    Had a weird issue - followed this great tutorial carefully and had the Whip Pan transitions working fine on the timeline. Made them into macros and restarted DR17. When I dropped the transition onto clips on the edit page, it picked up the second clip first, changed to the first and cut to the second. Went into Fusion and switched the inputs - worked fine. Deleted the settings file, restarted and rebuilt the macro from the start - again great care and same outcome. Third time of doing it, same issue. So I opened the settings file in Notepad++ and changed the Inputs=ordered() function to make Main Input1 SourceOp='Transform1' and Main Input2 to use Transform1_1 and Bingo when I opened DV17 again! A massive confidence boost at finding a solution.

    Very cool stuff! I'm loving these new resolve 17 features!
    The ability to easily create and share fusion transitions was a game changer in 16.2, and I'm so happy that this has been enhanced in 17. I think it's a great way for the community to share an empower each other.
    I purchased some of your transitions and have been throwing them into my projects to spice things up and create a finished output with more impact. Perfect for a hobbyist like me!

    This is SO awesome!! What I've WISHED Resolve had for years. Great tutorial.
    One thing I would do differently with the motion blur is to use the same type of curve as the transform node, otherwise it does not look natural since in real life motion blur happens "in sync" with motion.

    In the transition that you released in DaVinci version 16, you made it using expressions, but in version 17 you can make it easier using anim curve.

    That's brilliant. It's still amazing how they can provide such a full-featured NLE for free! As an aside, I was worried about the 32GB RAM requirement and Fusion. I tested it out on a 16GB Windows installation *on a HD project* with some simple titles - it doesn't seem a hard limit, i.e. it still runs, but it is sloow. Wouldn't want to try it with 4K and anything clever. For my light and amateur workload I will still upgrade.

Can we create a looping title across the frame for high speed effect - like it does a few passes/loops left to right and when it reaches the middle of the timeframe of the fusion clip - it slows down and stops, we can read the text and then towards the end it whizzes out ? Would be really helpful. Thanks again

    Hi MrAlex.....Thanks dude for your videos. You are doing an awesome work. I know how difficult it is to bring out one video of this sort. I have become an ardent follower of you. After watching this video, one thing is nagging my mind and putting me through sleepless nights. How do you control the width and transparency of the border in the barn-door transitions in the intro and outro. There is no provision for that in the free version of Resolve 17. Is it an exclusive studio feature? Or is it a fusion work? Can you please help me make one like this? Sorry if I am troubling you. Thanks always my friend. God bless.

    • @WilliamJusticeMedia
      @WilliamJusticeMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrAlexTech 17 is good so far. Still exploring and learning... finding things i wish they did a bit different but overall I like it. For the animate and hold you can definitely do it the the AnimCurves.... In my last video on my channel I did a few experiments. I animated a graphic with the anim curves setting the displacement on a path modifier for the position. Pretty much the same as your vector result..... To get a value to hold you can use the custom curves. Just set the curve to be flat. So you curve up to a point, keep the curve at that point for a while and then move it. Really very flexible. It will all be percentage based. but it works.
      There may be other options for holding using expressions this in combination with some expressions but would have to think about it.

    I understand the anim curve plays over the timline dureation and adjust accordingly if the timeline is extended or shortened. Is there a way to loop it so that an animation plays more than once over the duration of the timeline? Like you can do the spline editor for keyframed animation. Or can you do a duplicate object that is being affected by the anim curve and then offset maybe?

    QUESTION: I just downloaded the MrAlexTechSliceTransitions. There is no instructions for use, but I discovered that you just drag the .setting file into Fusion. My problem is all the vertical slice transitions cause the second clip to come out upside down. (The others seem to work fine). What am I missing? To get the blur technically correct, the blur amount should be modified with the same Exponential function used in the frame motion (position). This eliminates the guess work and complication of the method shown in the video as well.

    Hi, MrAlexTech, I thought I would post this here as this is your most recent update. I viewed your video about the live streaming of DR17. You went through all the new things that it can do like seeing the transitions and the text fone and titles and so one. I was impressed by the new version so I downloaded it.
    I inadvertently downloaded the paid version it ran for a while then I realized my mistake, I removed it and uploaded the free version and none of what you show in the video workes here at all. I went to the DV Forum and people are saying much the same crashing all the time, Problems in start-up and it goes on and one to the point many went back to DV16. Maybe you can address this in an upcoming video as I will be going back to DR16 which I would rather not but I have no choice. I love all the features that 17 has but not the problems. I am more than sure if you send them a message asking why are so many people having problems in the install subsequent problems they might get back to you faster as you are a supporter of DR. Many thanks, I have my notification bell on and will be waiting to hear back.

    Hi Alex just wondering if anyone else is having issues with resolve 17. I upgraded from free version 16 to free version 17 but 17 crashes as I cant switch to the GPU and uses loads of cpu and I understand the new version is GPU orientated. I dont think its my hardware as I have AMD Ryzen 7 with rtx 2070 and plenty of storage etc. So I am wanting to get going with 17 studio but Blackmagic has a package for studio and this comes with a free speed controller. However, they are not supplying it yet. So the issue is, miss out on the speed contoller, get 16 studio and get automatic 17 upgrade that allows me to set to GPU or am I missing something fundamental. Any advice is very much welcome...I just want to have a go with the new features and try out your brilliant tutorials. Bren

    So I downloaded 17 and it crashed 3 times in 4 minutes whenever I tried to do anything to an MP4 video. 3 of those minutes were restarting DR. Uninstalled it but now 16 won’t install properly.

    Please tell me what is the light panel you use behind you in the opening of this video?
    I don't see it in your lists. Looks just right size for what I need.

    Nice tut, thx! Just a negative point; directional for motion blur is bad, cause if you adjust transition length, you would assume less blur. But mostly, the problem is that it works center bases (for each pixel, it blur it left and right) and not in direction on the movement. It is pretty obvious it is fake. :S
    Fortunately, we have ways to have real motion blur :P

      Do you edit with a SSD based Pc ? And if so is it much better...

      @@iiiiiMILLYiiiii I don't, yet. I have a 1TB SSD waiting to be fitted to my PC but otherwise use a 3TB HDD. As an IT guy first, I'd say the thing that would make most difference is having extra RAM. It is a matter of balance, though. If you've got less than 32GB RAM, that upgrade will cost you about the same as a 1TB SSD (~£100). Just to make things more complicated, you also have to consider whether it's your graphics card and its RAM that is the problem instead.

      @@Anti_Woke i currently have 16 ram

      My editing runs OK but sometimes lags .
      So will be interesting to see if it gets better with new card

    Just opened up Resolve expecting to see the 17 update but nothing. Checked for updates and it says I have the latest update 16.2.7?

      17 is in "public beta" status, so you have to download it from the Blackmagic web site and install it. 17 requires a database update, so you won't be able to revert easily to 16 if you want to, without doing a database backup before you install 17.

    Between some clips I’m not able to place a transition. Why could that be? Different frame rates?? Thanks in advance

    • @spaceexpireaudio666
      @spaceexpireaudio666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      no it`s probably because you didn`t trim those clips, you need to cut a bit from each one, depending on how much you cut you`ll be able to add transition of a certain size

    So the whole anim curve mechanic replaces expression modifiers based on clip length and let's you do a lot of the math through their sliders?
