    Since you requested feedback on how viewers enter chords in the chord track ... I am primarily a (by ear) guitar player, for identifying complex chords that I can play but don't know precisely what they are, I use my Roland GR-55 guitar synthesizer to identify the midi chords being played and enter them into the chord track. Thank you for your practical videos.

    at 14:30 you can stretch the view horizontally and you can slow the tempo to make it easier to deal with that quick chord progression .

    So glad Apple have bought back Chord Track into Logic Pro. I've been using it for years in Cubase Pro and it's great that we now have it plus session players in Logic. Love the new features in Logic Pro 11

    What I can't understand is why the Chord Track input defaults to 8 bars every time. Can one change it to default to 1 or 2 bars or some other length of the user's choosing???

    Nice overview. Thanks for not bogging this video down with a bunch of fluff and excessive details. It was just right!

    Scaler2 makes chords, and their MIDI input available easily. And is available MacOS and iOS/iPadOS

    I had a crack at making a demo today of the Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning. It certainly made it easy to get a basic backing started. I did a chord track then added a Drummer, Bass player and Piano player. After that I played acoustic guitar and added a vocal…..and it sounds fine. I’ll tweak it all a bit more but I’m impressed at how quickly you can get a track going. It is important to use the arrangement too….Intro, verse, chorus, bridge and outro etc. It makes a big difference to what the players play.

    Sick! I’ve been trying to get into using this to not only make more interesting composition but just to teach myself more about theory. Only learning rhythm/drums growing up and starting to make music on my own quickly made me realize I’m an old dog not trying to learn new tricks 😂😂 this feature helps a ton to be able to write out chords and drag the midi around!

    It's a great addition and I am enjoying it. My only difficulty thus far is when there is a break and you just want the bass or keyboard to sustain a single chord or note on the 1 of the break. Other than that, it's been awesome. I also wish that you could create a manual hit hat pattern in drummer like you can with kick and snare. Thanks for the video. Now, if Apple will add a B3 to keyboard and shuffles/blues/jazz styles.

    They never told me being clever was important in Rock ‘n’ Roll.. I regret that advise. And also that I can’t play anything. Keep it up Butch. 👍🏼

    Say what ya want, these session robots really have it down, especially with all the drum kits remixed I hardly have to do anything other than shop for kit pieces to sound right for the song, which is as fun as shopping at a great drum store with a blank check. I started writing a song this morning and it was ready to pitch to a music supervisor for sync by 5pm. He didn't need it but he said the production quality was great. Usually I send a track off to be mastered before even considering pitching it. I took a chance and it looks like I might be saving some bucks down the road.

    I really like the session players and chord track as I don’t play keyboards but there’s a problem with them for me. I prefer to build a song by arrangement first then add scratch guitar/bass/vocal tracks. If I then try to add a chord track to make use of the session players all my recorded audio tracks disappear. For me this makes these features unusable.

    Thanks for the superb content. Is there any hope that LPX will update so that some of the new features will be accessible for INTEL Core users?

      I assume you mean intel Mac users. No chance really. Apple AI stuff is restricted to M1 and later - they want to sell new hardware by enticing upgrades through software functionality.

    Scaler work nicely, but ye I wish logic could detect the chords from any input plus stem splitter.

    For guitarists use midi Guitar 3 beta. You can input guitar chords playing your guitar and the chords will be converted to midi.

    I have had Band in a Box by pg music for more than 15 years. This is a nice addition but not the huge leap I was expecting. Band in a Box still does heaps more

  • @markvanhorne3276
    @markvanhorne3276 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Why would you want region chords if they’re different from the chord track or the other session instrument? Seems like a prescription for cacophony.

    • @emaki24
      @emaki24 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I could see this being useful with slashed chords like G/C where you want the bass to continue to hold a certain pitch rather than follow the root note of the progression. In classical terms a "pedal point" to add drama and set up a cadence.

    Greetings Chris and again thanks for this!
    I followed carefully, and I second the comment on the chord track being buggy. Created chords pop up 2 bars to the right. Grouping chords does not work. I’ve already developed workarounds for these issues. More importantly, is it possible to create a chord chart, that is a lead sheet, from the chords in the chord track?
    Regards,
    William

    Actually, I heard much more modern music back in 1957. Along with using these tools, musicians should not forget to study a bit of theory. AI can only help you so far and when you get stuck, you have to have theoretical knowledge to figure things out.

      @@Hammerman48 I think it's because I tend to push the start to -1 bar. When aligning the start it seems to behave itself.

    This is the payoff for not implementing ARA. Logic can't take advantage of ARA plugins' polyphonic pitch analysis, unlike Studio One. I'm really hoping I can switch to Logic Pro as my main DAW in the near future, but for now I always keep coming back to Studio One, as there's so many things I can do there that I can't do in Logic Pro (yet). 😉

  • @Wizardofvoz2

    Way too much work. I can record all the tracks in less time than it takes to build a chord track one measure at a time. But the players are really good quality.

  • @MaximusWhyman

    The chord track is so poorly implemented compared to other DAWs. They really need to make it better.

    AI is a dead end street. I can see using session players for a demo but not for release. Real musicians please.
