Hey just a real quick point about the dark moon mission structure(at the time I'm writing this he was asking about why missions) while I hate the mission structure and it ruins the fun of the game for me the reason it's designed that way is because it's a handheld game so they made it mission based so you can boot it up clear something then get off(Which would make more since if missions weren't a slog to get through) Is it a good system or even fun No I hate it and it ruins the flow personally I would've just liked a save feature where you could just save anywhere and pick up where you left off (If it was like the toads in the first game it could ruin the fact its a 3ds game) that could've made it so we could have our handheld cake and eat it to. While I don't like the mission structure and feel it was completely avoidable I do see the logic behind it
I love discovering videogame "retrospective" channels. They make for great binge-worthy content and they have an infectious sense of charm, especially when talking about Nintendo.
Fun story: the first time I ever played Luigi's Mansion my friend let me borrow his gamecube but didn't bring a memory card. I finished the entire game and captured all the boos, then died against bowser
"I can't help but miss what the first game accomplished." Exactly! Me too. Between the first game, developed by Nintendo, and the second and third games, developed by Canadian designers, there's a vast difference in atmosphere and design. I just really love the look and feel of the original game, even to this day. I like Dark Moon and 3, but the atmosphere, tone, mood, and visuals are very different.
I agree there is something about that older art style that added to the experience. While 2 and 3 look fantastic, they are exactly what you’d expect when you think of a game in the mario universe. This is one of the reasons why the “new super mario bros” series felt so repetitive and burnt out after like 5 entries. The first game feels the most unique for many reasons and simply the way looks is a very important one in my opinion because neither of the sequels were able the capture that same magic. The original, although off put by the cartoonish nature of the mario universe, still often felt creepy at times. I remember as a kid there were parts of that game I was genuinely afraid of.
The Luigi's Mansion franchise was always more satisfying than games with Mario as the main star IMO. Mario's fault is that he hasn't any. Luigi, on the other hand, is cowardly and unsure of himself. You root for him and want to succeed, and as the player, you can help him. He's terrified and fighting for his life, but when he finds a key, beats a boss or finds one of his friends, he's genuinely happy and proud of himself. The endings to all three games are actually happy. They feel rewarding and have this "You did it!" vibe. The second and third games show this strongly. Dark Moon has Mario congratulate Luigi and call him "Number one!" which makes me understand exactly why they released the game to coincide with the Year of Luigi. Then, the third game one-ups that by not only showing the brothers hugging each other, but Peach hugs them as well. Nintendo has done a huge 180 in recent years with Luigi. Throughout the 2000s, he was a cowardly idiot, not as good as Mario and we were encouraged to point and laugh at him. As of 2013, he's a hero in his own right and believes in himself.
That's a good outlook from the Luigi perspective! I also feel that Luigi is the braver brother considering what he's going through to get to Mario and the others in each game by pushing through to the end of the 3rd game while Mario runs straight into king boo in the third game with thinking anything through. (both the first and third game are guilty of this)
You forgot to mention the best part of Luigi’s Mansion 2: Luigi! Luigi just radiates personality in the game and I think he’s even better in this one than the original.
Me: "Ah yes, this guy seems to know what he's talking about. A reputable review of Luigi's Mansion, indeed." _finds out that he captured Morty_ Me: *So you have chosen death.*
I think saying Luigi is a coward is a gross mischaracterization of him. In fact Luigi is extremely courageous and brave, facing terrifying and deadly ghosts all to save his brother. Bravery is not the absence of fear it’s facing those fears head on which is exactly what Luigi does. Plus let’s not act like it’s unreasonable to be afraid of literal ghosts.
He’s a coward in the same way Sam Tarly from GoT is a coward. He admits he scared, he feels bad about it, but he’s still gonna try his best and face down those fears.
