I'll never get over how pretty Halo 3 is. IDK what it is about some mid-2000s shooters but they're very "clean" and solid visually, I suppose because they're not trying to put more detail into maps than what your monitor's resolution and AA can deal with. Quake 3 started it, Halo 3 somehow made bloom look good. (Shout-out to Shootmania as well, the most minimalistic competitive shooter no one cared about.) Most modern games seem very over-designed by comparison and look a bit janky if you look at anything too closely.
yea halo 3 is pretty, but just to be fair its not that pretty, cmon the first Crysis same year as halo 3, and also CoD4 mw the same year as well.
and i agree about cleen visually i love that, some times i play the new cod mw2 and that is a visual mess🤮
@@kaspernaz8963If you remember correctly, the original Crysis was not meant to be played on current generation hardware, so really that argument doesn’t necessarily hold much weight. It took a decade for the game to be ported to consoles either way. Crysis shines in texture-work and environmental physics, whereas Halo has always had a sort of mystical, unreal lighting and visual unity, like nothing in the environment is apart from anything else. It all blends together spectacularly to form an almost painting-like picture, frame by frame. Crysis is incredible in its own right, but that was always the goal from the jump. “Let’s make the prettiest flashiest thing possible and also there’s a fun game and a narrative to go along with it.
@@ihazcheese it's pretty because artist design work there very well, it's like borderlands, or fortnite, or unreal tournament, or doom etc
I Just telling from the eyes of regular player, halo 3 not that pretty
But like fan of halo franchise, i respect they make they own style, and I love it, can't say it's better than (for exemple) doom, it's just different
Mid 2000s games were made in a period of time where it was possible to aim for aesthetically pleasing stylised realism, but also restricted enough to where you couldn't fill the levels or character models with obscene levels of detail and unnecessary visual fluff. Modern shooters have way too cluttered an image for the speed that newer games are played at, everything just ends up looking like a mess.
It used to be that 'I couldn't see him/he blended into the map' was just something salty players said when they weren't aware of an enemy, now it's just accepted as something that happens semi-frequently. You'd never get that in a game as clean and visually coherent as Halo 3.
@@kaspernaz8963You’re absolutely delusional.
Halo 3 is almost timeless in terms of graphics because it is reliant on art style.
Go play cod 4 and cryis 1 right now. They look like trash. Because while they were cutting edge back in the day, today they are very dated. This happens to all games that aim for hyper realism and detailed textures. This is why a lot of timeless games are cel-shaded.
Halo 3 still looks beautiful to this day due to lighting and art style. I just can’t say the same for cod 4 and crysis
I'm a sucker for "Halo 2.5" content like the Midship BSP, the Halo 2 assets in the Pimps at Sea-era builds, and those early development screenshots showing off HDR with a Halo 3 Spartan and Warthog on the Zanzibar BSP. The lighting and materials system in Halo 3 is so beautifully well-made that it makes even older, unpolished assets look good.
Citadel as a 8v8 map would've been interesting, but the decision to scale it down was probably for the best. While a BTB map without vehicles would make unique, I think it would also cause it to be pretty unpopular online, since most people who play BTB want to have fun with vehicles. I could maybe see some smaller vehicles like Mongooses and Ghosts working on this map, but otherwise, making this an arena map was the right call.
While early Heretic just reuses Midship's geometry, I love the idea of it being set on High Charity with some Flood growth around. I also think it was probably the right call to make the map more faithful to Midship though, since the Flood parts seem to get in the way of the gameplay slightly, and people weren't happy with how Blackout turned out with it's changes from Lockout.
lol Early Sandbox. Something interesting about this are the floating forge blocks. I wonder if these were achieved using the old H3 forge trick, or if Bungie were playing around with the idea of adding fixed physics as an option in H3, and maybe adding it in via an update. It's weird how one of the floating blocks falls when you jump onto it, but others don't.
The block that fell down was placed in Sapien (the world editor for Halo CE through H2A MP) which lets you freeze crate objects in position, idk about the other ones though they might be instanced geometry (part of the actual map) or a scenery object
I’m glad we got the sandbox we know today. Jump maps wouldn’t be the same if we had the earlier version.
Honestly didn't want the video to end, wanted to see every evolution of every map and more.. as somebody who played so many hours or Halo 3 it's so fascinating seeing things like this and the cut maps
Props to the OSTs used. All were top tier choices. Best of the best of Halo.
Should be played while in game
I was NOT expecting the elevator so send you to your death ahahaha. The whole time I was like "Ooh I cant wait to see what's at the top"
cant wait for the campaign to be finished
*Seeing early Cold Storage with the Sublevel 09 track makes me wish we got some type of ambience music for each level to make you feel what they were tryna do with the level*
God, the early Heretic is infinitely cooler than the one we got ☠️☠️☠️
Halo 3 always nails the maps to me personally idk if it’s the engine or what but it just feels to right
Ok midship looks dope. I wanna see a dope skybox interior of a damaged high charity
That cold storage map wow 🤯
Is the music in the citadel clip your favourite in the Halo franchise? Because it sure is mine! Love the content as always!
One of my favourites yeah, High Charity is my all time favourite lol
@@Kashiiera High Charity Suite from Halo 2 is such a beautiful song. My absolute favorite from the franchise. Marty knocked it out of the park with the atmosphere.
idk mate the best of the best, is definitely (and im not talking only in halo franchise) "Truth And Reconciliation Suite" this is a banger❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
What is that track called? It's a Halo 3 one, right?
Why couldn’t we have gotten this Citadel?😞

I personally have never and will never play as the elites in halo. Elite mains are weird.
