Great video! Thanks! One other thing I was made aware of is that when inputing your own chords into the chord track, (once you have clicked on "create chord" the first time) instead of moving the playhead with the mouse, you can type a Dmadd9 for example and when you hit tab it will jump to the next bar and you can type in another chord.
You can enter in chords from midi faster by letting the play head keep playing and simply hit TAB before each new chord is encountered, thus no fiddly stop start editing.
One of the very best teachers - great understanding and excellent communication skills. I still watch your older vids and am still learning from them. 🙏🏼🖖🏼
Definitely the best tutorials available. Most of the others you have to fast-forward all the talking, and all the self-promoting stuff - they just drone on and on and repeatedly ask you to subscribe. But none of that with this chap: straightforward, gets right into the subject and explains everything in great detail. Respect to you, sir.
Great to see you again! I haven’t updated to LP11 yet, but this will be a very useful technique. One thing I saw that might be useful to those who don’t know the key of the MIDI they’ve opened - in the Loops Library saver, enter the first chord as the Key. For example, in the Jazz chords here, it was B Minor (Bm9). The progression was i-i-iv-III. That way, it will have the best chance of conforming to the key you’re in when you load it into an existing project. And if the first chord is not the root chord, at least you’ll be closer than random.
Top Man! I caught a couple of your earlier videos years ago and I was really impressed how you explained basic recording of a song. A Bob Dylan track as I recall. Respect mate, Jules
Hello, this is the first video I've seen from you. You're great. You explain everything so clearly, even though my English isn't particularly good. It's great! I've subscribed to your channel, of course. And 10 thumbs up!!!
Thank you!! For this amazing tutorial. Being able to share your knowledge this clearly and intelligently is more than just a skill it's an art. You are one of the few (if not the only one) on TH-cam. Keep going......I look forward to more videos .
This is great! I think the reason your Jazz Chords 2 did that thing you selected key of C when you made the session player loop (so when you dragged it back … it saw C and just left it). I have a feeling there is a shortcut to making your midi sequences into loops like that … time and someone (maybe you) will find it. This is a great tool, total game changer for Logic Pro.
Thanks man. This video really helped. I just dove into Logic 11 a week ago and love it. This just helps me get to my endgame much quicker. Thanks. I subscribed and liked. Cheers mate. Regards from Stratford, Ontario, Canada. 😎✌🎸
Excellent tutorial and a brilliant idea. I only have Logic Pro for iPad myself and I was looking for a way to save off chord progression sets, but it looks like you can only create loops from Logic Pro for Mac. Still lots of really useful tips and info here - thanks!
Chord progressions are a nice feature for amateur musicians that don’t really know what they’re doing, but it is also a great feature for professional musicians to work faster! Apparently, logic AI capabilities still need to be improved. On one hand it could produce correct voice leading which would sound nice and smooth and professional, and then on the other extreme you could reduce the correct voice leading to make it sound more amateurish which the kids will like.
One hint to speed up chord recording. Setup midi region and internal midi in as described. Move playhead to region start - Ctrl-U to create locators and cycle, spacebar 2x. Create new chord in chord global track, activate midi in and press play. Now, when chord was recognized press stop. Do not press Enter! Use TAB key instead. New chord will be created at next bar. Press play again. If midi chase is off, new chord will be recorded exactly at the beginning of next bar. In short: create first chord, activate midi - play, stop, tab - play, stop, tab … With control surface you can use jog wheel and with keyboard shortcut for Create Chord (new Key Command Assignment) you can create new chord at any moment! You can even play chords to replace midi track chords on the fly!
Great video! Any chance you are going to make some of the progressions you saved available as a pack? Another TH-camr I know talked about charting the top 50 songs of all times, but it doesn’t seem he followed through. 😊
Thanks a lot. Finally someone with a very practical tip and explaining it the way it should be. Do I see an Akai sampler there in the background? Can you also make a video about the session player editor. Nobody did a deep dive in it. Thanks.
You can change type of session player by clicking big round icon on the left of session player edit screen. It is fast solution for problem of wrong session player.
Can you do chord entry using RNA names - eg. select Key: Then I IV V ii V I etc., or do users have to know how to do RNA with named chords? Also, with RNA inversions, would put notes down into the bass. May not be a feature in Logic, but would be good to know. Users may still have to figure out their own RNA.
Thanx for your Great Video. Is there a way to import a complete Chord prgression from I Real Pro or Band in a Box or whatever. I mean if I have a song ready to import all the chords at once i don't want to stop after each chord. What kind of Format these chords are written ? Do you know ? Have a good day !!
Amazing video. Thanks. If you have scaler 2, you can do the same thing in a much easier way. There is a video on TH-cam which explains the process: scaler 2 and chord track.
The Bmaj7(9) - Bmin7 - Emin7 - Dmaj7(9) is a non-diatonic progression. Bmin7(9) is B, D#, F#, A ,C (it would be diatonic if it had a b5 ie F not F# and was minor) - it is not a stable progression; the 9 just adds colour / tension
Do you know if the chord feature in Logic Pro can analyze a complete MIDI piano song (or just the bass line midi or audio) and automatically create a chord progression based on the notes played? Or do I need to manually enter the chords for each section? Because I play complex chords but can't read so if it could notate and bring it in automatically, then build the auto accompaniment based on that? So for instance so could I use my piano midi part to have a session player bass line created or guitar part to add to the rest of the audio/midi drums, epaino, strings, vocals, etc of a completed song. Thx
Is there a way to export the chord track as a text or PDF file to share it with a friend? I am working on a very long piece of music (about 200 bars). I do not want to write down all these chords one by one per hand. Thank you in advance.
When manually creating a chord, the first one is good, then I move the play head one measure forward, when I create second chord it pops up a measure after the playhead. Snap is set to Beat. Very frustrating. Edit: This is apparently caused by having pre-measures in the Project (which I always have at least one). Removing pre-measures fixes it. I have reported it as a bug.
I think this is not AI enough when your only option is to start and stop for every chord , it should be drag and drop once, to fully recognise the entire midi file and go !
Frankly, after so much software and updates and upgrades.. I decided to roll back my operating system and get back to basics.. All these new tools just make you lazy and takes the fun out of making music.. everyone seems in such hurry to make a track...
It seems kind of ridiculous that you would waste five minutes to play in four single chords from a midi file one at a time. Logic should make this so that I can input an entire four minute piece, and then logic could analyse the chords.
@@dancetech Are two different things, what @daveking-sandbox9263 is asking for, is that should be "LOGIC" that with all this grandeur exhibited of AI , how could it be that the daw is not able to recognize the chords and place them in the chord channel. I think they will do that in a short while.
Their "chord editing" interface is one of the worst in all similar programs (Cubase's chord track, Scaler, EzKeys, and others). Click, click, click, reopen windows all the time to write a chord progression. And the chord name you can't fucking click, you need to write it switching from the mouse to the keyboard. Argggg! Hopefully they improve it in the next version.
I have several apps and plug'ins that can create very accurate midi data from a midi file or audio. Oh well, I have a lot more hearvier issues to deal with.
Yeah, I noticed that Drummer, not Session Player bug, muselff. exactly as you showit. Apple? Quick bug fix? Oh BTW it might have been nice if you could have added your own library of progressions to the menu list. But not too onerous to work round.
Great video! Thanks! What an amazing person to actually sit and work all of this out…Thanks for adding the methods of how to achieve these editable chord progs ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now Apple just needs to automate that MIDI chord recognition and create a chord pattern in the Global. This is a great tutorial.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial.
Thank you very much, one of the rare channels in english without hesitating.
Srictly G-C-A-F in key of G is 1-4-2-b7, which is why you get a Bb in key of C (in your original key of G 7 is F#)
Great to see you again! I haven’t updated to LP11 yet, but this will be a very useful technique.