When I played LM 3 I enjoyed collecting cash until the very end, not because I was chasing the rank at the end, but just because I enjoy playing games like these thoroughly. There's something really satisfying about squeezing every last coin out of a room by interacting with everything and finding all the hidden cash staches. Heck, I even enjoyed sucking up every single little prop that you could suck up, just for the heck of it.
exactly how I feel also, I found the obsession with rank or score in this analysis a bit odd, as the motivation for finding everything in a game like this is just... finding everything. That's also why I really like Dark Moon, it's so full of fun things to interact with and find, so full of interesting, almost oldschool PC adventure game puzzles... collecting gold was ALWAYS something extra for people interested in thoroughly exploring for its own sake, like getting 100% in Yoshi's Island (or the newer World games) or getting all 120 stars. You don't get 120 stars to see Yoshi, you get 120 stars to get 120 stars. It's why I don't enjoy The Completionist videos (among many other reasons lol), because it's this fundamental perspective that there should be some tangible reward, some kind of payday... when the reward is playing a fun game, and always has been.
I love the first for the same reason I think Star Fox 64 is the best in its respective series. The arcade element adds such a wonderfully fulfilled experience where each run give you the drive to do better than the last
Bring back the horror elements of Luigi's Mansion! I was disappointed that the rooms just stay at a consistent lighting no matter your progress. I loved the pure darkness of the original and the relief of the light when you succeeded. That missing in 3 is the biggest disappointment.
With that being said, can we get the original ghosts back? they all looked different and each one did something different to trip you up. Sometimes literally. The other ghosts in the sequels are just one of two different looking ghosts. Not to mention, the first and most common ghosts that you find don't look as interesting. It's like I'm fighting an army of Casper the friendly ghost. They don't interest me in the slightest.
@@gio9255 seriously! It took my friend just a few minutes to explain why the ghosts were so boring, and the second even he said that they looked like Casper only friendlier. I resonated with the first games ghosts more because aside from them actually looking different from each other, they looked just cute enough to be in a Mario game, while still being spooky enough to be in a light-hearted horror game. It's the same kind of effect when I look at the hoodlums in Rayman 3. They look scary enough to be a bad guy, but good enough to look like something you would fight in a Rayman setting. well I don't think the ghosts we have now or anything terrible, they just don't have the same appeal.
Holy shit I love the idea of an A rank getting you an actual explorable mansion. I'd even be okay if it were literally just a reskinned version of the normal mansion that you could just walk through and appreciate.
I remember, I legit believed as a kid the reward of unlocking all golden frames and getting an S rank would allow you to walk around the final rewarded mansion and was so disappointed to find out that was not actually the case. :(
Great discussion of the Luigi’s Mansion series, but I’m surprised you didn’t at least mention the 3DS remake of the original. It completely reworked the ghost gallery, added achievements, let you use Dark Moon's strobulb, and even included multiplayer with Gooigi (even if it didn't work that well).
While the remake was good, it ruined the atmosphere of the original game. Dust hardly exists now, the lighting isn't the same. It been awhile so I forget a lot, but I remember beating the 3ds game and just wanting to hop on the gamecube version again.
@@comradeweedity1648 I don't think the 3DS can register the same light and particle effects as the GameCube, which does lessen the atmosphere. But at least 3DS version is portable, I guess.
It was so satisfying finding Sue Pea's room in my second playthrough when I was a kid! I never was able to get A rank mansion until this year, absolutely one of my favourite games of all time easily.
10:29 I believe Van Gore is responsible solely for the non-portrait ghosts, while the other portrait ghosts were once alive like himself judging from the portraits hung around the house (in the Parlor there are portraits of Neville, Nana, Mr. Whirlwinda and Van Gore himself being the central figure) so I don't think Van Gore painted them, but are indeed likely to be his relatives. (Chauncey is a tricky one, he's supposed to have been "born a ghost", which implies either being a miscarriage, a stillborn or Neville and Lydia somehow had him while already ghosts... yet in the nursery he has a portrait depicting him while alive, a plot hole I guess?)
