    I love how they both opine how affordable that pedalboard might be… perhaps a kid with a paper route could afford what’s on it. Then you look at the vintage Les Paul, the Van Weeldins, custom made Fender Twins and of course the Dumbles….and realize you might need a bigger route.

      pedals should always be the cheapest part of your rig, look at mayer who's inspired a bunch of players to get a 5000 usd pedalboard into a 500 usd amp, but mayer does the opposite if he had the option.

      Yeah.. honestly I think they are a little out of touch with how expensive this pedalboard actually is😂 I can’t afford it on a teachers salary without saving for quite awhile. As well as there being cheaper or more efficient ways to get the same tone in 2022 as opposed to 2012. Not including the les Paul’s and expensive amps 😂

      It’s amazing how many so called “musicians” misunderstood his statement about pedals. To put into lamen terms he basically meant that pedals shouldn’t define you as a player. That you should control the pedals and not let them control you as a player. That you should be able to play everything that you know how to play plugged directly into the amp and then flavor that with pedals. He did not say that pedals are of the Devil or anything of that sort.

    Never listened to him, but all i ever see in the comments is people talking about his gear, the tones his vintage gear makes, his "technique". I never see anyone talking about good songs, so is he kinda like the instagram guitarist/influencer, but for old people, genuinely curious but not interested enough to listen to his catalogue.

    • @aaronbrooks3913
      @aaronbrooks3913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He’s definitely not an Instagram/influencer. He’s a fantastic songwriter but the attention is definitely on his guitar playing. He’s a breath of fresh air in this “digital” age of music and instruments that we are living in. I would say that all around he’s probably the best guitarist of his generation and these current times. He can play everything from jazz, country, rock, blues, etc. and very fluent in all of those genres. And he probably has the best tone of all time on top of that lol.

    • @Viper-dz2kw
      @Viper-dz2kw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you’re pretty much spot on, he’s basically Tim Henson or Tosin Abasi for old people, just a lot of technique, I’m not quite sure how he’s so famous though he doesn’t seem to even do well in blues charts but constantly gets new signature models and amps while most people have no idea who he is. I can’t think of any other artist like that
      He is actually a pretty good singer with a unique but pleasing timbre for a blues singer though which surprised me considering how by the numbers he is otherwise, I didn’t expect him to have such his own style for his singing.

    • @aaronbrooks3913
      @aaronbrooks3913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Viper-dz2kw he’s been nominated for 3 Grammys and has worked alongside the worlds most renowned artists and players. I mean he has a net worth of 20 million as a modern blues artist. That’s pretty good seeing as the blues really hasn’t made a full swing back around yet. And he would be worth more if he would quit buying $150,000 guitars and amps lol. But I guess it could be considered an investment if he needed the money bad enough.

    • @Ninjametal
      @Ninjametal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robvanscheijndel there's maybe an interview somewhere, but I think it's as simple as: because he can, and because that's what he wants/prefers. Like you say, there are other ways to go about live gear; so the reason he chooses such is because he really wants real amps on stage. For the look, the feel, to get the most out of all the gear he's accumulated, to really compliment his vintage guitars he also chooses to use, and because he's old school. There's no shortage of reasons once a person has roadies to haul/set up the stuff, and the money to transport such bulk. The only drawback he has to deal with is the space it takes up on stage, which is probably equalled by having an impressive looking rig.

      Twobar - what is your problem exactly? Why are there guys like you who are just mean-spirited? What has Joe ever done to cause you to makes such comments - on Christmas Day no less?
      C'mon - if you're a musician, you should be supportive, or at least critical in a meaningful way.
      Hey, I posted that I preferred his OLD, more-raw tone. Just like Eric Johnson's tone that I find overly saturated, over-delayed (yes, I made that up) and too much like a violin. But that's just me giving my feedback as a guitarist.
      Our feedback is very likely the worst feedback he should hear. OTOH, there are legions of happy fans who adore his playing and his overall performances - which are extremely polished and professional.
