    ORANGE TART Sugar Free Candy Recipe
    You’ll need a Silicone Candy Molds, Candy Thermometer ☺ AND need to be an ADULT to do this recipe. This recipe is EASY but Hot Candy can be dangerous so be smart.
    Water
    1 Heaped T. Orange Flavored Loose Tea
    1 Cup Xylitol Crystals
    2 t. Orange Extract (if using an Orange Oil use ½ t.)
    Pinch of Orange Food Coloring Gel(optional)
    ½ t. Citric Acid
    - Prepare silicone molds by lightly spraying with oil. (or just wet a napkin/serviette with a bit of oil and do it manually)
    .
    - Boil ½ cup water in kettle and steep Loose Tea in reusable tea basket for 5 minutes. You will only need ¼ cup of the tea for the recipe.

    - In small pot measure out Xylitol Crystals. Pour in ¼ Cup of Orange Tea. Whisk then set on medium/hot burner. Get out Candy Thermometer. Tilt pan in circular motion to grab the sweeteners crystals that are hanging out on the side of the pan. Mixing is unnecessary, just watch closely.

    - Once mixture begins to bubble a bit put in the thermometer ( I like the ones that click to the side of the pot so I don’t have to hold it ). This step will happen in less than 5 minutes. Watch the thermometer climb to 300F then remove immediately from heat…Xylitol will burn if you leave it.
    - Carefully measure in the Extract, Citric Acid and the Food Colouring. Whisk.
    - Let it sit for 2-3 minutes then use a Candy Dropper Tool tool squeeze the sugar free candy into the silicone molds.
    - Let it set up on the counter for a few hours.
    - Gently remove from molds.
    - Store in airtight container indefinitely

    Hi! does xylitol keep its cooling effect once it is cooked?

      Hi Natalie G! Thanks for asking! I've not found xylitol to have a strong cooling effect, especially when compared to erythritol. It could be my personal taste perhaps but I definitely prefer it to erythritol in many recipes :)

    Where did you get your molds? Also my kids would love rootbeer flavour, where do you get you flavours?
    I'm guessing you could get a thermometer like that off of Amazon?
    Side note, the music especially at the end made it a bit hard to hear you well. But otherwise totally enjoyed watching.

    • @4thejoyofit233
      @4thejoyofit233  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you have them a go. A regular sugar sucker becomes very hard because of the sugar properties but because xylitol has different properties/melting point there may be some crystallizing. The should always become hard enough to hold form though. Not sure why your batch would only taste like melted sugar, maybe try adding more extract/oil flavour? Perhaps lowering the amount of water too if you choose extracts over oils?

    Did exactly the same but no flavouring as I didn't have any. I'm at over 5 hrs and still not set, like syrup. Some have fully crystallised and crumbled when I picked it up 😢 I've tried every sweetener under the sun except isomalt (which is the one that deff works but I had to order it online)

    Please consider changing to Erythritol. They're 1:1 but xylitol has some serious health risks, cancer being one of them. Your kiddo is beautiful. Please stay happy and healthy. 🦋

    • @4thejoyofit233
      @4thejoyofit233  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Your body builds an immunity to xylitol (some folks may have laxitive effect when first using). Add small amounts in the beginning (like 10gram) and eventually you will not have side effects. I use erythritol often as well but the minty/cold taste it has does not work in every application. I often mix my sweeteners so that it's smaller portions of each and the backtaste or other side effects are minimalized. The fact is that sugar will kill my liver and kidneys...and other sugar free folks (like diabetics ) need other options. Xylitol is a good one, and like any new ingredient you have to learn the best use and benefit for your personal self. Happy baking!

      @@melissajoy534 no, xylitol will KILL the dog within weeks, not months or "over time". i lost my CAT as they are even more susceptible than dogs because she licked out of my ice cream bowl that was in the sink. there wasnt but 2 tablespoons of xylitol in the entire batch of ice cream i made. i took her to the vet and they asked if she had been into any poison. i had NO IDEA at that point xylitol was poisonous. i know NOW but it took less than 6 weeks for my healthy baby to die and it was horrible to watch.. i was helpless and had NO IDEA. i'll never have xylitol in my house again.. and i tell EVERYONE.. they also call it "birch sugar" and "bochasweet". it can come from birch trees OR fruit (especially pumpkins which is where the bocha comes from).
