My dad ran into a doped up guy in the woods while camping. The guy threatened my dad with a knife and my dad pulled out his .38 revolver. The man dropped his knife and walked away. Without a gun, my dad may not be alive and I might never have been born. Thank god for the second amendment.

Not so sure. Judicial system is screwed up. If shots are fired, it becomes a deadly physical force encounter and has to go to court (and every person who hears the gunfire will flood the dispatcher’s office with 911 calls). Then you face 12 people who might have voted for Hillary or Obama, and were not smart enough to get out of jury duty. You also possibly face an activist judge who thinks no one should have guns (but probably carries one himself).
Then you face a possible civil suit from his family, who insists he was a “good boy who always go by the church and was a model citizen in the community, and there was no reason for him to die.”
If no shots are fired, and no one was hurt, the less LEO and your employer know, the better, and what’s the bad guy going to say to the cops?

I just subscribed to your channel. I have been a law enforcement officer for 20 years now. After watching this video, the two things that came to my mind was {1} Hey, fuck it, you lived - good for you. {2} The common characteristic I have always noticed in every event that I have been involved in where deadly force was/could be used is this.. you can have the best training, the best tools, a solid legal standing - you can NEVER properly compensate for L U C K. I am thankful you didn't shoot him.. the aftermath of stress and anxiety of the event would have forever changed your soul even though you would have been TOTALLY justified. You lived, you flexed your nature right to defended yourself, you are still here to teach others the value of taking a stand, and you can still raise your kids. Well done!

I love a story where a gun defends a life without a single shot fired!
I had a carjacker follow me and my two young children out of the grocery store. Once he got to my vehicle and was in my comfort zone, he quickly had a second thought when he heard me click off the safety on my weapon.
And all I know is that my children will never know what could have been.

Exactly, bad guys want to live too. The thing about these encounters is that you can simulate situations and get as close to combat which will train you as much as possible for when that time comes. If you have training, proper mind set, and can reasonably control your flight or fight adrenaline you can make it a win, win situation. Cause bad guys dont want lead in their ass neither. They want an easy take. When you pull out faster and shoot faster than them you win they loose, but you must always remember your backstop, and your a responsible gun owner ,so if their are innocent people in the back ,then you must put that into the equation of shoot/ or not

I was not so lucky on Easter Sunday of 96 when I had someone threatening my children and myself with a pistol. I went and tried to get the person to leave my yard and rather than extricate themselves and not become another statistic, they chose to raise their pistol to the level between my chest and face. At which point they were the recipient of one to the solar plexus from my hip with a rifle and then the second one was to the head. Luckily they were air lifted and survived. I spent 17 hours in jail and had my property returned to me by the lead officer (who was, as I found out later, the first cousin of the injured party). Some time later I saw this person again when they walked into a house I was at with their new child, and after looking directly at me, left their daughter to be watched by my friend knowing that I was going to be there. I know it's a heck of a story but it's the honest truth. There are other details that are left out since I didn't want to write a book.

100% accurate that you will not hear about how a gun saved someone's life. The news RARELY reports someone defending themselves with a gun.

    • @meteoricthrone
      @meteoricthrone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

zootedsuit Because the news is no longer concerned with providing unbiased reporting. They will only report on what generates views/clicks/purchases in order to generate money, and right now that is gun violence and racial tension.

    • @kikook222
      @kikook222 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

zootedsuit You don't hear about it because it rarely happens. Most people never need to use their gun to protect themselves and when most people actually use their gun they are committing a crime. The only correlation to 'guns save lives' is with police officers. Not random citizens having guns because the research on the subject points to most citizens being irresponsible with their concealed guns.
Most people do not fall in line with this story because they're too emotional to act rationally. If you have a gun on your person, the chances of you shooting someone goes up exponentially during a simple argument.

You're a great example of a guy who has a gun for the right reasons. You're not quick to shoot, but you're ready to pull. You don't care that he got away, you care that you got away. That is something I can respect, and I know this video is old but it still has some very valid points. I've never had to defend myself with a firearm, and I might freeze up if I had to, I don't know. What I do know is everyone should give themselves the opportunity to survive a situation like that.

