@@TomRivieremusic Most app based satnavs will, made worse if you use a Bluetooth headset to hear the audible directions. I have my phone connected to a power supply, either from the bike, or a power bank.
At 5:25 in your video, the app screen shows "Waypoint Rerouting Mode" and "Curvy Rerouting Mode" sections. I just installed the app (and also got the premium subscription), but my app doesn't have those two. I wonder if the app was updated in the meantime (your video is a few months old), or I got an inferior app or something?
They have made that change, I have mentioned it in a later video (Peak District day out - Yonderman's to Monyash) and I'm not sure if it is a good choice by them. I don't have the premium version of the app, but I was hoping it was just the free version they had changed. I've changed my route planning to avoid circular or zig-zag routes because of it, and instead plan the route in stages, essentially deciding my stopping points before I set out, which I think is a shame, but necessary.
I tried this app a few times. I'm able to plan a ride with way points pretty easy but unfortunately it tends to recalculate the route that is planned & puts me in a completely different path 🤷🏻♂️
I know they have changed some things relatively recently, I need to do a follow up video about it, but one thing is the way it calculates and recalculates routes, which I don't think was a good change.
It doesn't seem to track where I am very well. I am unsure if this is an app issue, a phone issue, or a network issue though. A recent trip has suggested it may not be the app,
Yeah it does sound more like a network problem. Since you have tested both Calimoto and Detecht. Given both work without problems, which one would you pick?
@@JJG4ming I would have the free versions of both apps on my phone, but I'd probably end up using Calimoto more. They both have limitations, but between them you'd get most journeys done. I think the main issue with the free version of Calimoto (in comparison to Detecht) is the region restrictions, but there are some other niggles. I did a video a while back on Calimoto if you would like to give that a watch. I have Waze, Calimoto, Detecht and Rever on my phone. All free to use versions. Rever is the only one I haven't really used.
You can zoom in or out manually on the map, but there is no automatic adjustment for your speed, so the level of zoom will remain the same until you change it.
You can share routes with 'friends' in the app, and on the website you can export and import gpx files. To export gpx files in the app, you need the premium version. You get three imports on the free version of the app.
So i heard you mention calimoto, and it now has me curious. Between this app and calimoto, which one do you think does the round trip planning better? Tired of always taking the same ride and looking for something i can just say i want to go 150 miles, hit the button, and have a route. Will probably end up exporting the routes into google maps because my harley has an infotainment with android auto, but really just intereated in which app does the random route planning better.
Round trip planning on Detecht is a premium feature, so I'd say Calimoto for that reason primarily. I've not had the opportunity to see the result of the Detecht round trip planner because I only have the free version, but the planning interface looks just as easy to use as Calimoto.
@@slorida calimoto is allowing me to plan a route for free, but will not let me export it or start navigation within the app without subscribing to the premium plan. I'm probably gonna give the free trial a chance and see how I like it!
@@joshlowe670 Ah, I knew the navigation was now premium, I thought they still allowed some exports. You could try using the website on your browser (make sure it it the full web version, not the mobile version).
Nice review, thank you. And unrelated - wow, very nice area for a ride
Thanks, very helpful video
The problem with this app it drains my battery almost empty. On each ride.

Does it have rain radar?

What are the problems you were experiencing with calimoto? Im currently looking for an app for riding, and it was at the top of my list

Can you make the screen bigger for better viewing and reading?

Thanks good video how much is it to pay for the app?
I believe the full version is about £40 per year.
Can you share your ride with someone else? e.g. your significant other?