The Portrait Ghosts are all ghosts that E Gadd has captured over his years of ghost hunting. Van Gore's ghosts are indeed the non-portrait ghosts. Gold ghosts, grabbers, speedy spirits, twirlers, etc are all things he painted. Defeating Van Gore feels like a big accomplishment, because by the time you capture him, there are barely any ghosts left in the mansion. Regarding the mansion, it was created by the Boos. It has a fictional history that was created alongside the mansion, and it was made to fit all of the portrait ghosts they released.
I'm really happy how Luigis Mansion 3 turned out. imo. it combines the good parts of both the original luigis mansion and darkmoon. Its still not a perfekt game (theres still ways for luigis mansion 4. to get even better), but 3 is really the combination of the mechanics of 1 and 2 i was looking for
I love scarescraper. Most of my hours in Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3 are from Scarescraper. I just desperately wish that the next installment will bring back the varying scarescrapers found in 2.
The reason it's broken up into missions is that it's a portable title. Nintendo has said this. They wanted the game to let you pick it up, play for a few minutes, and feel like you've accomplished something. It's a core part of their mobile design.
It always chaps my ass when people complain about why a game is the way it is while completely ignoring the limitations or design elements of the console the game is on; for example: "Why is OoT 3D so bright when compared to the original N64 release, it looks bad." "The colours need to be brighter for the 3D function to work." "Why is Dark Moon divided into missions now? I don't like it." "Because it is a mobile game that is designed around playing it while out of the house in a potentially limited time frame, such as recess or a commute." etc. It's fine to not like these changes, as everyone is allowed to like why they like, but to just be all "Bah why is it like this, there is no reason to do this at all." when the actual reason is easily accessible with minor research bothers me a lot and negatively paints the rest of what the person has to say for me.
@@carlosflores4179 But with Luigi's Mansion you could just beat a single portrait ghost or Boo and then save and leave. That is accomplishing something and does not take much more time than a mission in Dark Moon, in many cases I think it might take less time. I think that Luigi's Mansion works better on the go because it is not restricted to saving between missions and instead lets you save almost any time. When on the go you never know when you will need to leave.
I can’t help but notice an *intense* desire for the sequels of luigis mansion 1 to be a mario galaxy 2 styled sequel from you, which I feel like is a great way to enjoy the sequels significantly less when all you’re thinking about is how much you wish you were playing luigis mansion 1.
I always thought I was the only person that did the "Play certain games at certain times" I always play majora's mask around november or december for whatever reason.
Doin my first run of breath of the wild and the varied environments are great. It snowed yesterday here so i decided to go explore the mountains. I associate gba with summer for some reason and always end up running thru some gba jrpgs in the summer
Luigi's Mansion 1 is still the best by far, primarily due to its unique, darker atmosphere which really set it apart from any other 'Mario game'. While the actual game play mechanics were arguably improved the sequels, I feel that the more slapstick tone and blocky, cartoony aesthetics removed much of what made the original game so special. Not that the sequels don't have their own charm - they certainly do (especially LM3), but I still prefer the tone/artstyle/environment/progression of the first game.
I think a big part of that is the soundtrack and sound design. the original used a lot of very high and low pitched techno-type sounds to achieve an unnerving atmosphere combined with the visuals, and I think Next Level could accomplish it quite easily through JUST the sound design, as their visuals aren't too far removed from the original to where I couldn't see it fitting. Really all they'd need is to make the ghosts more transparent and blurry and we're good
It's similar to metroid fusion or the basic moons in mario odyssey, but where lm 2 fails is A: E.gadd constantly interrupts you, killing all momentum and wasting time, when those should be what's prioritized in a mission structure. B: They can take up to half an hour to beat, which for what it's trying to accomplish, is too long.
