  • Quiet your cabin! Fix the wind noise on your Gen 2 Tacoma. Not only did this fix the 70mph howl, but it significantly quiets the cabin at lower speeds.
    It’s a 3/8”x1/2”x7’ gasket that fits perfectly on the painted area of the door opening. After a couple days it actually molds itself to fit even better.
    The Taco part number is V30-0731B7-1. I’m not sure if they still make it but here is the link for their website with what appears to be the current product:
    tacomarine.com...
    Here’s a link for a similar product if you cannot find the taco one that I used.

    Struggled to find the source of that noise for over a year. Did this repair on the road in Tampa and worked perfect. Got the last piece of weatherstripping the store had in stock and after a 5 minute warm up and install, the truck is now super quiet. I bought the weather stripping in your description and applied before a roadtrip. Had to pull over and remove it because the wind noise was so much worse from the doors not sealing at the b pillar. Any advice?

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d use blue painters tape. 2” tape up your door gaps. Drive and if the noise is gone the weather striping was not thick enough or in a place that sealed the area from buffeting. If the noise is still there it’s something unrelated to this fix. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for the info! I'll definitely give it a try. I've been told the noise could be a number of things, from the hood scoop itself to the windshield gasket being faulty, to even a "small part that is loose" located behind the radiator haha. I only hear it on strong windy days regardless of the speed. If rolling down the window didn't do the trick, would you still recommend to give the weather seal a try?

    • @bobbygfl

      I’ve heard if you take blue masking tape and tape around the door seams it’ll simulate the extra gasket and if that removes the noise than the gasketing works. Good luck!!

    Quick question, I have a 3rd gen and I hear wind noise starting at 40mph right from the corner of the driver window where the side mirror is mounted. I installed auto zone seal that’s like 5/8” thick but it didn’t solve the noise problem at all. Will this 1/2” seal help?

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d tape the door seem with blue painters tape and see if it stops. Keep taping until you find the noise and then see if there’s a space within the jam for the seal.

      @@bobbygfl cool, may I ask what will the painter tape do and how would find where the air leak is? In other words. What am I looking for?

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The painters tape blocks the air from entering the seam between your door panel and fender panel. If you really wanted to get into this, you could do it 12” x 12” around the entire seam. First tape up the entire door. And then do passes at 40 miles an hour peeling off 12 inches at a time until the noise comes back. I don’t think I would bother doing that but that way you would know exactly where the noises coming from. if you look at a Mercedes or many high-end cars, they actually have a gasket in the door that causes the gap to be flush. it’s hard to see because it’s black but once you look for it, you’ll see it and it’s exactly for this reason, noise

    Wow, that solves a major issue gojng on 10 years. Usually when I get to 75-80 mph. First it felt like the passanger side front tire. Checked it out. Wasn't that and eventually figured it was some kind of wind reverberation. Then I thought it was the antenna (maybe causing some weird wind flow)-- I lost my OEM antenna early on at a car wash and replaced it with something from O'Reilly's.I actually ordered an OEM antenna from a Toyota dealership thinking that woukd fix it. Didn't work. Then I installed wind guards. I will say the wind guards DID reduce the problem but didn't 100% eliminate it.
    But wow, thanks for this info. I love my Tacoma, but this has been an annoyance for a while now. Ordered the parts, just waiting to install.

      No idea why Toyota didn’t think this is a problem. To test close a towel in you door and see if the noise is gone. If so it’s the seal and this extra gasket will fix it. There are many double stick gaskets between 1/2 and 3/4 inch. Doesn’t need to be this exact one. Good luck!

    Just got my first Toyota a 2021 Rav4 and I'm not impressed. All the panels have no sound deadener on them including the roof, so loud during a down pour. The door window/lock controls as well as the overhead console have no lights on the switches for lights or the sun roof making it very dangerous at night time trying to find the controls. Thanks for getting back to me! I tried taping the rack and the windows. I can’t locate where the noise is coming from. I have a feeling it has to do with the rack. Just trying to figure out why the tape doesn’t seal the cracks.

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Casey L That’s really strange I would still just keep trying to move things if your roof rack folds in line maybe try that. I had a Ford Explorer in the roof rack made noise and I could never fix it. If the blue tape didn’t seal off anything then you’re likely right. Tape some cardboard cones on the front maybe and see if that eliminates the noise not so that you would actually do that permanently but just so you would confirm it is actually the roof rack. Often times you can change the aerodynamics just slightly and get rid of noise. If you haven’t reached out to Toyota maybe see if they have some kind of recall or service bulletin for wind noise on your particular year and model.

    I bought a 2015 Toyota Tacoma and same thing happens as soon as you reach 70 mph. I get a horrible whistling sound that is extremely annoying, I called they dealership and they played stupid and said they never heard of anything like that. So I finally figured it out about a month after I bought it. It’s the rubber door seal not thick enough to block the air flow going through, between the door seal and the cab making the whistle Sound. So by adding gaffers tape behind the rubber door seal, it stops the noise. The fix for me was to use 8ft x 1/2” strip of gaffers tape along the door behind the rubber seal so it pushes the rubber out more to make it thicker and make it seal the door better to the truck. I put the strips of tape about 5 times to make it thick enough to push the seal out enough to eliminate the noise. It worked! for about three years, but I’m starting to hear it again. So I’m going to try this taco weather lining next and hopefully it stops the noise for good. It’s Sunday 10/24/21 gaffer tape is about $25.00 a roll and it looks like duct tape, but anyway, you’d think the dealer would replace it for free since it’s a bad product in rubber seal design. I’m going to call the dealership one more time since it’s been a few years and see if they will honor it since I’ve bought about seven Toyota trucks from them over the years, I realize it wishful thinking and they’ll probably play stupid again. Oh well it’s worth a call to see.

    I did not hear it stated, but I assume that one does both sides of the vehicle. Correct? Since it is difficult to know which side of the vehicle needs it, it makes sense to apply the window seal to both sides of the truck/car. Please amplify this issue. Thanks!

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I did both sides. But in my case the noise was mainly from the passenger side.

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did this to a Kia and it made a significant difference quieting the car down. On the Kia we also did it around the trunk and hood. It’s shocking how much noise is created by wind turbulence in the gap‘s. Anyway I agree with you on the cheap metal but I don’t think it makes much of a difference as far as noise. It seems the shape, bottom panels and the gap sealing on the expensive cars is what makes them so much quieter. A good example is an original hummer LOL. That’s some thick Metal and noisy as hell.

    I know this is an older video but my 2015 Tacoma had this problem, it only happened when driving at high speed with a strong cross wind. I bought a similar weather stripping and now after 5 months I haven't heard the noise since. Essentially the stock weather stripping was acting like a reed in an instrument. Just like this video says it puts just enough pressure on the stock weather seal and the squeal disappears.

It sounded as if the door wasn’t even closed. Since it was all the gasket I had I took it off and I decided to order a helluva lot more so I can do the entire perimeter of the door. I also ordered slightly thinner gasket.
