- When I bought my 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner I noticed these 3 noises. I later realized they are completely normal and in most cases just means your vehicle is functioning as it should.

That second sound - the EVAP check hours after it was shut down. Thank you so much for this video. I've never had another vehicle that would make a noise hours after it was shut down. Self check? Vehicles these days are wild. 😆

Thanks for the video! You nailed the buzzing noise in the rear. I've had this truck for 5 years and I've never heard that until tonight. I was about to disconnect the battery to make sure it didn't kill it. Thanks, now I can sleep. 👍

Thanks for the video. I just bought my 4runner last week. Brand new and a few hours later parked in the driveway it sounded like the tires were inflating. But nothing in the owners manual about this. Good to know I don't have to worry about that hissing noise. Only 100 miles on the car.
My 21 SR5 4R is my first Toyota product. Purchased in the heat of summer, the first winter, I was freaking out with the exact same sound you first recorded, like a gentle rod knock or an SBC rocker tap. Drove my wife crazy with my near constant worry over that sound. I listened to many 5th gen Runners at start up since and now realize, some are very quiet and others sound way worse than mine. Thanks for your video; I'm going to relax and enjoy "Runner".

I feel better now. Past few years I went back to my 2003 Tacoma with 360k and owned for all of it. I know every sound and bump… I just bought a 2023 4Runner with 18k and lots of new sounds to learn.

Appreciate the video just bought a 13 tacoma and wondered why it made a ticking sounds at idle almost like a diesel. Now that I know that’s what these engine do I’m more comfortable 👍
As long as it runs for 300k miles, I can deal with it.
My dad has a 2005 tundra 4.7L with 600k nothing has been done to it but spark plugs not even an alignment!

Thank you you cleared my mind. I purchased a 2021 used with 29k miles and glad the previous owner drove it less than 10k every year. I was concerned about the ticking sound or knocking sound but comparing mine to yours, it sounds the same

Idk why but I kinda like the subtle click clack idle. Thing runs like a Swiss watch and it's true what they say about those japanese engines, revs super smooth and no vibrations like my old Ford. Love my 22 taco

hello. What does “ORP” stand for?
Off Road Premium (ORP). The premium package comes with pleather seats and other features the standard Off Road doesn’t have.

This was good stuff for a newbie Tacoma owner. Just got my 2023 Tacoma in December with 23 miles on it. So, I got another noise to run by you since you are the noise master lol. When you first START the truck for the day and drive forward no faster than 5mph do you hear a noise/clunk that happens? I started hearing the noise on the passenger side of the truck about a week after I got the truck. It only does it once and then I don't hear it all the rest of the drive. Does your truck do this and if so what is the noise? Thanks!

Hey man, just wanted to say thankyou for all these step by step vids. You got me to do the front end conversion on my limited and it looks sick, also did the metal front bumper. Quick question what are some other options for the led bar in the metal bumper that you may know of?
Thanks so much! Any 20” dual row light bar should work just as long as it is flat and isn’t curved. The brackets that come with the Body Armor 4x4 bumper allow you to adjust the position quite a bit to accommodate any light bar that is a 20” dual row

I have a 2023 Tacoma and it makes kind of a weird rattling noise kind of like what a diesel truck would make when they shift but this is when I let off the gas mostly sometimes it’s when I let on the gas but it’s usually when I am letting off the gas. What do you think it could be? It doesn’t sound like any of the sounds in this video. And I purchased it from the Ford dealership and I never noticed the noise before I got my free oil change done from them I only noticed it after.

Drive thru sounds like diesel is funny to watch people's faces. Mine has 110k, always ticked, will always will tick.

Any help would be appreciated:- 2015 4Runner limited, when I throttle it from dead stop into gears…. It’s making whining noise like a supercharger …..? Any idea what it could be?
What about a click (kind of crunchy like paper). It happens right after I start moving forward. Sounds like its coming from the steering column. My 4runner is a couple months old and its done it since day one. Thought maybe it was normal.
Why does my 2014 limited sound like it had a super charger and shift weird while going down hill?

Hate the knock......... Mobil1 did quiet it down- don't know why. My fuel pump makes a strange noise when the gas tank is about half full
Weird I guess these engines just knock? Mine makes me nervous but it's a well maintained 2015 Tacoma v6 TRD with only 74k on it!!??

I parked my 4runner(2015), I did my 1 minute shopping and , as I started my car, the cabin ventilation made a very humming noise. From one minute to another..
Filter is clean, fan has no debris…

Your engine doesn't have the noise. Sounds like a healthy start on your engine. The sound is more ticking or clicking. People get scared because it sounds very clacky and less lifter ticky.

