HA those blue stones were at the bottom of the aquarium filled with invasive crayfish that some jerk tossed into the brook

We had freshwater crayfish in a tank once ( We call them Yabbies here in Australia) and when they shed their skin/exoskeleton they actually ate it!! So that poor fellow you guys found might have been 'recycling' his old skin.

Si-finds Thames Mudlark Someone was moving house, and didn’t have room for their poor ol’ goldfish, “Nemo”, so they decided to liberate him in the river, and just emptied the whole tank there. He lived happily ever after. The End.

What a lovely chap Terry is. I like to hear a proper Londoner using some rhyming slang " he's brown bread" - dead. I'm from Yorkshire and I love to hear other dialects.

That poor crayfish! You did mess it around a bit. I wouldn't go back there too soon in case it recognises you. It only had one claw but it was pretty big. It might sneak up behind you.

This is in reference to the goon show bbc radio show of the 50s the performers recorded the “Ying ton song” google or TH-cam it?
That fancy round thing that almost looked like a cupcake holder you found is part of a handheld washing agitator used in a washtub to agitate clothes, kind of in a butter churning type motion. It was on a wooden stick and the outside was shaped like an upside down funnel. I found one in a thrift store today and the underside of it had that piece right in the middle.
Was it that small?
My son and I kept crayfish for many years in tanks. They shed their shell and then eat it. Pretty cool to watch. They are a pretty cool pet to watch. We fed them turtle food.
Enjoyed the river walk. So fun to watch you two together. I would have gotten excited over the blue stones too. Sometimes it is the simpler things that bring the most pleasure. I really like you printer’s drawer. Great way to display your finds.

Probably a copper mineral called chrysocolla. Its usually found next to quartz which can in many cases cover it with micro sized crystals called druzy quartz, which would explain the sparkles you see.

That was a different adventure, but very enjoyable, none the less. I was cracking up when you showed Terry’s profile was a match to King George! Some neat finds today Si! The 4d per lb sign was likely a butchers sign used with a spike at the back of a tray of meat
What a super fun adventure Si Finds and Terry! How I wish I was along! Now Om inspired to walk into my back yard, which is woods and walk the creek. I do this from time to time but never found too much exciting things besides fishing stuff. It is a trout stream. I'm always on the lookout for Native artifacts and did find a flat stone with a worked notch that would have been use for a fishing weight. The blue stones? They look like pieces of chrysocolla which is a blue/green stone. I have some blue pieces that look like what you found. Also there is a howlite stone that is often mistaken for turquoise and even marketed as turquoise by not so honorable dealers. I don't know if either exists in the UK or not. I'll have to look it up in one of my books. And the type setters box with your Si Finds looks great. Many Thanks to You and Terry for a Fine Sunday adventure that I enjoyed from my easy chair. Very hot today but I think I'll head to the creek. It's always 10 degrees cooler there anyway, a spring fed creek that will cool you off very well. My biggest joys come on Sunday when yall take me mudlarking. You and Nicola are the first 2 I have to watch then I have Norhtern Mudlarkers and Kit & Caboodle, then I have to watch about 4 others that each of yall have recommended lol Sunday is the grandest day for mudlarking fulfilment. I love the creative ways each of you are exposing the world to those special relics, keeping history alive and telling the stories of yesteryear. I get angry knowing that children of this day and time have little to no real education in history. I can never stop finding or reading about the real history of our past. My Grammar (she was a one room school teacher back in early 1900s, specializing in English) would always hand us a history book when we were put down for naps while we were visiting for the week. I always came home with so much new information and it was exciting.
I never had a bucket list because when I had cancer back in 1986 I did all those dare devil things over 4 years, yes those stupid things lol to relish the fact that I was still alive lol But the main desire I have in the dream sequence of my life, would to go mudlarking with you and Nicola. It is a dream sequence and not bucket list because my "survivors" body couldn't do ti anymore but I relish my Sunday's with you.
I lost my 26yo son in May in an accident and he was a treasure hunter of different sorts like you, He loved restoring old homes back to their original glory, he loved working with wood, he loved history. Back before I finally became disabled (or actually admitted it) I probably took him to over 200 to 300 museums most from small towns, he went to many Civil War reenactments and had a major understanding of tactical war methods that were used. His favorite was from North Carolina... When Lord Cornwallis stated "Let's get out of here; this place is like a damned hornet's nest." because they were being beat back from the random attacks of anything from pots and pans to pitchforks, the farmers wives were coming at them with everything they had, children were prepared for them from trees with bricks and other things to twart the British from progressing on their lands. They were being swarmed as if they had walked into a Hornets nest and fled back from where they came.
Our history is so important, ALL of our history. If we don't know where we came from we will never know where to go. Thank you for being an exceptional young man, thank yoyu for taking this old girl on a fabulous journey every Sunday. May God bless your coming ins and your going outs. Love you from 4000 miles away.

