    Hi Matt, many thanks for your nice and honest review! 😃
    It’s a great bike and I already own one.🙂 I couldn‘t await your review and ordered mine blind 1 week before the first tests appeared,. Now owning it I‘m fully satisfied and to all my expectations, it’s 120% the right bike for me who yet owned a Duke 890 R(now sold) and a R1200GS. This one does the perfect mix if you don‘t go offroad as I and probably 99% of all GS-riders do. The SMT is so light and nimble but also comfortable I don‘t miss my Duke at all and already have a GS-sale coming to my mind. Only for really long travel I may see an advantage with the GS but for me that‘s quite seldom.
    Kind regards from the Rhine-Area in Germany!
    Eric

    My favourite KTM now. The low-down shove of the adventure with 17'' inch wheels. The first bike of this type was the original Ducati Multistrada 1000, closely followed by the brilliant Buell Ulysses.

    • @AyoHues
      @AyoHues ปีที่แล้ว

      Yamaha TDM 850 predated it by more than 10 years. Arguably the FZS 1000 (the half faired version) was also an earlier ‘tall rounder’ and there were a bunch of other Adventure style but road biased dual sport bikes like the Pegaso 650, Capo Nord 1000, Honda Trans Alp etc. I had a Mk1 Multistrada. Hugely unpopular and misunderstood bike at the time. Brilliant bike, absolutely loved it.🥹

    • @user-sw2lv3zp6o
      @user-sw2lv3zp6o ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AyoHues I liked the original Multisrada, too. You've probably guessed that I had a Ulysses. The TRM850: I had forgotten about it. Did it have long-travel suspension? I don't think the othjers you mention are in the same category.

    I did the Gorges de la Nesque about a year ago, I live not far from it in St Remy de Provence. I found it too tight , too many cars and ….. goats wandering across the road , people pulling up to check out the view. It is amazingly beautiful and the drop of the side had me clinging to the inside wall. I was on my MT09 2021 which was great but frustrating. There is another road the other side …away from the tourists , which may actually be better for scratching. Anyway, great review as always.

    Thanks matt i always look forward to your unpretentious no bullshit reviews .
    I’m buggered if i can see where the t fits into this acronym , its a bit like ordering a white espresso ,the front mud guard although i agree looks good would make touring in the rain pretty annoying .
    As for the seat being comfortable it begs the question why do ktm put planks on all their other bikes if they can make a comfortable seat .
    Touring usually means a bit of high speed autoroute travel so i’ve got my doubts how well this bike performs under those conditions , those roads they took you on seem to be perfect for the 890 r , looking forward to your next instalment and thanks again for the usual entertaining informative reviews

    Great vid once again! But such a teaser with a part 2! I’m looking forward to your take on 2 up riding, the windscreen, since this is supposed to be a tourer somewhat. Also, is it really worth the price, or just go for a Duke with a windscreen and some bags, or the 890 adventure base model?!?!?!?!?

    Sorry, but short forms /abbreviations which is mostly every set of letters you use as examples of acronyms, are not acronyms they are just short forms, like KTM, DNA, WTF etc.. An acronym, will create a pronounceable but not necessarily an actual word when reduced from the long name/term, EG, fubar, snafu, asap, laser. LSD, USA etc. are not acronyms, they are short forms wherein the first letter of every word in the longform is listed in order. When KTM (short form) starts employing colours other than their usual Halloween décor, is when I might take a long serious look. TAFN. :-)

    Although I can't say I like the bike, I am 100% with KTM on this one.
    First of all, spot-tourers is a highly underestimated category: they need to be great bikes handle-wise, since they must be both mile-eaters and able to "play" when you get to the twisty mountain roads. And do some commuting too.
    Secondly, unless you do track days or a lot of autobahn, anything more than 100-110 hp is more than enough. So, why not having a torqey, ejoyable engine if you can?

    • @diyeveryday67
      @diyeveryday67 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yumyumbaboon The only bike I can compare to is R1250RS I toon on a brief test ride. The 270 degree crank in the F900 makes a great sound when hard on the throttle with or without slip-on. F900 super easy to tip into corners and Brembo’s haul the bike down from 90+mph in a heartbeat.
      It could use a few more ponies vs others in the segment… but still a blast to ride.

    Hey hey
    Funny I had one as a loan bike while my 2023 890 Adv R was in for some tlc…
    This is a very lekker road based variant of the 890 platform… IMO it definitely leaning towards the “sport touring” side of the spectrum when compared to my Ducati Hypermotard
    The front is definitely too far stretched out to be real hard motard…
    But hey, that my thinking
    It is a very very nice ride… daily commute is a joy and the mountain twisties are it’s happy place
    The little fairing was good at 140km with open visor and sunglasses.. which I enjoy
    And the brakes are super
    100% agreed the seat is a winner
    Happy travels
    Gonna look for your next review
