At 5 minutes 30 you said that the bmw and multistrada have the edge over the sas on power, your way off, look at the torque figure's. High bhp is not important if you have a low torque just like the bmw and multi.
SMT is super fun, easy to drive, definitely bike for every day. But if you go on long trips very often then chose SAS. I test ride both, and that is my conclusion. BTW, I drive 1290 SAR.
Thank you for this. As a long time superbike rider i thought that type was the only one for me. Then i bought a hypermotard 950 and it completely changed my mind. I want to travel longer distances but still have that hypermotard feeling. After thinking and searching I settled on the 890 smt which i just purchased.
@@BraapBanana_ It took me about 1000 miles to bond with the bike. Two big factors leading to the bond- understanding (and accepting) the rev range and getting used to the weight distribution. It's good to great at everything. The throttle response on sport setting is wicked. Buffeting from windscreen impacts noise inside helmet more than anything else. You'll need earplugs above 65 mph. J. Juan brakes are actually good (I'm a full brembo setup snob). 5'9, 30" inseam and height is not a problem. Handlebar position feels a little off- still trying to figure this out. TFT is very clear and menu easy to understand. Very agile. Motor is pretty strong- great torque throughout gears but hit redline quick in 1, 2, 3 and it just seems to be out of breath after 8000 rpm. Thanks for following up.
@@sorecawk thanks for the review! Are you looking into upgrading the windshield? I saw Givi had something for the ADV but it also works for the SMT when buying an extra bracket
@@BraapBanana_ You're welcome. Definitely screen upgrade for highway runs but I'd like to find something i can attach and remove quickly as I really like the look of the short screen. I didn't know givi made aftermarket for the smt- thanks for that I'll check it out. Speaking of aftermarket, that's one downfall as there's not much yet. I think what works for the 890 adventure will be compatible (like you mention) with a number of things. I checked in with Rottweiler for performance upgrades and they said they've yet to do R&D.
I think the 890 Adventure (non R) fits in the sport touring KTM lineup…I can attest as I own a 22 and have no issues anywhere in a sport touring pack. Limiting factor is top speed but it resembles the 890smt obviously. The larger tank of the 890 Adventure adds and doesn’t effect handling in my opinion. Thanks Brothers.
I think KTM is making a huge disservice to the 1290 SAS by equipping it from the factory with sub-standard budget tires, that beast deserves the best of the best.
Being “detuned” is a misconception…the Adventure models move peak torque and make a better engine in my opinion…I would argue the adventure tune would be better in the Duke…peak HP is just a number on paper…a useable torque curve is more usable for everyday riding for moderate to veteran riders. Just some dude thats rode MCs for half a century.
@@kyleg8928can only agree with that! Trust me I have driven the 990 and bought the SMT ist just more fun! More torque coming out of corners is just such a nice feeling! And you can’t feel the different in HP! The SMT feels even faster than the 990 cause it the punch in low revs!
KTM states 194 kg without fuel (not dry weight) 15.8 liter tank = 15.8*0.75 = 11.85 kg So 205.8 kg so not very much off, if the the claimed weight from KTM is correct
I purchased a 2022 SAS and have not regretted the decision at all. The SMT is an ugly looking thing. Thanks for the English. I am American and only known one language.
Guys I appreciate the time you put into dubbing these in English for me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Can’t beat adventure bike versatility. Now an RC990 would be fun😎

Let us know what you think when you ride it for a while.
And how are you liking it currently?

I really don't understand how to compare the tools? In my opinion, it is more correct to compare the SMT to the GT. Seems much more appropriate to me.
What about Super Duke GT; This is also a tourer
*Super Duke GT enters chat: 👋🏻🏁
I think the 1290 for me fantastic all round bike
Well done KTM
KTM make the SMT with the 990R (NOT DETUNED) and put the better brakes on it!! It will sell like hotcakes!!

Ktm we want a 1390 SMT ❤😊
That is already on the way officially in late 2024
Next Bike 1290 SAS 🧡 MY 890 SMT
The smt weight is 196kg, plus 19ltrs of fuel, at 1kg per liter doesn't equate to 205kg total, your 10kg short.
KTM states 194 kg without fuel (not dry weight)
15.8 liter tank = 15.8*0.75 = 11.85 kg
So 205.8 kg so not very much off, if the the claimed weight from KTM is correct
Petrol less than 1kg per litre.

1290 all the way
Dont talk, just driveeeeeeeeeeeeee
1290 sera plus confortable à 2
SMT.......Hummmm ❤❤❤
