sleep deprived brain thought that was an old veitnamese man on the thumbnail. Looking forward to the missions!
Haha, I resemble an old Vietnamese man in everything I do. Maybe that is the perfect straight-line mission disguise!
@archiefieldhouse You boys should definitely be teaming up! We've had plenty of Fieldhouse/Geo mashups, it's time to get another Liner into the mix.
I strongly disagree. The Fieldhouses, albeit very talented, are pretty reckless and boisterous; the opposite vibe to what I have come to really enjoy in Marcus’ videos
I would be open to it, but yes, our styles are different.
Got to be Cordoba
Correct!
Morocco?
Good guess, wrong continent. Not far away though...
Córdoba, Spain.
Correct!
The mission across... Russia 🇷🇺!!!!
Haha, now we're talking! I used to live in Russia actually...
HYYYYYPPPPEEEE!!!
Very hyped to know what this is going to be!!
Now you know 😊
That's a stupid idea mate. Try walking across the Atlantic ocean next in a straight line
I'll ask Jesus for help...
I havent watched the other episodes yet but your deviation of just over 25m may be less. You drew the deviation measuring line slightly diagonal rather than at a right angle to your actual straight line. So the real deviation may be less than 25m. Maybe if you tried measuring the deviation with a line as perpendicular to your straight line as possible you could find it was only 24.5m or something
You could be right, although I admit later that the 'spike' on the output data seemed to be just a glitch and we were still on for a Platinum Run.
Also, fuck whoever made that disparaging comment about your super cool admirable profession. Some people are just jealous
My view is - people can say what they like. If they're interacting with my video then that helps me!
As usual, exceptional video. Your honesty and openness is always a breath of fresh air. I can genuinely see that you’re getting better at the straight line missions.
Thank you - one day I'll get it done!
Regarding the backpack killing your shoulders, obviously I have no idea how much effort you put into picking gear but from my experience there can be a gigantic difference on how hard backpacks are on the body depending on their design and your specific stature and how well they mesh. There's also a ton of variety in how the straps are built and the back surface fits you as well as additional chest straps and harnesses options that can spread out the loud way more comfortably and ergonomically. A good backpack and strap setup that fits your body really well can make packing multiple times the weight of another one still feel lighter. I would totally recommend putting some effort into trying more options there if you haven't, most people seriously underestimate how big of a difference it can make especially for multi day outdoor trips.
I definitely take your point on this. This is something I need to treat more seriously. For the next attempt, I will set a strict limit on how much I carry. Any additional weight will need to be stashed or left with a support person.
I was very well entertained, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the series!