Job well done sir. I was robbed at gun point in my home. I did have my pistol on my person and was about to head out, as soon as I opened the door I froze due to a rifle and pistol in my face. I gave up the cash, a couple video games and my playstation. So many people tell me what they would have done and how they would have turned into john rambo. Sometimes the choices we don't make are just as important as the ones we do. My gun did not save my life that night but quick non combative thinking did. Plus I learned from it. I used to be the guy who would say, “if that was me, I’d have done blah, blah”. But in 1981 that changed. While finishing up a day running a health club/gym about 11:30 PM, an older (60ish) short guy in a ratty suit walked in, tossed a money bag on the counter and said “I’m here for all your money”. Well prior to this, I would have said “blah, blah, bah” bullshit. What I actually did was freeze, I did absolutely nothing but stare at him kind of numb and stupid looking I’m sure. He had no weapon and I could easily have defeated him physically, but I simply locked up. After a few seconds, he laughed and said he was there to empty the vending machines. Then as he picked the bag up, he paused and asked if I was alright because I was probably still trying to understand the situation I was really in. He finished his job and I closed up but never forgot it. Once I became a CCH holder, I share this story anytime an instructor asks a class what they would do in certain situations. Most will inevitably shout out their “blah, blah, blah” stories and after they’re done, he has me share my story. Great advice and outcome, thank you so much for sharing as it may saves lives.

I've been carrying for about 5 years now and this past Tuesday night was the first time I've ever had to draw my firearm in self defense. Two guys barged into my hotel room to rob me and do who knows what else, but the fact that I had a firearm and was able to deploy it made them stop dead in their tracks. I was able to convince them to leave and I am so glad I didn't have to shoot them, but I knew that if they had kept moving forward, or made any sudden moves, that I was prepared to shoot them.
I knew that I was willing to shoot, but at the same time, I really didn't want to have to shoot these two guys. Thanks for your story, I keep thinking of things that I could have or should have done differently, but I'm glad to know what my reactions were in that situation. Until you've been in that type of situation, nobody really knows how they'll react, and I've often wondered if I'd be able to defend myself. Now, I know.

I thank you for your story and can relate myself. I have carried and trained for years. I had a situation where a man pulled a knife on me after asking me for money in a mall parking lot. Nobody knows what they will or can do when that sudden rush of adrenaline hits you. I broke and ran away before he attacked, and actually forgot for that moment that I even had my carry gun on me. For some time it actually bothered me that my "flight" instinct overtook my "fight" instinct. I came to appreciate that I escaped without having to shoot or kill. My lesson would be this: what you "would" do and what you WILL do are two separate things.

This is one of the better responses. I have been carrying for the better part of 20 years, I have had three incidents over the years that warranted me drawing my pistol. I only did once and that saved a woman from a very abusive man, but I had time to think in that instance. The other two I was robbed in my home and robbed on the street. I simply did not have time to react how I thought I would and what I did do (compliance) might have saved my life. These things normally don't give you the time to react like you want to, they give you time to only react like you have to.

+The Triggerati One of my pastors disagrees with you. When he was younger, he was a criminal. He actually got shot about four times by a police officer during a burglary. He survived being shot, went to prison, was ministered to while in prison and became a Christian. He entered a school of ministry/leadership and after serving some years in prison, he got out and then went back to the prison...as a minister to the prisoners. For a while there, he headed up my church's prison ministry...can't remember if he still does or not...and now he also runs a ministry for the homeless. His name is Jed Chappell.

30 years ago I was driving south on I-75 in a brand new pick up truck with my motorcycle in the back. Somewhere in Tennessee 2 meth heads in a rusted pinto drove up and tapped my bumper at 65 mph. I'm like WTF? I sped up to 70 and they did it again! I then pulled my Colt Agent .38 Special matt black snub nose from beneath my seat and showed it to them. They couldn't hit the brakes quick enough and almost wrecked getting off the freeway.