All i can say is 1. Gold needs to be used more. upgrades, ranks and item shops(Art,music, ect). More ghost variety, 2. Scarescraper needs to stay. it just needs the gameplay settings of Darkmoon but the game mode of LM3, (I've made like 3 videos on this topic) 3.Bring back the hidden mansion. We're semi-big boys, we can take on a challenge Yeah i think that's everything on the top of my head. Good video all around
I've only recently got myself a Gamecube, and despite only hearing good thing about Luigi's Mansion 1, I constantly forget to try and get the game for myself. Your admiration and views of the series in this video has been a great reminder. Also, I might be mistaken, but congrats on getting your first sponsor! I know the average viewers annoyment of them knows no bounds, but I can still realize how big this is for a channel. Keep up the great content!
I got the game with my GameCube which I also got fairly recently I haven’t played much tho I was trying new games also got Metroid prime for Christmas I’m hyped to play it
It's getting harder to find a copy of the 1st game. When I found one it was more than $50. That was maybe 3 years ago. Maybe it has gone up since then.
I still find luigis mansion 2 rather charming, and I believe that the level structure works rather well when you're short on time. It does have problems, among other things that collectable rewards are bad, and money becomes more or less useless quite quickly as you easily get all the upgrades. Still, overall I find it to be a decent experience for the 3DS. Since when I use that device it's usually when I don't have the time to sit down and play for multiple hours. I might have a 30 min, before I got to do something else, and it works quite well for that purpose.
This was a perfect retrospective. Thanks for shining a flashlight on this series, I loved the original game as a kid, and I love it now. It was great to see you take such an in-depth look at all the games, share their strengths and weaknesses, and hear your personal feelings about them. I'll have to check out your other videos!
The first Luigi's Mansion is still one of my favorite games of all time. Was such a surprisingly amazing launch title. That alone made the GameCube launch the most memorable for one for me.
My wife and son got into this series because of Dark Moon, and though she barely games, she played that sucker obsessively until she was done with it. And she doesn't like the first one. She beat 3 in the same obsessive way when it came out. But the first one just isn't her thing. My son (he's 7) digs them all, but has certainly spent more time on the newer two. And my sweet little boy, my youngest son, loved Dark Moon, and we waited and waited for 3 to come out, but by the time it did, he had only a month and four days to live before the brain tumor he had been fighting got to be too much. He was a precious boy, so this series will always be special to me.
I’m glad I’m not the only one gets in the mood to play certain games during certain times of the year. Miitopia is my summer game and I think Cult of the Lamb is becoming my October game. 0:18
You sound like the fun teacher. formal but still understandable lectures, detailed but not boring, good and useful visuals and overall just feel like a fan ranting about something they like. We need more teachers like you and I love the channel in general definitely going to stick around
The idea I have for a 4th game in the series would be a haunted subway system... I just feel you can do a lot with it, and it fits the whole "these games take place in common haunted locations" thing
Personally I grew up with dark moon so Im heavily biased to love it more than either of the other two, but I still genuinely think the idea to make it a linear design was an excellent choice
"Do we really need ScareScraper?" I have suddenly lost respect for this video. JK, it's a good analysis. But I loooove LM2 ScareScraper, and they need to make LM4's more like it.
47:58 I was super impressed with the entire sand area. I remember walking in and thinking it was massive and then thought it was very creative how they trick you with making an inside environment look like an outside environment. Right down to the fans that gradually replace the sand and cause wind
No tune gets stuck in my head more often or more consistently than the Luigi's Mansion theme. It is PERFECT. (also don't mind me binging all your videos of games that I have played and commenting on them)
The reason for the mission structure in dark moon was to cater to the handheld gaming market, encouraging short sessions over long ones, it WAS made for a portable console after all.
