As an investigator (now retired) in a very large SE Texas city, you couldn't know how many women call their boyfriends/husbands first rather than police....simply amazing...despite an alarm company calling police for what could be a false alarm, the homeowner should alwaya call police, too...the calls are recorded and can be used to show the heighthened sense of fear and axiety of the caller...it goes a long way before a grand jury if the owner shot someone.

What saved my wife and I was my CCW training. We were on a trip, walking back to our hotel, when 2 street people came towards us, and went into a flanking motion. We stopped, my left hand pulled her back, and my right hand started sweeping my suit jacket away from my right hip. That stopped the pair in their tracks, and they walked away, fast. Afterward, I realized we were in Toronto, Canada; I had no gun.

Hilarious! I was serving process (civil lawsuit) on a guy in a remote area. He and his buddy got "close" and said, that if they wanted to they could kill me, and then there would be no proof of service. I reached into my jacket to turn on my tape recorder (old micro-cassette) and it "CLICKED", and his buddy says they were just joking and not to take it so seriously. I was quite relieved that they thought I was armed, and continued the conversation. "Why would you say.... then I quoted him", and they explained it all out. So, now I had them on tape confessing to what they said. LOL

My wife had a similar story the first year we were married. I was working a graveyard shift and had heard from a Deputy friend that there had been a buncu of break ins with assaults on women in the area. My wife litteraly freaked out the first time she saw a gun up close but had by that point adjusted to their presence in the house but hadnt shiwn any interest. After hearing about the break ins and assaults, took her out and had her learn to shoot and manuver my 12ga pump. The VERY same night after leaving the range, she was walking into our living room and saw our window was up and saw a black mans legs stepping in through it. She took 2 steps back and grabbed the shotgun and about the time his head came through the window she racked a round into the chamber. At about the same time my black lab awoke and saw the guy too and she said all helk broke loose, he fell out backwards out the window but was just slow enough to have let our dog take a chunk out of his leg. I came home to the wife sleeping with our dog in the bed on my side and the 12 ga under the covers (keep in mind this was before cell phones were a thing and my job didnt have phone access while in the field). She said it took the cops over 15 mins to show up after she called. To this day I thank God our dog was in that night and my friend had warned me. It turned out the guys who were doing it were targeting elderly couples and single women, they knew I wouldnt be home. They ended up being caught and going to jail for a long time for the 4 rapes they commited along with all the burglaries.

We called the police after I saw an unknown vehicle at our house after I got off the school bus. The vehicle quickly left. I was home alone and initially hid out in the woods. The police took about 15 minutes to show up. I got our moped and went out to see if any activity. The police had staked out the ends of our road. They didn't just rush in. They often don't want to go one on one in a confrontational situation. The unknown vehicle turned out to be one of my mom's friends who was driving to our house for some reason. In relation to the gun use in this story, there were guns in the house but they had no impact on this story.

This happened in the late ‘80s in one of the neighborhoods in Boston. I was new at work and was asked to drop off one of the work cars at a shop on the way to work. It was a sketchy neighborhood and really early in the morning, but I was assured one of my co-workers would be there to pick me up. Anyway, he wasn’t there and I waited and waited. I decided to find a pay phone (anybody remember the last time you used a pay phone?) . Being in that neighborhood was bad. My buddy not showing up was really bad. But getting out of the car was a BIG mistake. Immediately, someone started to follow me. To make sure he was following me, I turned around and acted as if I was looking for a landmark. He immediately turned around too so I couldn’t see his face. No question he was about to rob me. Anyway I picked up the pace and saw a school bus that was idling while waiting to pick the kids up. He took pity on me as he knew I was in the wrong place and let me on. Sat with him til he had to leave and still my buddy wasn’t around, but now it was light out and enough folks were on the street that it was safe. I had a pistol on me which made me feel a little better, but what if the guy had one too. Completely forgot about this til reading this thread. Be safe out there!

Thank you for sharing your experience. As a woman, I suggest if your door locks are accessible through glass, get a different lock - key in/key out. I lived alone in the 1970's when my husband was deployed to Vietnam and learned that about locks and security for doors and windows from Consumer Reports. Thst type of lock helped keep my son and I safe. I love the Glock 26 also. Blessings and stay safe.