What a great tribute to him in your post to a mudlarking/treasure hunting channel. I'm guessing he would have loved @Si-Finds Thames Mudlark, Nicola White, & the other lovely ppl we have met through them, as much as you do. Yes, I understand what many don't; that even if one survives cancer, there is an enormous toll on the body that can linger for life. In western Kentucky (USA) you can always tell when you were getting near an old iron furnace by the bright blue stones (slag)

@@fishinwidow35 I had a place just east of LBL, town called Kuttawa just west of Eddyville. There was an old furnace there with a historical marker by the road. My brother and I have explored that one a few times, with metal detectors. Never did find anything though.
@@samueljames9342 I know where that is. I lived in Cerulean for several years. We went all over looking for fishing holes and saw all sorts of things.

Both crustaceans are Signal crayfish which are classed as an invasive species and are reaching plague proportions in the UK, they carry a disease that is fatal to our native white clawed Crayfish which are becoming an endangered species.
I believe it’s even illegal to return them to the water once found. Not that I’d imagine it’s policed very rigorously...
Old boy has the eyes of a hawk, proof mudlarking is good for you. He has the dexterity of that crayfish though, pls help him down those slopes Si. Hate the thought of him busting a hip out there.

Crays shed their shell as they grow. Often they eat the old casting to recover the calcium. Here in Australia they get over a foot long.

In the UK if you remove red signal crayfish and put them back in the water even as bait, you are breaking the law.

That looked like loads of fun, but get a grip you two, getting all excited over some aquarium gravel, available for about a fiver a kilo! 😀 I remember those shield shaped signs well from a few years back. They were commonly used by greengrocers. Well, there be some weird and wonderful stuff in an English country stream, right down to some murderous foreign crayfish. Very entertaining both of you. The blue coloured stones are decorative fish tank gravel, you can buy it in all sorts of colours, pink, red, blue, green or mixed with white or natural :)

Nice to have Tell along, too... All the time I was in England I'd never heard of indigenous crayfish, I wonder if they were in Somerset... I was thinking the stones could have come from something else, but I'd be excited to find them as you wouldn't think they were native to that area - but? Peeps chuck the weirdest stuff into water... Interesting little sign. Those stones do look like turquoise, but might just be from a fish tank. But you can wrap some in wire and make some earrings, or wrap several for a bracelet. You can have a lovely set for sale.
enjoyed the adventure, I have several hundred of those blue rocks in my gravel driveway, I put them there when I got rid of my fish tank, the rocks were in the bottom, take care

Just to comment on what a gentleman you had as a partner in this video! Interesting place to investigate. When you were kneeling in the water to find your blue stones, all I could think of was you getting pinched by the crayfish. Glad you found a coin. Any info on the bricks?

You are right about the shield and the US highway signs, I immediately felt the shape memory. They dont really use this shape in my state any more, all rectangular and printed, no fun

regarding the blue pebbles, my brother says to ask if there are caves or old mineshafts in the area because sometimes stalagmites kick off blue copper-rich mineral fragments. If they are this, he says they will be crystals and clean up nicely, (so maybe check under a microscope?) p.s. signal crayfish are delicious! ... bring some butter next time 🤣