The thing i liked the most in LM2 was actually scarescraper It was a fun way to play with your friends having a whole team was just an amazing experience
Man.. I used to play this game so much. It’s still to this day one of my favorite GameCube games. Growing up I felt like no one except for me and my bro even knew or cared about this game so I’m glad more people are talking about it. Sadly this game was pretty underrated. ._.)
this is such a great video. i first played luigi's mansion about four years ago, and decided to follow the rest of the series afterwards. it might honestly be one of my favorite game series ever, i have such positive feelings toward it, ESPECIALLY 3. im glad someone is spreading the good word about all these games, even the second one. my personal wish for a fourth game is for it to be in an abandoned amusement park. i think thats a pretty fun horror trope that could definitely make for some creative gameplay
Granted i played trough luigi's mansion 2 without completing it i'm now back to it as i gifted my girlfriend with a copy so we could play online which is still active with some players every once in while and she loved the game so much she 100% completed hers and challenged me to do the same which i'm now doing, the game is not as replayable in one go, but i sure don'te need to remember much to go back for completing it. I think it does a lot of the things a sequel should do arguably it does more thing right than wrong i now my girlfriend is going to buy the remake of the first one on 3ds and is excited to buy a switch eventualy to play through the 3rd one with me. Sufice to say in my expirence LM2 does what it needed to so keep this series relevant just like your video. It might not be the game i unpacked my first Nintendo home console to play, but it too has a place in my heart. Thanks for the video
I just played through the original Luigi's mansion for the first time recently and just beat dark moon for the first time this morning as well and i can't believe that it took me this long to play them because Luigi has been my favorite character from the mario universe for as long as i can remember. (honestly it might be because of how broken his backwards summersalt is in super mario 64 ds) they are both awesome games and I can't wait to play Luigi's mansion 3. But I will need to play them all a couple more times before I pick a favorite.
"Make the rebuilt mansion explorable" - this is exactly what I wanted as a kid. Would make playing well more rewarding, and offer some great post-game content.
I have to admit that I was hesitating to watch this video before arriving into 2 or 3 mins long from the start... But man, you managed to hook me up with nostalgia, I just played the first Luigi's Mansion, but I've never wanted to play the others... until now. This is the actual review great games (and their developers) deserve, is not about 5 mins of ranting or praising, but details and experiencing from start to finish. Thank you so much for these long reviews, with a touch of storytelling and great retrospective (I love the collective review format as for Metroid Prime). High quality here.
The scarescraper is some of the most fun I've had on the 3ds. It was a blast going through all the rooms and challenges and collecting all the alt costume ghosts and reading about them in the museum thing. It's understandable not everyone would enjoy such a mode, but it would be great shame to see it go.
You mentioned the combat being less complex and more streamlined, but I’d actually argue it’s more streamlined in its controls but actually more complex. Now when sucking a ghost, you only really worry about one analog stick which you either pull in the opposite direction (to suck ghosts and keep them still) or towards the ghost (to be taken for w ride we the ghost pulls you along at great speeds, with the risk of breaking the connection if dragged for too long). That, alongside the jump mechanic - which behaves very differently whether you’re moving towards or opposite to the ghost - and the sheer amount of ghosts and hazards a room can contain (especially on higher scarescrapper levels) makes the combat a lot more high octane and decision driven than the original (or 3 for that matter)
I think the biggest reason Dark Moon was so disappointing was the limitations of the 3DS. It was probably too hard to not get the game to run as smoothly as it does if the entire place was open at all times. Not only that, they clearly wanted to make each "level" add new things and new elements and probably didn't know how to naturally add that stuff in (ie. adding all the spiderwebs in Gloomy Manor) without it not making sense. Either way, I adore all three games in this series. It's easily one of my favorite series of all time. I hope we get a fourth installment sometime soon!! I ALSO hope we get some kind of remaster/bundle of Luigi's Mansion + Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon available on the Switch at some point. I was a little bummed the first game was only put on 3DS a few years ago. I would really love to have all three games on my Switch.
When this came out it felt to me, like Nintendo's answer for Resident Evil Remake lol. It just happened to come out on the same console around the same time, about a year prior so it just felt like that i guess. But it was still an excellent companion piece to RE Remake and RE Zero.