A thudding/ certain knock noise over bumps at slower speeds from the front. Dealer says nothing is wrong and is normal for IFS with the cold.
Have Westcott Design installed on my 4runner pro with around 5K miles and currently in the process on trying to find why do slow turns and bumps especially my drive way want to make my car sound creaky. Pain in my neck knowing that I know the dealer probably won’t help due to the aftermarket parts. 🤦🏻♂️

I only here the tic sound when pulling up to the fast food window and getting vary paranoid as it matches the RPM then I get the food drive off and forget about it tell more drive threw window food 😊😊😊

What about on a steep hill my 2023 4 runner rolls back a little bit and then makes a noise
That’s the anti roll back protection feature. Engages your brakes, makes a click sound. Lights will also flash on your dash
My used 4 runner (24k) makes the engine tick/nock it never goes away even when at full operational temperature. Dose it stop?
My other 4 runner had since new actually dose not make the tick…. I have done 3 oil changes on the 4Runner that dose not make the tick. it has like 12k miles.
Mines has always had it, it’s still there even at full temp but less noticeable. I always get a bit more paranoid in drive thurs. Some are nosier than others from what I’ve heard

Hubs not unlocking all the way ,sometimes after using 4wd my 2018 4 runner does the same thing, i have to switch between 4wd and 2wd sometimes in reverse and they unlock no more clicking!!!
My 2014 SR5 makes a short suction noise when i revive the engine.
Car parked, hood open, a quick and short press on gas is accompanied by an a short air suction noise from the engine.
You can think about it as taking breath.
Is this normal?
Didn't notice anything wrong in engine performance though.
It’s normal, mine does it. I’ve had other vehicles and Toyotas that do it as well. Just the sound from the intake as the throttle body flap first opens and air moves around the blades

Actually was worried about the air injection pump noise on start up when i bought it from a dealer with only 76k mi now a year later my check engine light came on and sure nough its the air intake pump and valve assembly $2600 and i no longer hear this sound! Needless to say im pissed that i could have had this noise addressed while under warranty. What do you make of this?
I think it’s strange that the noise went away since it’s normal. They may have replaced it with a newer type pump that doesn’t make as much noise as the factory or stock pump? That’s all I can think of
Usually it’s pretty hard to hear on startup, usually more audible when you turn off. Maybe yours was going bad and was louder
2018 4runner took it literally just in for an appraisal and they pffered 20k told me MY ENGINE WAS KNOCKING, Like what haha my mans just said his sounds exactly how mine does when he bought it
I have a 2022 4Runner Limited with only 8000 miles on it. At around 65mph to 75mph, it is making a howling/whine noise under light throttle. The noise immediately goes away if I let off the throttle. The noise is 100% reproducible. It'll howl whenever I apply light throttle. Went to the dealer twice but they said it's normal. To me it sounded like a worn differential. Has anyone else experienced this?
Sounds like a bad lash job on the rr diff. Take it back and if they give you a hard time test drive another 4runner to see if they all do it.

@@Byebye7272 At this point I've visited three Toyota dealers, and they all said it's operating within spec. One dealer replaced my front & back diff fluid and it's still making the same noise. I'm just going to live with it.
@@bohan9957 that’s crazy. Mine sounds like how u explained it and kinda sounds like if I step on the acceleration it’s not shifting sounds forcing the gear. I hve a 2021 4runner 18k miles.
@@Byebye7272 I did test drive a 2023 4Runner Limited and it is also making a slight howl at 65mph to 70mph, although not as loud as mine. It's probably just the characteristic of the vehicle. The drivetrain has plenty of warranty so I'm not too worried.
Also wanted to mention, the GX 460 that I test drove was completely silent at all speeds. I believe both the GX and 4Runner Limited share the same differential and transfer case. The GX has more insulation and sound deadening, which probably explains why. I'm now beginning to think a used GX is a better deal than a new 4Runner.
Mine has a squeal in the brakes , i done replaced the brake pads OEM and cut the rotors and still a squeal ,specially in the morning when backing up , anyone has rhe same problem???😔
Yes I have the same problem I have a 2021 4 runner 40,000 mikes it squeals when backing up it’s sounds like the brake calipers are stuck but they are not

I got a new 2023 sr5 4Runner and I hear this noise like a squirt/quick hand break sound from under the dash/steering wheel too. It only happens once I start the engine and start driving off (then it doesn’t happen anymore until the next time I start the engine). Toyota dealership mechanic says he’s never noticed that before (it is quite subtle to notice at first) and isn’t sure what it could be. Is it the same as you?
@@CCAROmusicyes, same noise. I was told by the Toyota dealer it's doing an ABS check. Some motor under the dash. I didn't hear the noise until I had about 800 miles on the vehicle. People in the 4runner forums mention the noise, also. The noise bugs me. I want to know why it didn't do it when I test drove when it was brand new.
What about a whining noise at 2.5-4 rpms?

@@T4Rgarage 2015 4runner. 88k miles. I heard the 1GRFE engine whine is super common tho.
Even brand new out of the dealership 4Runners have that whining sound. Kinda sounds like a toned down supercharger
@@4runner1grfe Ah I gotcha, I assumed your username was a play on Tacos/Tacomas. Mine has light a whining sound mostly on acceleration. I assume mine is normal. I bought it from the dealer, who should have covered any issues as it was still under warranty. If its very pronounced I might have it checked out but I am pretty sure it's normal. @@T4Rgarage haha never put 2 and 2 together about the taco thing. Yea! That video you linked is the exact sound.
There are some purist who have attempted to change out the timing chain guides and oil pumps, idler pulleys. Some have succeeded but many say the sound remains.
I’ll chalk it off as normal also.

You answered my question but the hearing the noises on you video were had to hear, 1 Start Engine was fine, but 2 adn 3 couldnt hear anything.