    I can't believe I haven't seen this video yet.
I had to bring out my glock time...
During the aftermath of super storm sandy, there was no cell service, telephone service, or electricity.
I lived at the shore at the time, and there was widespread looting. People were rowing boats to the beach houses across the bay to loot.
After about four days without electricity, people started to lose it. And one night someone went into my backyard to take my generator. Because I made preparations and these guys didn't. They decided to take what they needed.
I couldn't call for help even if I wanted to, there was no police service. You were your own protection.
Well I was also prepared for looters. After my pitbull alerted me of the situation. My dog and my Glock22 went out to catch the bad guys. I didn't want to kill someone for a generator. But I lived in an all electric house, and having small children, I couldn't just let someone steal my family's heat source.
Well I'm thankful they ran for their lives. And I'm thankful, even in NJ we can protect our families, and property.
It took a natural disaster for me to really realize the importance of gun ownership. But I know it won't last if we're not willing to stand for our rights.
I'm glad your situation worked out, as mine did. But again, no record of it. I never even called the cops, because I couldn't.

Your point that guns saving peoples lives by just showing the presence of it and is a statistic that is never recorded is well taken. I had a lady friend that was going to drive across country by herself. I told her to take one of my guns with her for her own safety. After a lot of coxing she finally agreed. A day later I get this call from my friend telling me how that gun quite possibly saved her life. She stopped for the night at a hotel and was getting her luggage out of her car, turned around an found herself surrounded by a gang of 5 guys. As she was telling the story over the phone you could tell she was still shaking and crying but she said John you would have been so proud of me because I did exactly what you taught me. I yanked the gun out of my purse and holster popped the safety off and told the 5 guys WHO WANTS TO DIE FIRST!! in the meanest voice I could muster. Not a single guy took her up on her offer and backed away. A statistical event that will never be recorded but saved her from who knows what. I'm sure many many stories like this can be told. I have two more myself that I could tell about just the presents of a gun stopped something bad from happening.

    • @meteoricthrone
      @meteoricthrone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

littlejpl I wish that the major news companies would look at those stats as well. Right now, they go for the crimes because they generate views and that leads to revenue, and leaves the public thinking that anyone with a firearm is dangerous. If more people were educated about the whole picture, things would be better for everyone. Less arguments, less attempts at making restrictions for a person to acquire a gun legally.

This is a great story. You're a very smart guy. I hope more smart people can hear it. There are so many lessons here! First, how responsibly carrying a weapon saved a life, how carrying that weapon was the factor that averted a violent situation. Your honesty in showing how a real life situation can affect anyone's sensible reactions, how no one is immune to this. You show how better training would likely improve those reactions, Of course, the irony that the positive statistics go unrecorded and unpublicized, excellent point. Sharing a story like that can help others. We should learn from the experience of others with experience, in this case, YOU! There are more lessons here as well. Such as how two dining chairs can emulate the front seat of a Nissan. Seriously, this is very powerful, and you have just recorded a positive story of gun ownership for everyone to see, and needs to see, here on You tube. Thank you!

One of my cousin's thought it would be a funny joke pulling my 20. Shotgun on me in my sleep. I heard a chuckle as my shotgun was being cocked, and someone saying, " Hey dude, he is gonna be sooo freaked out" I jumped up, grabbed the barrel and pointed it up, and as quick as possible disarmed my cousin. This shows people think of guns as toys, and I had multiple of my own well hidden guns drawn on me as a prank. One of them was loaded. Most of my family think of guns as toys, it disappoints me to realize people are so irresponsible, even the people I am closest to.

I had one incident where I stopped a crime with a firearm.
I live in extremely rural upstate NY. I have two neighbors. One is a trooper and one is a woman I went to school with. The trooper took her family on vacation for the week. During that week, the abusive ex of the woman I went to school decided to pay a visit. He knew that the trooper wasn't home.
I heard "CALL 911" being screamed.
I told my fiancee to call 911 and immediately left the house with my rifle. I saw him on the front yard threatening her. She was on the ground crying, covering her kids. I know that it's not popular, but I leave my rifle loaded, with the first round a blank. I figure that if a blank being fired doesn't scare somebody, I'm justified (at least in my own head) for the use of lethal force.
I racked the bolt, fired the blank into the air, re-racked the bolt, pointed it at him, and told him "She told you to leave". He left. Police showed up 10 minutes later.
It's not a story meant to glorify the use of guns. It's not a story I use to teach people about gun safety. Hell, there's plenty I could have done better.
But the woman I helped cried and thanked me to no end. She insists that I saved her and her kids from being beaten again.