I think an amazing idea would be open world luigisi haunted towns or cities .. you get the idea.. every time you finish clearing a town it goes from being a spooky haunted area to its original happy colorful
i didn’t realise the community was disappointed by dark moon, overall i thought the story was enthralling, the areas were thematically perfect, it had a good balance of challenge with a more logical focus, and the ‘missions’ meant i could put it down when i wanted to, rather than when i could save
This was the first game I ever beat as a kid. This was the game I played the most when I used to have a tv, often playing it every year. This was a game that was so much more than a short Luigi game; it was a showcase of Nintendo's graphics, lighting, effects with dust, a new generation of gaming, transparent models, whatever sound programing is used for Luigi singing alongside the in-game music, and utilizing the Gamecubes's buttons effectively on their first try. I love this game so much, Luigi has become my favorite Mario character. Despite the silly designs of the ghosts, the rooms themselves are a major contrast to them. In the dark, these rooms are unwelcoming, but they're welcoming once all the ghosts are defeated. There may not be a big story in this, but if you bothered to talk to E. Gadd, read the ghost bios, scan the environment, and observe your surroundings: you'll discover just how carefully crafted this game was. Dark moon was good, but it drifted too far from what made LM special to me. LM3 is a step in the right direction, but despite it's major improvements... there is something missing in it that I just can't describe and I've played it 5 times trying to figure out what it was. My theory is that LM is a dark game that doesn't rely on blood or gore. Also, fuck that "NINTENDO" voice at the start. When I was a kid, I thought the demon voice was scary. I was forced to mute the tv because of that.
Another idea : adding more outside areas to roam like the front of the mansion, a garden or something and just to enter the mansion throught the front door, it's something i whished you could do in the first one !
Charles Martinet is an absolute treasure! I love the video he did for Great Big Story back in 2017 about being an actor and how he got the role of Mario, and watching him play Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 just having so much fun - it just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside! He seems like such a genuine sweet person!
This is probably the only video I’ve seen on TH-cam that explains the value of the first game and compares it to its successors while being completely objectionable and while I think the first is the best I do see the quirks of the other two. in short you made a great video to tide me over for my Luigi’s mansion video
32:49 I couldn’t figure out how to kill them as a kid for some reason, and Boos basically became a punishment for exploring. They’d lock me in a room, dooming me to death, and wasting all my meticulous progress!
One of my ideas about Luigi Mansion is that at some point you could get a rare item called Thunder Strike. A power up that only appear twice in the game. You can select it at anytime, but the item disappear once used. So basically the thunder strike is able to eliminate instantly any enemy, even a boss. But the down side is that, there is only 2 thunder strike in the whole game. And one boss is immune to this power up too. The item also can be sold for 1,000,000 gold each. So it might be an item that can be a game changer for both hardcore players and newbies.
I personally started playing Luigi’s Mansion games with Dark Moon so it holds a special place in my heart. But looking back at it after playing the other Luigi’s Mansion games it is a bit lack luster. I love all the mansions but the missions and the boss ghosts just being repeats is a bit disappointing
I think the point of the mission structure in Dark Moon was for kids taking the DS on car trips. They'd start up the game, get an instant reminder of what they needed to do from E. Gad, and have a sold 15/30-ish minute chunk of gameplay and be able to wrap up playing when they got to their destination. That said, people wanting to play long chunks of it at a time would definitely get annoyed being beamed in and out of the mansion constantly.

While I don't like the mission structure and feel it was completely avoidable I do see the logic behind it
the reason Luigis mansion 2/Dark moon was split into missions was" the nature of the portable console it was developed for"

The Luigi's Mansion franchise was always more satisfying than games with Mario as the main star IMO. Mario's fault is that he hasn't any. Luigi, on the other hand, is cowardly and unsure of himself. You root for him and want to succeed, and as the player, you can help him.

You don’t think falling asleep while the Princess is kidnapped is a fault?
@@KobeLoverTatum Who hasn't done that at least once?
That's a good outlook from the Luigi perspective!
I also feel that Luigi is the braver brother considering what he's going through to get to Mario and the others in each game by pushing through to the end of the 3rd game while Mario runs straight into king boo in the third game with thinking anything through. (both the first and third game are guilty of this)
"I'm too shy, besides I'm making spaghetti and meatballs" 🥺
You forgot to mention the best part of Luigi’s Mansion 2: Luigi!
