I remember getting this game with my gamecube along with star wars rouge squadron 2. I liked both the games but I played this one a crap ton more. Beat it about 6 times and I still enjoy it to this day.
Man the description is a trip and a half: "This CGR review of Luigis Mansion on Nintendo Gamecube has video gameplay from Luigi's Mansion showing Nintendo Gamecube video game play of Luigi's Mansion"
I wish I still had this game. I recently discovered my renewed love for my trusty Gamecube and have been spamming the hell out of Amazon and getting some great games :)
My Gamecube to-buy list gets larger and larger. Here's what I have so far: - LoZ Windwaker and Twighlight Princess - Pokemon Colosseum, XD - The Hobbit - Paper Mario, Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion - Metroid Prime: Echoes
Both copies that I'll be getting are Japanese Version my Gamecube is Japanese by the way (Spice Orange) I'll get freeloader and few US region games next month.
This is actually one of my favorite Nintendo games. Its personality and charm create an atmosphere that truly make it special. It's part Resident Evil 1, with a little bit of Ghostbusters, and Nintendo's roster of video game all-stars! If you haven't played it, do so now!
I love New Moon but the loss of the C-stick and analog triggers is really felt in the game. Original Luigi's Mansion made flawless use of the GC controller's design
Yeah I need to ask did they keep those ghosts who are people that used to live in the mansion? Cause if not Im disappointed because that was awsome. And I think the graphics style take away the earie feel of it.
i remember christmas day back in 2001, my parents brought me a ps2 and a friend in my building got a gamecube along with luigi's mansion. He came over my place and we played both systems for nearly a day straight, but we played Luigi's mansion the most. Sadly i never got a gamecube, but that will change quite soon.
I actually really enjoyed this game. I'm usually not a fan of 3d adventure type games (the typical Nintendo game these days), but this one was pretty good.
Have yall ever noticed that the first one played like doom 3 with the game boy horror being a pda , no flashlight attachment , and the dark spooky atmosphere I just had to get that out ...
I think pikmin 3 is the next luigis mansion. It shows how beautiful the wiiu's graphics are but it's also a prety short length. Both games are masterpieces
I agree it has a short length, I've beat it start to finish once in just a day. But I did beat it many times, it can be fun with the secret rooms and stuff.
this was one of my favorite Mario games of all time. this was really the only game with depth to me, as all the others ha a hard time differing from the original Mario game. that, or they were Mario sports. i thoroughly enjoyed this game
I haven't played this game and frankly I don't know of it's popularity. All I know is that I hadn't heard of it before this review but that can be said about many, many games. The main point I was trying to convey is that the request for a sequal isn't exclusive to popular games. You are likely right about the rest though.
"back in a time where Nintendo was more concerned with pushing graphical power than new control schemes" Metroid Prime came to mind instantly. Also I take it this game is designed similarly to Shadow of the Colossus, in that each ghost is a puzzle just like how each colossus is also a bit of a puzzle?
@theras18 you're kinda right. There are definately games on the wii that look very nice, take a look at RE: Darkside Chronicles or Red Steel 2. But there are some ports from other consoles for example with terrible graphics, because they weren't made for the wii and what they did is just downscale everything. Also the Wii was made for CRT Tvs but despite that with the right cables its very playable on big LCDs imho.
I think what he meant was as far as the Mario games go, it is very unknown and under appreciated and as far as games in general go, it is IMMENSELY unknown and under appreciated. Sequels have been demanded for far, far, FAR less popular and unknown games so people demanding a sequel isn't an exclusive only for popular games.
I don't care what anyone says luigi's mansion is one of my favorite games of all time and I got a 3DS just to get luigi's mansion 2, good thing there are other really good games
Neither do I, I'm pumped for the 3DS sequel. I think you have a point about games replay factor too. I don't think games without an altered story are really that fun to play again anyway, and although I LOVED Portal 2, it isn't something outside of coop I have gone back to. Luigi's Mansion was very under appreciated at the Cube's launch and overshadowed by Rogue Squadron. However, I think it has more fans now than it did in 2001.
i remember this game. was so much fun :) i always tried to get the most money possible to get a higher grade, just cause i wanted to see what his house would look like :P
Thanks for being honest about not playing it. As for it's popularity, it's one of those games that people like, but only bring it up when it's attacked, do yo understand what I mean?
I remember when I got this game and I never could play it because my mom got addicted to the game.
Lmao :'D
I remember getting this game with my gamecube along with star wars rouge squadron 2. I liked both the games but I played this one a crap ton more. Beat it about 6 times and I still enjoy it to this day.
