As someone who’s had to deal with this a lot in my career it’s so not fair! And the refs don’t get penalized for there mistakes but as a player if you do or say something to them about there mistake you get fined or defaulted.
In my opinion, chair umpires shouldn't overrule calls made by line judges, especially if players can challenge. The line judge's only job is to be watching where the ball lands so why would a chair umpire think they got a better look than they?
You know, for a default, you should have to do a lot more than swear at someone to deserve it. That’s just not fair. Tennis players should be able to express their emotions on court and at least have it treated like any other code violation (warning, point, game, then default). You hit someone intentionally, then that’s a different story, but swear words?
I’ve had this debate for years…first we have to understand the sport…it was called a gentleman’s sport…that meant no swearing, no physical contact, no arguing. If the rules so no swearing and you swear…you should be penalized. I couldn’t hear what the player said but if the umpire hears it then it’s a conduct violation. Now again I’ve said this…if you think it’s ok to swear and there should be no repercussions because they are all adults…it’s a slippery slope. What’s next? Will the players be allowed to call each other or the umpires derogatory names? Will the players be allowed to physically attach another player? Or umpire? Or lines people? Or spectators? The line is moving further and further.
@jobuck879 I mean, I really don’t know why you would respond with this😂 For you this may be a “debate” open for discussion, but for me it isn’t. I have said my thoughts and they are as written. I have been a tennis player all my life, and while not a pro, I have played many tournaments on a much lesser level in college and as a regular adult and so I know what it’s like to exist as a player and understand the in’s and out’s of a version (emphasis on the “version” part, again, I’m not a pro, but I know a bit as an amateur who travels around) of the tour. This is what I think about this rule, and all due respect, no one will change my mind, sorry🤷🏻♂️
@ And as a person who played high school and sone college I understood that the rule was if you swear there’s a good chance you’d get a code violation or even default your match. It’s just that simple. Why do people who watch tennis seem to think there’s an excuse for that behavior? It’s not. When you break the, you suffer the consequences. Period. Full stop. Your opinion doesn’t override the facts that it’s the rules of the game. Don’t like it…either don’t watch tennis or if you’re a player choose another sport to play.
That umpire in the doubles match is fixing so hard
Don't play in Saint Brieuc, got it
5:00 Match fixing for Sure. Umpire Made some extra Money
Should be sacked.
Dun think it was match fixing because technically the match did not finish. But this empire is a typical narcissist

If an umpire isn't 100% certain of the linesperson making a mistake, they should keep their mouth shut.

I mean, show me a single clip where the supervisor actually made any difference at all
Previewed, but not shown or forgotten: Felix v. Jack, or Fritz v. Nakashima, both in the same horrible week for Greg Allensworth.
The second one is a really bad overule. From the chair it's nearly impossible to see the near sideline particularly when it's that close to the net.
1:49 French woman umpire on a Moutet match.

They disqualified the doubles guy, what should we do with kyrgios, medvedev, rublev, paire, gaston, moutet etc. etc. Ban 4 lifetime??

O M G 😮
Umpires are mostly do terrible jobs.
A lot of them are very racist and bias towards certain players!!
How about when boring white guys are failed by the umpires...is it racism too or it just doesnt make any sense to you?
Yeah sure. A split second line call they have time to think about their prejudices.
Errani is Karen
Draper was just a poor sport in that one. Umpire was wrong yes but shouldn’t have stood
Jack Draper wasn’t in the video..?