Luigi just radiates personality in the game and I think he’s even better in this one than the original.
Fr dude. This game would not be as unique as it was if it was Mario’s mansion or something
Wario mansion😳
it's easily the best of the 3
Next Level not only cares about animation, but actually know how to do it *right*.

_finds out that he captured Morty_
Me: *So you have chosen death.*

@@Zipped44 You dare utter such words in this christian household?
I love the first for the same reason I think Star Fox 64 is the best in its respective series. The arcade element adds such a wonderfully fulfilled experience where each run give you the drive to do better than the last
Bring back the horror elements of Luigi's Mansion! I was disappointed that the rooms just stay at a consistent lighting no matter your progress. I loved the pure darkness of the original and the relief of the light when you succeeded. That missing in 3 is the biggest disappointment.
@Naram-Sin of Akkad that's because both Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3 tried to be less scary than the first game, and that's not going to change.
Tbf there were a few sections in the game that were creepy or tense. Particularly the ship section when the ship heads towards the shore
@@ItsRetroPlanet bro a lot of them looked similar. What are you on?

Holy shit I love the idea of an A rank getting you an actual explorable mansion. I'd even be okay if it were literally just a reskinned version of the normal mansion that you could just walk through and appreciate.
Like imagine exploring the hotel and the themed floors but before it all went spooky mode. That’d be awesome.
I remember, I legit believed as a kid the reward of unlocking all golden frames and getting an S rank would allow you to walk around the final rewarded mansion and was so disappointed to find out that was not actually the case. :(
@@Zet237yt if only they did something like that with the 3ds remake
Great discussion of the Luigi’s Mansion series, but I’m surprised you didn’t at least mention the 3DS remake of the original.
It completely reworked the ghost gallery, added achievements, let you use Dark Moon's strobulb, and even included multiplayer with Gooigi (even if it didn't work that well).
Right? Like the hidden mansion is awesome in the remake!
@@Greenplumber64 It sure was, not to mention the fact that in the original, it wasn't even in the American version.
But at least 3DS version is portable, I guess.
yeah! I wonder why?
It was so satisfying finding Sue Pea's room in my second playthrough when I was a kid! I never was able to get A rank mansion until this year, absolutely one of my favourite games of all time easily.
But this, does put a smile on my face.
😌
Alright scrotum chin.
Lol I laugh at the story or Luigi making meatballs each time. Just the way Charles delivers it is pure gold, let alone the inflection of his voice
I would say that Chauncey just got sick really bad. A bad illness and he passed on...
It would need an online mode tho, or not many people can play it

"When there's something strange In the neighborhood , who you gonna call ,LUIGI"!!!
No you call E.Gadd. Luigi doesn't have any interest in catching ghosts. He just does it when hes forced to.
Crrrreeeeeeaak!
Luigi:”H-Hello?”
You're right. Charles is such a lovable sweetheart. He's so precious. Without him. Mario just wouldn't be the same.
The reason it's broken up into missions is that it's a portable title. Nintendo has said this. They wanted the game to let you pick it up, play for a few minutes, and feel like you've accomplished something. It's a core part of their mobile design.
The same happened to Metroid fusion and zero mission, that why those games have waypoints
44:05 I think the boss music nice, and Luigi having to let something he KNOWS is getting closer and sincerely wants him dead is beautifully thematic.
Majora's Mask starts out as a Halloween game. And by the time your journal is full, it ends as a Thanksgiving game.
That's because both Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3 tried to be less scary than the first game, and that's not going to change, it is an intentional change.
@@wogardrodriguez9699 i see you saying this on multiple comments. We get that. Wede just saying we wish they didn't.
Really all they'd need is to make the ghosts more transparent and blurry and we're good
Luigi Mansion 3 is my favorite. Love the atmosphere, design and music. Luigi's expressions are the best.
