    I really don't mind Linus talking about his sponsors like this. These type of ads are less annoying than the TH-cam ads themselves. And if they would annoy me, I could always skip them (which I usually don't feel the need to).

    • @radicaledward3783
      @radicaledward3783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    • @timothyjholloway
      @timothyjholloway 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I might skip the ads, but I appreciate that they aren't painful to watch and full of deception. Linus seems to just show some honest appreciation for his sponsors, and they deserve that.
      If advertisers were more down to earth and not so full of glitzy bullshit, I might not find it disgustingly jarring like so much cheap-tasting cotton candy shoved in my face... or vape smoke of that flavour blown in my face. I'm here to watch content, not be assaulted with your bullshit.

      iPhone SE is kind of unbeatable in price/value ratio for its $250 price tag (only Pocophone F1 comes close, but imho SE is a still a better value overall through its optimization, software support etc.). So long story short - reasonably priced Apple products exist, there just isn't a whole lot of them :)

    As a mobile app developer, I need to have mac hardware to build iOS apps. I have a custom built 8700k desktop, but needed a mac for building iOS apps. So I grabbed the new i5 mac mini. Works extremely well for my use case without having to buy a 2k+ macbook pro. I only use it really as a server, so I don't really care too much about the gpu piece of it. I just want it decently fast to compile code, and it does that well! We have a couple 2012 i5 dual core mac mini's at work we use for servers, and this new one is ridiculously better.

      I'm still using the late 2012 mac mini with my own ssd, works perfect for iOS and Web Dev. I'll be upgrading to the new one shortly, they're great for developers.

      @matheuseduardo7291 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Finally a developer's opinion around here :D.
      I'm looking forward to buy one for the same reason, and even that a Macbook Pro Retina Display is awesome to use, a more powerful hardware with a "bunch of savings" in exchange for the lack of a gourmet screen IS the big deal for developers.
      Buying Mac Mini, a good mid-entry monitor, and ergonomic pheripherials, can worth it for an office enviroment without spending almost the same on a worse macbook pro and having those thermal issues in exchange for a "awesome user experience".

      @Johnathan Bieß - That's _one_ type of memory called "RAM". There is another type of memory called "ROM" (Read-Only Memory) and another called Flash Memory.
      Ever played a cartridge-based game? The games are stored on ROMs; which is why that term is used for game files used for emulators. Ever used a Compact-flash or SD card? That's using Flash memory to store the files. USB storage devices also use Flash memory for the storage of files. See how people ended up using "memory" to say "storage space", now? Lol!
      Memory is a medium of storage just like optical discs and HDD. Solid State Drives are utilizing Flash memory as well.

      @@IpelengMotsatsi There is no way to access the data on that mac if the machine is not booted up and the usb or ethernet are working, if the machine breaks for some reason your data is gone, even if the t2 wasn't there, the nand chips and controller are directly soldered on the motherboard, de-soldering nand chips might be possible but it also corrupts the memory (and would require using the nand's manufacturer flash program to be run on it to even work again, which would completely destroy the data, this just assumes that you also managed to move the controller, and were able to relocate all the nand chips, sometimes you even require to run a separate flash process outside the machine with a special piece of hardware). So yes, if you overcome the hardest part that is to de-solder nand and reflash it, and re-solder it into a mac without ruining everything, then the t2 might be an issue, but i don't see a point in calling t2 an issue when there are ssd soldered macs without t2 with no motherboard port to recover the info and well the info is gone.

Plus, If for some reason, you haven't already got a transferable W10 key (or a old W7/W8 key), license keys are currently relatively cheap, on Amazon.

    If this thing doesn't sell, maybe, just maybe Apple will get the point and work on something better. But for the individuals that this product seems to be targeting, I sure have seen a lot of people with this new Mac Mini's. For simple use, yes it is a bit pricey, but tends to fall into what people are looking for in terms of ease of use and just "works". As long as that keeps going on, Apple will keep many of these devices around to cover this area at this price point.
    I am not defending or complaining about what they are doing. I and highly integrated in the apple ecosystem and MS. I see the worth in both, just don't see the point of shitting on everything that you may not totally agree with. That has got to be one miserable life to live.
    Its simple, if its not your cup of tea.... move on and you don't need to tell everyone about it. So much of the input from people is just trash and useless arguments. Social media has really overinflated peoples perception of their worth I tell you.

    4:08 Why did they make harder to open the Mac Mini this time? In the 2011 model you just had to rotate the plastic lid to open it, just like a jar of jam. In this 2018 version you have to use some tool to force the lid out, which will probably scare some users away from upgrading their machine at home instead of at an Apple store at a premium. Plus now opening the Mac Mini like this will probably void the warranty, while with the old model opening the lid wasn't an issue for the warranty, since opening the lid was something expected by Apple (the lid actually had markings indicating this, so it was something that Apple used to let users do)

    • @FrankLazar

    The lack of dedicated GPU is the biggest problem with this machine. Severely limits the potential of what it can do. Or maybe rather it just severely cuts out anything gaming related or 3D render related, which isn't the average consumer after all. Still, there is no upgrade option to add it even, which makes it suck.

    • @xureality
      @xureality 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      their target market are pretty much production houses (who maintain their own screens) and iOS developers (who literally just need a mac to compile their software because apple) so I don't really see the most pressing need for a GPU.
      And you can add a GPU to it with a thunderbolt box.

    • @odinsplaygrounds
      @odinsplaygrounds 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@xureality Adding it externally is quite irrelevant. You can, but at an extremely higher cost and downgrade of form factor. And as I said, the average consumer probably don't need too much GPU power, but that doesn't change the fact that this severely limits the possible use of this device. Not everything needs to be a "super extreme gamer rig", but not even having a weak dedicated GPU is quite jarring, as even a weak GPU would outperform the integrated GPU by several times.

    • @EbrahimSaadawii
      @EbrahimSaadawii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Mini is so small that adding an external GPU + SSD + even a freaking Noctua fan would still make a smaller-than-desktop PC, so no I don't see any issues with external upgrading a mac mini compared to any PC.

    • @odinsplaygrounds
      @odinsplaygrounds 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EbrahimSaadawii Ok, then go ahead and do that lol. And it's irrelevant if you think it's ok to cash out even more for what a lot of people think should be part of the package, as outlined in the video as well due to it's lackluster GPU performance. Had it been cheaper and same price level as it previously were, it could be more justifiable. Not to mention the "you can just buy external"-excuse doesn't really cover the lack of ability to even upgrading to add it.
