    Daniel, found my problems which are: 1. When combining clips together I needed to use the timeline screen to show advancement of clip, easily found end of clip then dragged next clip behind it and apply transition. This way I do not lose any clips.
    2. Transitions: Used the method of creating dark triangle at end of one clip and beginning of the next clip. A very basic transition, but it does work and easily applied. 3. When creating Compound Clip I needed to make sure all clips are highlighted, if not will only work on one clip.
    Is now working - Title, compound clip with basic transitions, and music.
    Will create a separate project just to work on creating any transition, even those that you need to expand space between clips to make room for the transition code to get it to work.
    Again, really appreciate your help and involvement, shows you really care.

    Daniel, thanks a million for this outstanding video! I recently started in Davinci Resolve Studio and there was no good info on this. Everyone kept saying to cut a little off the ends of the clips and then drop in the cross dissolve. I was so frustrated. If your most important footage is at the end of a clip or beginning, by their own logic your film is useless. Explaining it with your intelligence, it's perfect. Thank you, very, very much! Working on my first music video of myself and you just saved my video release date! Much love my brother!

    This is an EXCELLENT explanation of making a transition work on an edit junction in DaVinci Resolve! The one-sentence explanation others give usually does not help noobs because frames NOT displayed on a timeline that are maybe in a clip is a concept really hard to grasp. This video should be at the top of the list for new videographers learning Resolve. Thank you❗(Or, maybe it was just me having a hard time with that concept.)

    Today I learned that I have been using the transitions wrong for longer than I care to admit. I usually just drag one clip above the other for overlap then drop the transition onto one of the clips. As soon as you dragged back the frames and then mated them and added the transition I felt like such a fool doing it the other way. This will save time and effort, thanks for this vid.

    • @Daniel_Batal

    how can i fix the slow time line ? for example when i move the cursor to certain part of the clip, it wont just play from the part im on. itll be laggy and slow. Is this a limitation for the free version or does the paid version do this too?

    @chezchezchezchez 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Wonderful. I actually had this happen to me and I’m a complete beginner, so makes sense that it would happen to me….
    I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but I’ve seen three videos on TH-cam that cover this answer.
    But I guess what’s a little bit interesting when you took the handle and moved it over for the beginning in the ending clip, you’re saying, that the information is still there that it can use even though you’ve cropped out that information da Vinci is still going to use the hidden information to build the transition. That’s interesting and you didn’t say it like that.

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes!
      That is really the backbone of NLE (non linear editing).
      Now, if you had two clips that you had already cut down from a longer segment, you probably wouldn’t notice as you dropped in your transition seamlessly.
      Always remember. All of the information in any clips is ALWAYS there, not matter how thin you slice it in edit

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use that one often too.

    @davidswanson9269 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Your explanation is all well and good but that is why I purchased video editing software in the first place so I don't have to consider your manual methods in the first place, to modify my work flow wondering if a transition is going to work or not. This impedes productivity and the creative process. It would be easier if the software would interpolate the necessary frames and create the transition as desired as the optical flow works when you do a retime. I have used other less ambitious software in the past that doesn't choke on video transition effects between clips. This should not be an issue with Davinci Resolve but it is still.

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You’re misunderstanding transitions.
      If you put most video clips that have been cut from your footage (as most are in any significant project) you’d never have this issue.
      With other simple software, they often duplicate the opening or ending frames and give you a different problem, motion freezing and audio drop.
      Some will try to manually move the footage in your timeline which throws your sync off if you’re adding transitions in the middle of a project.
      This is true of ALL video editing software.
      You don’t want that either.

      Depending on the version of resolve you have, studio versus free, there are certain file type of limitations and WebM in particular is one that is only partially supported in specific situations, depending on how you created the file. I would recommend converting that to a different file type.

    Hello! What do I do if all of the transitions I downloaded are only .mov or .mp4 files? I've downloaded titles for Davinci no problem before, and those were all .setting files, but when I download the folders for video transitions, they're all .mp4 or .mov?

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the transition type.
      Are they overlay designs?

      @@Daniel_Batal Thank you for the fast reply! I don't even know because I couldn't find them in DaVinci 😅 But when I open the .mov and .mp4 files, they're black backgrounds with the transition, and if I drag them into DaVinci, they don't work like they should, they're just a standard video. The category on the page I downloaded them from is "Video Templates->Elements". Are elements different than transitions?

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah. It sound like those are more like overlays designed to place above a cut.
      Often they’ll look like a motion that covers the entire screen and hides the cut.
      Though they should be built on a transparent background

    The extra frames used for the transition are called handles.

      Hmmm… never heard that!
      I think we all know the ease controls of a keyframe curve are called handles but this is new to me

      @@Daniel_Batal In the preferences in the user section under editing their is a line called handles which is used to set the default amount of extra frames on the ends of clips.

    Time saver: With the playhead over where you want the transition, just double click on the transition selected in the effect panel, and the transition will magically jump to the playhead 😅

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ehhhhhh.... kinda!
      It will jump to the next available split but doesn't form to the playhead and won't drop if there isn't enough enough information (as explained in this video)
      It's one of those shortcuts I rate as a solid 6

    I spoke too soon. Combining two video clips creating a transition is easy. However I am trying to combine 6 video clips into a compound clip with a transition between each clip. I have only gotten the first two clips to work with the transition, then it falls apart trying to add the other clips. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have not tried first creating the compound clip then trying to place the transitions. This could prove difficult in proper placement if it works.
    No hurry as what I am doing is "proof of concept", not for real for several months at least. Just getting a head start.

    But i am still looking for inivisible transitions which we can see on shorts from asian model channels . Channels are even 1 mln subs but its transitions that are do the job 🤔🙄

      You have to use templates that are built for Resolve (it’s a file type restriction for both editors)

    what if they are .mov files not settings files?

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      .mov flies wouldn’t be transitions.
      They’d be a video clip.
      In that instance, you’d need to treat them much like adding a video asset to your timeline

      @Daniel_Batal so essentially do the file organization within my windows organizer rather then having them ready to go in the tool bar of davinci? So I have to import these files to each new project every time I wanna use them correct? There's no way to store them within davinci?

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends.
      The file path I showed here for PC will get you to most of the folders for saving different types of usable files.
      There are some 3rd party templates such as text animations and such that utilize video files for portions of the overall effect.
      Definitely not my favorite type of animation.
      Usually those types of have some sort of installation guide with them contained in the installation folder.

      Thanks super helpful! Yeah I used motion array for vfx and overlays and such and most of them seem to be that .mov or mp4 3rd party style... kinda disappointed... I'd prefer to work with mostly those .setting files u showcased it seems easiest atleast for now... storyblocks is the way to go?

    • @Daniel_Batal
      @Daniel_Batal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First off, it does.
      Keep in mind this ONLY applies to when you’re using complete segments with no additional information.
      Different software handle the same situation differently.
      Some will automatically move the assets.
      Some will duplicate the opening or ending frames which causes a different problem, freezing during the cross dissolve