One of my favorite gamecube games from my childhood ever!
Man the description is a trip and a half: "This CGR review of Luigis Mansion on Nintendo Gamecube has video gameplay from Luigi's Mansion showing Nintendo Gamecube video game play of Luigi's Mansion"
I wish I still had this game. I recently discovered my renewed love for my trusty Gamecube and have been spamming the hell out of Amazon and getting some great games :)
rather play this than watch that new ghost busters movie.
Rather them both than the 2 new Ghostbusters movies
@@DanBedBy11 right!! lol!
aside from the length of it, Luigi's Mansion was an excellent game
One of my favorite games of all time
DJ Akademiks Dad this is my all time favorite game
"Mario is Missing 2: Luigi's Mansion"
This was one of my first games for Gamecube, i loved it! :D
I prefer this to the sequel, any opinions?
***** whY not???
agree because of bosses and the 100hp ghosts
idk I enjoy them both in their own ways. I just love the 3ds experience though.
And now this one is being remade for the 3DS. 😁😁😁😁
i was kinda hesitant about this game but, to my surprise it was very fun game.
This used to scare me when I was a kid
+F5FURU12 I once turned it on and when the deep voice said nintendo in the beginning I ran and hid. One of my favorite games though.
There were some creepy parts. I hope they make the Switch version scarier.
I like the more open nature of this game compared to Dark Moon. But they are both good games.
Finally someone who gives this game credit, I LOVE it.
hell yeah time to turn off lights and play some og Luigis Mansion
A creative first ever Luigi title in which Mario has never done it before. Go Luigi!
Another Gamecube review?
Excellent!
My Gamecube to-buy list gets larger and larger. Here's what I have so far:
- LoZ Windwaker and Twighlight Princess
- Pokemon Colosseum, XD
- The Hobbit
- Paper Mario, Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion
- Metroid Prime: Echoes
+Justin Nguyen Gotcha Force! Although, it's probably the most expensive GameCube game out there. At least the US version is.
XD and TTYD, two best games imo besides smash and Mario party
I love the fact they called his "computer" the game boy horror :D
Hey great review and a very interesting game. I've heard about it but never really seen much of it. I should see if I can pick it up somewhere...
the intro was amazing
@SoApBoX you mean like using a wiimote as a flashlight and stuff ?
Is this worth the buy?
If yes then I'll get it with Mario Kart Double Dash.
(Used copies of course)
Luigi's mansion and mario kart double dash were my first gamecube games. Great combi. Get it!
Both copies that I'll be getting are Japanese Version my Gamecube is Japanese by the way (Spice Orange) I'll get freeloader and few US region games next month.
I am European. Getting a freeloader might be handy for me as well because American games are cheaper.
@themangOMEGA i kinda am, but im worried about the controls, they said the 2nd stick controls would be transfer to the gyro, which sucks on buses
I bought this game like a year ago, but I still havent gotten around to trying it yet. It looks pretty cool though.
Love the fact he says the game is short at only 8-9 hours, I remember when games were decent
8 hours is way to short lmfao. That’s like a weekend
Yeah, I've played this game about 20 times as a kid. and still go back to it. REPLAY VALUE x100
Nintenbro I can always play this game it is so fun
My neighbor and I used to play this game when we were little, and the game kinda freaked me out sometimes.
wow 2001? these graphics dont even look 10 yrs old!! im really impressed with how well this game has aged.
Just like cgrundertow will always be in the shadow of classic game room
this game was so fun.
i really liked this game. Maybe I should find my gamecube controllers and play this game again. I thought it was really fun.
This is actually one of my favorite Nintendo games. Its personality and charm create an atmosphere that truly make it special. It's part Resident Evil 1, with a little bit of Ghostbusters, and Nintendo's roster of video game all-stars! If you haven't played it, do so now!

i love this game. its my favorite of all time
I like the CGR Undertow intro music.
This indeed looks pretty cool!
I loved this game, I played it through in a weekend.
can't wait to see ur review of the 3DS sequel
@xJLEvanss you know it is more powerful than the ps2 right?
Yeah I need to ask did they keep those ghosts who are people that used to live in the mansion? Cause if not Im disappointed because that was awsome. And I think the graphics style take away the earie feel of it.

why isnt this coming out for the wii u!?
krnjohn2 it should come out as a remaster on the switch
@themangOMEGA what? whens it out?
This game was short?
It took my brothers and i a year to beat
I actually really enjoyed this game. I'm usually not a fan of 3d adventure type games (the typical Nintendo game these days), but this one was pretty good.
