Did you notice that when John saw The Lamb of God, he also saw a rainbow...the promise of God to the world of redemption.
I didn’t see the rainbow. Did I miss it? Where was it?
I DID notice the 🌈 but didn't think of the promise to Noah as I usually do. I guess there was too much going on, the lamb, the imminent death and my thoughts about those things. Thanks for pointing it out.
That prophecy that Zechariah pronounces over his baby in his arms is sooo powerful… the details of God's character and why He chose to do it this way… truly awesome!
I've always wondered how old John was when Zechariah and Elizabeth died. I'm guessing they weren't around when he was beheaded. How kind of God to spare them that.
He was 33 only a few months older than Jesus!
I always wondered how old was old back then. We know Elizabeth was past bearing children but considering how young girls married and started families she could have been 45

@@rachaelmorgan4025 it seems unlikely that Liz would have been in her 70s or 80s. She'd have to be able to get though the birth and live long enough, Zechariah, too, to raise John for the early years, at least.

What I find so great about the scene of John's last moments, seeing the lamb and the rainbow, is that the lamb walks INTO the rainbow... into the symbol of promise...
Btw, in the very last scene, where Jesus returns to meet his disciples, notice that He not only has his garment torn, he also has ashes smeared on his forehead!

I cried both because John was being killed and also because it was also a step closer to Jesus’ death 💔.
When Simon held up Andrew at the doorway upon receiving Joanna, it so reminded me of when Jesus held Simon above the waves when Jesus walked across the stormy sea in the final episode of season 3.

Josephus' account of what happens next is interesting. While dancing on the ice when in exile, Heroditus fell through and died. Also in exile, Salome fell through the ice as she was crossing a river and was caught up to her neck and wriggling trying to free herself, looking like a sort of "death dance."
I’d have to say you guys have the best commentaries of all especially with the historical background. I always come to you after each episode. This really makes me want to study the word and history more. Thank you so much for your hard work. You should have MORE followers.

John the baptist had Prophet Elijah soul and the wife of Herod had Jezebel spirit. Old testament she wanted to kill Elijah and here again same thing happened again but not before he fulfilled his destination of preparing the way

I thought they made Elizabeth and Zechariah appear older than they would have been since priests only ministered until they were 50 years old. They looked like they were in their 80s. But it was portrayed in such an amazing way, loved it.

Those of us who say Divine Office say Zechariah's prayer every morning as a part of it. In the evening Mary's magnificat is said in each evening prayer. This is what she said to Elizabeth when she arrived. I wish it had been included in the episode.
He even brought up weddings in the book of John. John the Baptist knew

The LORD has required His bride to keep their robes "radiant... without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish" (Ephesians 5)
Cleaning those stains requires a soaking in detergent, a scrubbing, a beating till all is clean. We get such cleaning through trials.
Judas did not allow the cleaning process that God was requiring. The stubborn bits of his old life remained (because of hardened heart, a refusal to die to self including old way of thinking, pride and leaning on own understanding) so it led him to the subsequent actions leading to Jesus death
I thought John’s comment about going to a wedding banquet had two meanings, yes the one in Heaven but also that his head was going to a banquet now.
Matthew does the traditional genealogy (this guy is son of that guy) while Luke actually goes backwards starting with Jesus earthly father Joseph and goes all the way back to Adam who
Is created by God. Proving Jesus is indeed the son of God
six months of pregnancy- when most feel the movement of their baby for the first time- I believe it was the leaping of John felt first by Elizabeth when Miriam arrived and called her greeting.

The word Angel is “derive from Late Latin angelus, which in turn was borrowed from Late Greek ἄγγελος angelos (literally "messenger").” So The Chosen rightly calls them Messengers.

I'm curious, what would have happened to Salome if she wouldn't have asked for John's head??
Her mother would have been mad, but heck, Salome would have walked away with a lot of loot and everybody else would have been happy 😊. Step-daddy Herold would have probably prevented Herodius from doing serious harm to her. Or with all her money Salome could have hired guards and bought her own palace. Anybody else have ideas about possibilities?