And at the same time, I love that they’re a part of the game. And I like seeing them and hearing them. They add variety and flavor to the game. They add character. And in that way I love them.
I will never play as an elite in halo. But I will always be happy to play with them
Citadel gives me back room vibes
This is so cool! It's also crazy how much it looks like Halo 2 when it's in alpha. Shows how far ahead of it's time that game really was
Halo 3 looks so magnificent
I really like the original idea of Midship
The giant version of Citadel might be cool as a Firefight map now.
The FOV is so high I can almost see the back of Master Chief's head.
I think it's pretty low
early cold storage's shiny walls reminds me of halo 4...
maybe if they just made halo 4's forerunner surface finish look worn and non-ivory and more chrome, it would have been more appreciated...
Crazy how successful you become with this! I’m very proud of you.
beautiful
Hey just wanted to say, love your videos and keep the cool content coming! As a lifelong Halo fan, I always love seeing new maps, modded maps. and deleted content! Thanks & cheers,
get me on that mid grav lift in citadel and id make the whole map shake when my fat ass hits the floor. deadass
lmao
that's pretty neat! 🔥
it's so cool to see enviromental hazards in these early maps, like the elevator that put you up to death or even the spore sac. Would be so interesting to see bow would be exploited in actual gameplay.
Citadel seems a really great map, maybe with some light vehicle like moongose and ghost. Surely if we had, today would have been one of the best strange map (like the CE map in the space, can't rememeber the name sorry). Early version of heretic is so cool, because the actual heretic is basically a port from the H2 version, instead this would have been more personality; also the skybox is gorgeous (the destroyed "tower" in the water outside seems like almost a Dark Souls setting). Assembly seems very similar to the one that we had. Cold storage seems only darker, and also there isn't the flood in the capsule of hibernation.
Sandbox is really ugly at this stage ahha, i'm happy with the current version of Sandbox. Also those floating blocks really seems strange and "out of context". Also, i don't like the daylight; with the sunset in the final version is much more enjoyable and misterious.
Longshore seems also very similar to the finished one.
Thank you so much for this footage. Would be so cool is someone one day will implement some of these maps to be playable in matchmaking
hmmm intresting
the best maps of this list (for me) its assembly and longshore, but its doesnt matter because i still suck at bungie halo multiplayer
for some reason 343 halo games i play much better
@@kaspernaz8963 nah bro i feel you, homies been playing halo since they were born, hard to compete
Kashiiera, is it possible to have legs scale with FOV in Halo 3 like in 2? Thank you.
I don't think so
@@Kashiiera Bummer, will eternally annoy me.
Wow citadel is incredibly GetLost-y. their 2nd attempt was way way less fucked up.
Wow the skybox on heretic. I yearn desperately for a proper floodified high charity. not the claustrophobic repurposed floodship level we got. I suppose assembly is set on high charity but it doesn't feel floodified in its skybox at all...
Elite dialog thread 👇 I'll start
Salutations...

GREETINGS!
Halo question, if 343i(if they had a good year and main line games were set for content for a good while) or another studio got the opportunity to reimagine the Halo Trilogy, would you want it as Bungie kind of did it where it was game to game or have more consistency with slight upgrades now and then, for example none of the assets look the same from CE-3 or Reach because of technical issues and such, but imagine like the RE remakes(which arent remakes theyre a different beast with Reimaginings) where if the sandbox got larger so in some instances you find like an easter egg of the AR from CE in Halo 3 or 2 or whatever and jumble them all around, and have a terminal or something in CE where they mention other species of the Covenant(Brutes, Drones and others that show up later) so as to not break that continuity of them never showing up in CE and have them for later kind of like 343 Guilty Spark did with the Prometheans, or make it a interactable easter egg where you hit X to cycle through other members of the Covenant and slowly progress this game and Universe with whats happening currently such as Infinite or the Guardians from 5
yes i understand itd change TOO MUCH WITH THE HALO UNIVERSE, but if it sucks then we still have the OG to love, but stay in the imagination with me here and think of a game that connects the games so much, like why did the Elites look different from 2 -3 and so on, get even crazier because its been 10 years since the war(Halo 4 trailer reference) of 343i v Bungie, now monumental task given Halo MCCs debacle and for multiplayer ooof i think think that should be left to DLC for the current Halo game, like say if this studio collab'd with 343i to input their guns from their Halo Trilogy into the game for Forge or their custom games and matchmaking, the gun sandbox may become redundant i hear, but id rather a massive playspace than a narrow space for forging, so like say for Infinite, it could have its own +new guns +OG trilogy's + new trilogy+ new studios campaign dlcs weapons=5 plus years of content to shift around and play with til new game comes out for story, only thing that could sort out such madness would be 343i and the Halo community via custom game browsers or community play dates or some thing if people cant comprehend the amount of toys id want in my Halo game, sure some guns might be too similar sandbox to sandbox then leave some of those out but like the Brute shot from 2 -3 have enough of a difference to be 2 guns just slap the Halo 2 brute captains flag on the gun as significant detail, energy swords might not, plasma rifle might not, but its something to absolutely cry over that we might not get something this insane because itd be the most Halo that could ever Halo, the mod that reinforced this idea for me was the Mythic reflow or overhaul mod for Halo Reach because i freaked out when i found the AR from CE laying around and my ears perked when i began firing and heard something that has been tied to the first Halo since its inception here in Halo Reach and it got better i found the Halo 4 AR with its beefy rounds to purge the Covenant and there were concept guns new guns like i cried when it was over from start to finish because i play other reflows or overhauls and they didnt have nearly enough as Halo Reaches mod, not calling anyone out but dam i want a Halo game that can connect the Halos together not diverge them ❤❤