    • @lyfandeth
      @lyfandeth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

That "keys only" type of lock kills people. Ask any fire department, when the house is full of smoke, you don't find the key and you die. There are other better ways to secure a door, but locking a door that is made with a plain glass window is foolish. At least install hurricane glass or a shatterproof polycarbonate panel.

Just the other day while in my driveway with my wife and two dogs a full grown copperhead slid out of the bushes as though to say hello. We had this discussion because I felt it was time to arm myself, to protect my family based on the growing unrest in our country. The culmination of the discussion was that she agreed that it's better to have a fire arm and not need it, then to need it, and not have it. She also agreed to take a beginner fire arm course to get more familiar with pistols and using one safely. Great video. Thanks.

Besides, many people replace them with night sights, which has a different need. I shoot a Glock 30 with OEM sites and a Glock 22 with night sights...to each his own.

I took my Glock 19 and goes silently downstairs. I saw a guy with a big knife, he just finished to open a window unorthodox and was standing in the room. I don’t hesitate a second and fired 2 warning shots, close by his ears. He jumped out of the window and I’ve never seen a man, running so quickly. I think Usain Bolt was having not any chance
His knife (which he dropped on the floor) makes that I was sure, I did the right thing. Later I found his burglar equipment as well

Even though the alarm system notifies the police DO NOT call anyone else (husband, wife, boss). You need to be on the phone & stay on the phone w/them so the dispatcher can direct responding officers, and so officers do not mistake the caller for the burglary suspect. I saw a lot of this during my career and it always resulted in a delayed response or additional confusion during a possibly life threatening event.

Well said. There a bunch of parrots out there that just repeat what someone said on the internet ad nauseam, standard Glock sights being a favorite. Also grip safeties and how you need two 15 round reloads when you carry or you are being suicidal. I would be willing to bet half these guys have never looked through a set of Glock sights.

  • @Uberragen21

People need to be informed that the most common time for home burglaries is *DURING THE DAY.*
    Why?
*Because we work...the criminals don't.* The most common shift is the day shift, so most people are out of the house by 7am or 8am, leaving your house wide open to a burglary. If you happen to work a different shift where one adult is home during the day, that adult is more likely to be home during an attempted burglary.
Use some simple techniques to harden your home against forced entry and it will help reduce your chances of becoming a victim of a home burglary.

Really glad to hear your daughter is safe and that you trained her well. However, she should not have had to chamber a round. We should always have one in the chamber. Those few seconds can mean the difference between life and death. I heard a story about a guy whose wife wasn't comfortable with him having the gun in the house with a round chambered...then one night there was someone causing a disturbance at their door. The husband goes to the door to try to assess what's going on. I don't remember if he said anything to the guy at the door or not. Fortunately, I believe it was just some drunk guy who left, but after the urgency of the moment had passed, the husband realized he was standing at his front door, with his gun, and there was no round in the chamber. In the heat of the moment he'd forgotten to chamber a round. That could easily happen to any of us. After that, he told his wife the gun needed to have a round in the chamber. I liked that she called out to the intruders that she had a gun and then locked herself in her bedroom. No reason to confront someone. If all they want is stuff, it's just stuff. On the other hand if they had decided to pursue her in the house, she should have shot to stop the threat. So other than not already having a round chambered, she seemed to do everything right.

Many good lessons here. First, she had a gun for protection, and knew how to use it. She did not panic. She retrieved the gun, but did not just run into an unknown situation. Stood her ground in a known defensible area and made it known she was armed. When the scum ran, she didn’t follow then; threat likely over but still remained vigilant in a defensible space. Good job. I hope to never be in such a situation but hope I remain calm like her.

As a former NRA pistol/ defensive shooting instructor, I've heard some great stories from former students. One student has become the weapons trainer at the cop shop were he works, near Detroit, he told me, he trained his officers the same way I trained him. Two of his guys took it seriously, as they squared off with six gang members with handguns, the officers were the only ones to go home. It's quite rewarding to hear that what one has taught, is being passed on.

I applaud your daughter for the way she handled the situation, though with One tip. First, calling the father should've have been the NEXT thing AFTER calling 9-1-1. She automatically thought that the alarm would summon the police.. this may be true.. But even so, that's a pretty dangerous assumption to be making. Calling the Police to report the break-in should've been the FIRST priority. She acted appropriately in obtaining the firearm, racking the slide and keeping the gun with her and calling out to the robbers that she was armed and to leave the premises immediately. Im glad that she's okay after all that. You taught her well.