Really clear and just the right amount of detail. Please do more Logic tutes. Please. Did I say please?
Great to see you back!!! And with such a great subject!!!
While creating chords from midi file in chordtrack you can use Tab key to move to next bar easily rather than stopping and manually moving to next bar
Like others have said, great to have you back.
This is one of the best instructional videos I’ve watched; absolutely brilliant! Thank you!

Great learning from you, thanks much foryour inciteful training.
Fantastic tutorial. You are a legend.
The chords from midi blew my mind. Great video.
WOW, that's amazing - thank you for sharing!
Gracias, salvaste mi mente que estaba enloqueciendo en el laberinto de los acordes 🎉
Thanks, my mind was going crazy in the chord maze

What a fantastic project to get stuck into, man you have just given me a new fresh purpose to do with my musical adventure. Buy this man a 🍺
A much faster way to input chords from a midi file is playing the midi region without stoping is by using the tab key before every chord
Love your videos Dude! Thank you!
Love the tutorial. Thanks

"Can you also make a video about the session player editor" - will do, soon come with that 👍
cool feature!
Yes, I'm impressed. Yes, I'm entertained. Is that not why you are here? Yes, that is why I am here...
Great video. Have you since built a library of chord progressions? If so, I’d be happy to buy the file. 😊
Great video, Love it. Thank you.
This tutorial is amazing your golden
If I get the funding I'm hoping for I'm gonna start using Logic at College this year
Marvelous❤ Thanks🌞

Great video! You should create a bunch and sell a loop pack. Would be especially good if you had the numbers for each one. 😊
Awesome - like your reggae tutorials... thanks
Thank for a good video lesson👍

Great job

It can't analyse a whole midi file, but if you can play/program a chord progression you can use this method to copy it into the chord track.
Very good but so slow you need 4 or 5 minutes max to explain all that but thanks very useful
Hi, thks Wonderfull video… 2 things.. in the scale of G the seventh grade Is F# dim… 2 I suggest to analyze the tonality on scroll menu… ;)

… when Michael Caine teaches us about chord progression… thanks Mike

Wouldn’t it be great if it could read audio files as well as midi files?
Is this feature available on intel computers too? Does Logic play all the complex chords? Thanks