That way in any future encounters, she could handle things herself. Seems to me you have a perfect opportunity to spread the word about the confidence that is inspired just by the simple presence of the means of one's own defence.

Every so often I have dreams that are similar. They all are similar, in that someone is attacking me or my family, usually in a parking lot, and I am trying to draw my weapon, but my muscles or the gun just won't work. Sometimes my arms or fingers are like jelly, other time the gun won't work. Of course I always wake up panicked and pissed off that nothing would work.

These dreams are interesting. I used to have the same dreams where my gun wouldn't work. But I kept reloading and practicing and shooting and a strange thing happened. As my confidence level went up from practicing...my dreams changed from where my gun wouldn't work, to where it worked fine.
Coincidence? Maybe not. Food for thought.

A similar incident happened to a friend of mine about 10yrs ago when he and his girlfriend stopped at a convenience store one night and a car pulled up behind them blocking their escape, two carjackers got in their car. They pistol whipped him and forced them to drive off followed by 2 guys in the other car.
They drove them to a remote location and pulled the girlfriend out of the car. One of the carjackers was left with my friend and when he turned for a second my friend pulled a pistol from between the two front seats and shot (single shot .40 cal in the chest) and killed the armed carjacker as he stood outside the car door.
When the others heard the shots they came running and the girlfriend was able to escape. My friend was able to run away and made it to another nearby convenience store where he was able to call 911. My friend and his girlfriend made it out unharmed but one carjacker not so much. As far as the other carjackers, I think 2 were later arrested and one was murdered in a drug related incident.

When I realized it I pulled into a carpool parking lot and turned putting my car between us. He walked towards me with a tire iron, and after warning him I had to draw my weapon. He called me many names and questioned my manhood for having to use a gun, but he ultimately left. After he was out of sight I puked, and puked. I carry for that "what if", I never want to actually have to use it. You are right with the reactions from people that have experience and those that don't. Anybody against guns and sometimes even knives just wants to pick apart everything like I did something wrong so I end up explaining more to them than I even had to with the police. Once they get the full picture they'll never admit that they were trying to pick apart the situation to make me look bad either, they just stfu. Mike Tyson said "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." He's absolutely right and I don't fault you at all for messing up on the trigger - because I've been there a couple times. No real life situation goes quite as you imagined it would when you were practicing. My own tally sheet (all while minding my own business and doing nothing wrong) has me down for making it through 1 public mugging, 1 public car jacking, and one attempted murder in my own front yard in a case of mistaken ID. I drew once and started to draw twice, but no shots were fired. People always act like I'm crazy for carrying a gun, but until they've been in the situations I've been in and seen people get murdered, their uninformed opinions mean absolutely nothing to me.

Zero judgment here. You won twice, and that's all that matters. The first win was saving your life. The second win was doing so without killing someone.
At tactical response fighting pistol, they make a very salient point: If you kill the bad guy, but spend the next year drunk and high before eating your own gun, you lost that gunfight...it just took a while to die.
Having finally done it, I can't recommend *reputable* force on force training enough. It's the closest you can get. The first thing you really learn is that adrenaline is a hell of a drug...and not often in a good way. Check out Aaron Cowan and Sage Dynamics. He's one of the best.

I had a similar story in which I was in my vehicle (01 BMW E46 ) in front of my home. A tan car with three individuals in it pass me then circle the block and park behind my car. Two of the individuals got out of the car. One went to the rear of my vehicle and the other went to the driver side door window. As soon as they pulled up behind me and jumped out the car I knew something was wrong and pulled my firearm. The individual who ran to my driver side window with his fist balled up met the business end of my ruger. After seeing my weapon, he ran down the street and the other two individuals yelled at him asking why he stop. The individual at the rear of the car ran after him and the individual in the tan car drove off after them. I didn't get car jacked. Nobody got shot and my weapon did it job without me even having to pull the trigger. Just having a weapon is often enough to prevent a crime.