Have yall ever noticed that the first one played like doom 3 with the game boy horror being a pda , no flashlight attachment , and the dark spooky atmosphere I just had to get that out ...
what a coincidence, I was just thinking about ghostbusters before you said it :D
Cannot wait for Luigi's Mansion 2!!
@mrvideogamesforlife weird doesn't nintendo say mario is the older one
I love how he hums music from the other games. This game is kinda creepy sometimes
miyamoto always wanted to use 3D for Luigis mansion even when it was created for the gamecube and now that the 3ds uses 3D, this is the main reason
I don't know about you, but this game has a lot of replayability to me. I play it at least once a year on Halloween.
Honest is something I'll always respect.
as for the Far Less part, I honestly couldn't answer it.
EVERY GAME ON SONY CONSOLES ARE GOOD?
I think pikmin 3 is the next luigis mansion. It shows how beautiful the wiiu's graphics are but it's also a prety short length. Both games are masterpieces
I suddenly got interested in Luigis Mansion 2
i really like this game. it's like a survival-horror game for kids.
Ending this Uncharted conversation that I REFUSE to get into. Luigi's Mansion kicks ass
I agree it has a short length, I've beat it start to finish once in just a day. But I did beat it many times, it can be fun with the secret rooms and stuff.
@themangOMEGA maybe its going to be for the 3ds i hope it will
this was one of my favorite Mario games of all time. this was really the only game with depth to me, as all the others ha a hard time differing from the original Mario game. that, or they were Mario sports. i thoroughly enjoyed this game
Did you play like 30 seconds everyday?
so excited for Dark Moon
How long is this game?
About 8-10 hours depending on how well you do.
Joniden thanks!
two minutes
I always played this game when I was like 6 and I loved even if I got stuck in the first room
I don't think I can acknowledge Ghostbusters as the greatest American movie of all time.
I haven't played this game and frankly I don't know of it's popularity. All I know is that I hadn't heard of it before this review but that can be said about many, many games.
The main point I was trying to convey is that the request for a sequal isn't exclusive to popular games. You are likely right about the rest though.
Waiting for Luigi's Mansion 2 for the 3ds! So exited!
You just questioned your own answer. Derek HAS forgotten that "Mario is Missing" ever existed! :D
"back in a time where Nintendo was more concerned with pushing graphical power than new control schemes"
Metroid Prime came to mind instantly.
Also I take it this game is designed similarly to Shadow of the Colossus, in that each ghost is a puzzle just like how each colossus is also a bit of a puzzle?

Looks really fun!
Is that so? I can't tell because i never played but damn it looks fantastic!
Aaaah...The nostalgia :)
I miss the longer reviews on CGRUndertow. Nowadays, they are far too short.
this game is absolutely epic!
just got another gamecube and its the first game on the list! XD
i adore this game it was the first game cube game for me and iplayed it aigan aigan and aigan jsut cuz i like it so much
I personally don’t mind shorter games. This is in my top 10 games of all time. Specifically number 7.
I think what he meant was as far as the Mario games go, it is very unknown and under appreciated and as far as games in general go, it is IMMENSELY unknown and under appreciated. Sequels have been demanded for far, far, FAR less popular and unknown games so people demanding a sequel isn't an exclusive only for popular games.
i know that but to me luigis mansion will always be a retared yet fun game but also challenging at the same time
they are gong to remake this game for the 3ds
No. Segali is the name of the Nintendo landlord which Mario's name and looks was based off of.
@BioGamer12
Luigi's Mansion 2 is what I'm most excited for on the 3DS.
I don't care what anyone says luigi's mansion is one of my favorite games of all time and I got a 3DS just to get luigi's mansion 2, good thing there are other really good games
The first Luigis mansion just seems better to me
This game is quite long compared to most games today and this game has a good replay value because of the ranks and the hidden mansion
The visuals still look better than the 2013 3DS version, so much more aliasing on the 3ds.
i remember this game. was so much fun :) i always tried to get the most money possible to get a higher grade, just cause i wanted to see what his house would look like :P
Thanks for being honest about not playing it.
As for it's popularity, it's one of those games that people like, but only bring it up when it's attacked,
do yo understand what I mean?
@RKOTHELEGACY they never actually said until later with better graphics to display each and such but luigi is oldest
Luigi's Mansion 2 FTW!
It's short, but very fun.
My childhood: )
Did you know this game was tested for 3DS back when the gamecube was being dev'd?
this game is wicked eye candy
What are you saying?
Remember when 8 or 9 hours was considered a short length for a game?