Is it because they where not close to god they could not recognize him?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to the Jewish leadership not recognizing Yeshua as Messiah. Many Jewish people were expecting a political leader that would overthrow Rome. Some of the religious leaders had also lost the heart behind following the Torah and had prioritized making sure they appeared to be doing the right things instead of making sure their hearts were connected to GOD. Yeshua's criticism of the Pharisees is almost always about their motivation and heart posture behind what their actions and not the actions themselves. GOD has always desired to be in relationship with His people and many of the religious leaders were missing that relational emphasis.

Since the word Angel originally means messenger and the Hebrew word for angel which is מלאך simply means messenger, I have no issues with it.

A tiny mug is Dr. Tom's preferred way to drink coffee. He likes his coffee really hot so he pours a little bit at a time our of a thermos.

Zacharia was not only dumb, he was deaf as well. I missed that for so many years. The Bible says, "silent". And when the baby was to be named they had to make signs to Zachariah about the name. If he was not deaf, why didn't they just talk to him and ask?

It's funny how the disciples are recognizing how well John The Baptizer fulfilled his purpose afyer his death. In the same way, there were so many things that Jesus said and did that His disciples didn't realize until after He was crucified resurrected and ascended.

Are you aware that in Mathew 23:35 when Yeshua is saying the Pharisees have the blood of "Righteous Abel to Zacharias son of Barachias" the Zacharias he's talking about is John's Father, he was killed by Herod the Great because he wouldn't give the location of his son, because Herod thought John was the Messiah, as his was the only birth in the area that had a lot of notoriety associated with it, this was at the time of the murder of the innocents.
Our Bible study on Zachariah:
Based on KJV, Zachariah became mute and dumb. I still need confirmation whether he was still in his senses after his encounter with the angel in the temple.
There's this medical condition called Broca's aphasia wherein a person is able to receive questions and process them in his brain but unable to speak audible words just sound that doesn't make sense because the muscles of his tounge are not able to to coordinate with his brain on properly pronouncing the words he wants to speak out. To the receiver he does not make any sense. This condition can go side by side with Wernicke's aphasia wherein he receives a questions differently and answers with unrelated sentences (audible words but doesn't answer question).
He could have used the tablet to write all in his mind but KJV said he was made dumb so that I have an inkling to the idea he does not know all that was happening around him let alone the pregnancy of Elizabeth.
As to him being dumb, the LORD reminded me of King Nebuchadnezzar and how the LORD took away his sensibility that he was found running naked in the forest grazing on grass for how many years until the LORD lifted the curse on him and he became normal again but this time humbled by the Almighty living God.
In the Bible study, it was impressed in my spirit that the LORD seemed to have done this to Zachariah. So that the being mute and being dumb was only lifted at the moment he was asked the child's name on the 8th day of circumcision.
The prophecy recited by Zachariah was the Holy Spirit prophesying right there and then about the child.
The Catholic Church got it right. The Magisterium is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
This is why I'm Catholic. The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is founded by Christ Himself.
Elizabeth and Angel Gabriel gave us the Hail Mary prayer. This is precisely why we pray to Mary.
She points us to Jesus. And her Divine Son listens to her. She can intercede for us as she did during the wedding in Cana.
The Church Fathers faught during the ecumenical councils and rightly identified Mother Mary as the "Theotokos". Do you relize how St. John the Baptist jumps in the womb when he hears Mary's voice? He is doing his version of king David's dance in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Mary is the Theotokos, the Ark of the New and Eternal Covenant.

Elizabeth is called Mary's relative in the Bible. I don't think it specifies how they're related, but with the age difference, aunt and uncle could be right. Since Elizabeth and Zacharias hadn't had any children, they wouldn't be her grandparents.
The KJV refers to Elizabeth as Mary's "cousin". Several other bible versions say Elizabeth is Mary's "relative". Luke 1:36

When our "BC/AD" dating system was invented, there was some dispute about what year 0 should be. Most scholars are certain that the calendar is off by a few years, so Jesus was actually born between 6-4 BC (or BCE). The main reason for this is Herod the Great died I believe in 4 BC, so Jesus must have been born before Herod's death.

The Bible says older relative. I thought aunt & uncle would be closer than cousin, but I don’t know. I don’t think anyone, on this side of Heaven, can be sure either way.
