BABY REM SLEEP 👁👁 Strange Rapid Eye Movements While Sleeping 😱 Normal and Healthy Newborn 1 Week Old

  • This was the first time I saw my newborn sleeping with her eyes open, and having REM rapid eye movements in her sleep. She laughs, goes cross-eyed / wall-eyed, her eyes go in opposite directions and all over the place. At first I thought, is my baby okay?Is it normal, is it bad? What is happening with my newborn! I thought she was awake and practicing her eye movements and it was very freaky so see. But it's just a part of normal deep sleep and nothing to be worried about. You might see your newborn baby breathing heavy, twitching, rapid eye movements, with smiling, giggling and laughing. It should be normal, as you can see from this baby REM sleep video and my newborn baby girl. I hope you enjoy this example of my one week old newborn baby sleeping having really creepy or strange eye movements while sleeping.

OH THANK GOD. I thought my baby might have been having a seizure. He does this and sometimes wakes up and almost "snaps out of it" I was trying to google what this could be but it kept listing seizures... and I had no idea how to explain it to his doctor. This is exactly what it looks like. I feel better.

So glad you found the video and can rest assured now! Honestly, I tried to be laid back and not worry about things with my baby but I was really confused. You’ll never know what to expect until they get older and you look back at these moments.

    • @ChildlikeWonder

My daughter was also breathing heavily in her sleep. Babies are prone to hiccups and heavy breathing while they get used to the world. It’s good practice for their growing lungs. You can always ask your doctor to confirm her breathing is fine at checkup. It’s normal to see heavy breathing during sleep 😴

I will say one thing. In REM sleep, all skeletal (voluntary) muscles are paralyzed completely. This means that no arm, leg, head movement, etc. will occur. Only eyes will dart back and forth, so do be aware of this if you are wondering whether someone is in REM sleep, or if something else is going on.