Have you played the original on GameCube or only the 3ds remake?
@@Shittyrapper I have not, but I heard good things from the other two Luigi Mansion Games
Missions aren't just because it's on 3ds ?
I always though it was because of the portable (shorter sessions) format
Yes, the devs said it themselves
It's similar to metroid fusion or the basic moons in mario odyssey, but where lm 2 fails is
A: E.gadd constantly interrupts you, killing all momentum and wasting time, when those should be what's prioritized in a mission structure.
B: They can take up to half an hour to beat, which for what it's trying to accomplish, is too long.
All i can say is 1. Gold needs to be used more. upgrades, ranks and item shops(Art,music, ect). More ghost variety,
2. Scarescraper needs to stay. it just needs the gameplay settings of Darkmoon but the game mode of LM3, (I've made like 3 videos on this topic)
3.Bring back the hidden mansion. We're semi-big boys, we can take on a challenge
Yeah i think that's everything on the top of my head. Good video all around

There’s a special place in my heart for the first Luigis Mansion. It’s the only game I got to play with my mom before she passed, miss you mommy ❤️
You should it's a great game! I dare you to not get addicted
I got the game with my GameCube which I also got fairly recently I haven’t played much tho I was trying new games also got Metroid prime for Christmas I’m hyped to play it
Have you gotten it yet?
It's getting harder to find a copy of the 1st game. When I found one it was more than $50. That was maybe 3 years ago. Maybe it has gone up since then.
Literally one of my favourite game series’ of all time. So underrated
Damn you make these pretty fast and they're still great
I still find luigis mansion 2 rather charming, and I believe that the level structure works rather well when you're short on time.
God bless him. he is in heaven now
I’m glad I’m not the only one gets in the mood to play certain games during certain times of the year.
THIS MAN ATTACKED MY SCARESCRAPER HOW DARE YOU
It's always a treat whenever Liam uploads a retrospective.
"Do we really need ScareScraper?"
I have suddenly lost respect for this video.
(also don't mind me binging all your videos of games that I have played and commenting on them)
I just want to say thank you for shouting out how awesome mario strikers is. It needs more appreciation.
I'll never stop singing the praises of LM3, genuinely one of the best games ever made
The reason for the mission structure in dark moon was to cater to the handheld gaming market, encouraging short sessions over long ones, it WAS made for a portable console after all.
Thank you for revisiting these classics
The thing i liked the most in LM2 was actually scarescraper
It was a fun way to play with your friends having a whole team was just an amazing experience
Man.. I used to play this game so much. It’s still to this day one of my favorite GameCube games. Growing up I felt like no one except for me and my bro even knew or cared about this game so I’m glad more people are talking about it. Sadly this game was pretty underrated. ._.)

I play this game so much. It's so replayable and fun. Glad you're giving it the attention it deserves.
this is such a great video. i first played luigi's mansion about four years ago, and decided to follow the rest of the series afterwards. it might honestly be one of my favorite game series ever, i have such positive feelings toward it, ESPECIALLY 3. im glad someone is spreading the good word about all these games, even the second one.
my personal wish for a fourth game is for it to be in an abandoned amusement park. i think thats a pretty fun horror trope that could definitely make for some creative gameplay

I remember that I lost my GameCube copy of this game (it's still missing).
I'll always miss it. Top 10 Nintendo games.
I'm glad you're still uploading great content, Liam! Can't wait to dig into this one, these are great to listen to while I'm cooking lol
Luigi's Mansion: where the idiom "MY HEART CAN'T TAKE ANY MORE OF THIS!" is made literal.
10:42 For a second there, I thought you said "Waluigi's Mansion", and I got excited.

I was forced to mute the tv because of that.
luigi's mansion is a creepy game, the sequels tried to be more familiar.
graphically, all luigi's mansions games are stunning
Man I gotta say if child me saw this gameplay I would be awestriken at how effortless you make it look
Olimar from pikmin would absolutely love playing Luigi’s mansion just because of the treasure collection
