Honestly, I'm just finding out that he doesn't speak Spanish natively. It's inspiring for someone who has been blasting his songs for years and who is trying to learn Spanish

As a fellow Tejano, now living in Califas for more years, I've always preached the fact that speaking more than your native language will always open more opportunities for you, whether it's being more valuable in your career or simply having the ability to communicate with someone else because of it. This helps us grow as an individual and as a human. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing your story, and shining the light on this topic brother. Animo Raza!
We (my siblings and I) grew up the same way too. We are pochos and pochas! As my friend Joseph Alvarado said, “We have a regional story only us Tejanos understand. Crazy that someone so famous shares this too.” Thank you Bobby for sharing your story! 🙌🏼
It makes me happy to know that more and more people from the valley are representing our Tex-Mex culture - whether it be through music, food recipes, TH-cam videos or straight up speeches like these. Viva El Tex-Mex!
Gracias, gracias gracias. You explained it to a T. I’m 71 years old Born in Brownsville, Tejas. Raised on the road in Wisconsin, Oregon, Idaho and finally the San Joaquin valley of California. As I was growing up I was called a Mexican, when I went to know Mexico I too was called a Pocho. A professor from the university of Mexico gave a lecture at my college and called those of us who are born here “Los Perdidos”. He said that is what intellectuals call us in Mexico. Well I’ve never felt lost, but I’ve always like many people felt proud to be Tejanos.
Bro this guy has one of the biggest hits in Mexican regional music from the 90s that is very common to hear on radio today not only that famous bands even cover his song.
This was very insightful. I am first generation Mexican American and a pocha. Being called Pocha never bothered me, I was proud to be both Mexican and American. My first language was spanish and I have grown up loving and mostly listening to spanish music. I love my mexican culture and am so proud of it. When Bobby said Mexican paraphernalia I was schocked that he would feel the way he did about it. Like if he was not part of it but I always saw Bobby Pulido as not just tejano but Mexican jsut like me. My children are now second generation and they mostly speak English even though I speak to them in spanish. Out of my 3 kids only one really loves Mexican music. and the other two like it. Many people want to cast judgment when "mexicans" don't speak spanish but don't know the history. This was great.I am not Tejana and don't listen to the music but I sure listened to Bobby Pulido.
I was scrolling and saw this like wtf?! 😂 I had to do a double take, honestly this Ted talk was great and is something I could see Selena doing back then, or at least showing gratitude for Bobby educating the people

My mom passed 10 years ago but would have loved this beautiful presentation. She was born in Texas and My dad from Mexico. My mom was spanked on the hand for speaking Spanish at school and wanted her kids to learn English as a first language. I understood Spanish but didn’t speak well and my cousins in Mexico on my dad’s side would laugh at me. I love my TexMex roots. ❤
Wow, story of my life growing up in San Juan TX. In California now and definitely not Mexican enough. Never felt more proud to be Tejano, thanks Bobby. Met you once at Javi’s house in Pharr, always knew you were a good dude bro.
Nice talk!! I born in Mexico and I have the opportunity to travel around Texas for work, and listen to texano music, and really hit me, I really loved and feel this type of music 🫶🏽
As a person who grew up in Northern California then moved to West Texas when I was about 12, this really hit home. I struggled to fit in, even with the pochos. Now, I have a 15 y/o daughter and she is being raised to know her Mexican culture. She takes a great deal of pride in knowing where her roots lie, as do I. Thank you, Bobby Pulido, for being not only a great artist, but for being a worthy representative for our Tejano culture.
Orgullosamente Tejana, but our state is changing and so many are offended that we identify as Tejanos.Whenever I am asked what part of Mexico I’m from, I love to smile and answer “Texas”. And also tell this side of the border, I’m a Mexican from Texas.

This story is very true for us pochos. Especially the shame of speaking Spanish in an 1970s and 1980s environment. I remember as a child in Catholic schools in the late 70s early 80s being beaten by the nun/sisters in Catholic schools for speaking Spanish. I didnt speak Spanish for a long time and my Spanish is far from perfect. But there's a lot of us out here. Not blaming anyone but it is tough. And he is absolutely right.
