Just finished Super Metroid which while not my favorite game ever has to be in the top 5 best games ever made. It was incredible. I am really excited to get started on the Prime series.
@@ClumpypooCP Take _Time Crisis_ combine it with _Virtua Cop_ and _The House of the Dead_ , add in a ton of action movie tropes, and you pretty much have _Johnny Nero Action Hero_ . The game might not be original, but it makes up for it by doing it's own thing and it sure is fun as hell. The plot involves the alien empire, cursed mummies, and Wild West undead zombies/ghosts, but who cares about the plot, anyway? We're here to blow up sticky dynamites! _Johnny Nero Action Hero_ was created in 2004 by the American arcade game company Play Mechanix (of Big Buck Hunter, founded by former Midway game designer George Petro).
@@craigpegasus Johnny Nero had two guns mode. I saw the hilarious E3 2014 trailer of Sunset Overdrive but I missed out on the actual game till' 8 years later.
This is the game that singlehandedly got me back into Console gaming in 2002. Before this all I had was an Atari 7800, NES, SNES and Gameboy that I hadn't touched in years, I was exclusively a PC Gamer. I got my Gamecube *just* for this game. Ever since then my collection has grown. I now have 30+ consoles and handhelds, hundreds of games including every Metroid game with Packaging and memorabilia. (And a Sega 32x!!)
Do you know how long I've waited for a review of this... :D. THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THAT IT'S NOT A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. You even said it's main focus is exploration. That's why Nintendo called it a first person adventure game. :D. Not to be critical but it's pronounces "Zeb-es". -goes off to go through Prime for the 2nd time-
Metroid Prime is a great game in general, one of the best, if not the best game Ninty had on the GC. When I first heard about them making a new Metroid game on GC, at first I was like, "about time!", missed Metroid on N64. And then hearing it was gonna be fps I was quite skeptical at first. But then playing it straight away I thought, yeh this is good, the gameplay engine just felt solid, its like getting into a new sports car or something, you just know its gonna be good when you get that feel for the gameplay mechanical, how you can move, shoot and strafe all that and I felt that smoothness straightaway playing Prime. The story was very good too, because I like how they cleverly set it between the classic Metroid's 1 and 2, even just little things like Samus ship, can kind of see that evolution. I luvd the exploration of the game and how you could scan creatures, and the fps really worked well, they really cleverly brought Metroid into the 3D era of gaming in a beautiful way where many other classic games struggled and even took alot longer. I think Ninty need to keep this gameplay from the Prime series, maybe combine in with Other M's classic side-scrolling style because that was really nice too. I just guess Ninty's main problem with the Metroid series now is the main antagonist where to go with the "Metroids" themselves now.
Yep. Definitely gonna have to give this one a shot. At first glance it did look like just another FPS with a Metroid skin, but after watching some more gameplay, I'm pretty much sold.
oh yeah that scene sure will haunt me forever, when I first played this I didn't even know the difference between the Playstation and the GC it was just the console with WindWaker and Metroid Prime, magic... P.S. ganpey yokoy, lol
Metroid Prime is one of the life changers when it comes to my gaming life. Recently playing through this beauty twice in a row, it got me into Metroid, and the care if this game is just outstanding.
To me, Metroid Prime represents the future of video games. There are very few video games, even those with first person perspectives that can match the sheer level of immersion you feel when you play prime. The whole time you are playing Prime, you feel like you really are Samus and that you are looking through the visor as she is. It is an incredible feeling that very few can replicate and that feeling is only enhanced with the edition of the Wiimout in it's Wii port.
i so hear you!!! have begun Prime 3, but wish i could go back and do 1 and 2 over after erasing from the brain first.... such great games! to me- Metroid games are just the sci-fi version of Zelda games. call me crazy, but they feel like the same game to me, just different skins and themes.
Metroid Prime is my favourite game of all time, so I am SO glad you reviewed this masterpiece. I never thought of it this way, but you're absolutely right: This game DOES do a remarkable job of making Samus more human - much more effective and classy than the histrionics Other M tried to pass off as character development.
@Grippli78 two are for gamecube, one is for Wii, but if you prefer wii pointer controlls, get the trilogy, but if you prefer regualr non pointing controls, buy each seperately.
@iscrewy The gamecube controller was the single best controller I've ever held. Nothing sits in my hands that well except the keyboard and mouse for shooters.
Btw Metroid Prime trilogy on the wii u eshop one week only starting today! Already have it downloaded and about to play. Just wanted to hear your Nintendo poetry first.
Well, a massive amount of skepticism was built around the game during its development, that it was simply a generic space FPS with a Metroid skin on. Little did people know, MP turned out great. There's still people today who don't play Prime because it simply looks like an FPS.
I have a question for you, do you think that this game should be remastered like what 343 did with halo combat evolved and be placed as an exclusive for the Wii U?
Good review. This game is a classic. But the back tracking does get pretty bad in the later parts of the game when you need to hunt down the 12 artifacts.
One of my favorite games of all time & one of the best games ever made. This game blew me away on how well the game can structured perfectly in a 3D world. I know this may sound weird, but I'm glad it didn't get release on the N64 because if it did, it would've age badly compared to the likes of say Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time. Not that doesn't mean they're bad games or any bad stuff like that. It's just this game did it zo much better & being on the Gamecube is perfect to modernize the next generation console. This game is just purely breathtaking in zo many ways. I love this game.
I may have been a sega fan back in the day (And I still am now), but I have to agree with Ammer. Reduron here, Nintendo has made some pretty amazing stuff.
Damn I wish I were more hardcore as a kid. I played Prime 2, got stuck, and gave up. I went off to play Zelda. I had only rented it as part of the trilogy and was checking it out. DAMN
@SuburbanScourging it's a Sci-Fi, FPS & Action-Adventure......it may not focus on FPS but you play it from the first person and you shoot....so it still can be catorgarized as a FPS
Congrats for the review Derek you really explained what the game is without holding back any info even though I think this review was more focused for fans because of the way you compare with the older metroids but good review thumb up for you:) And @BRGxRandomHero I understand your opinionThe first metroid game I played was super metroid and when I played prime I felt the same way but you need to stick with the game a little to understand that it is good.Anyway Metroid Other M is coming so :D
This game almost has HD like qualities when played on an original CRT. It really looks sharp. Only games that might look better on Gamecube are Metroid Prime 2 or Twilight Princess, both which came out years later. The only issue I have with this game is all the scanning, which is cool but I think it throws off the pacing because there's so much of it.
The first Metroid game I have ever played. This is a cinematic masterpiece. The Metroid Prime Trilogy was amazing. The 3 games with wii motion controlls feel perfect, but at times I wish I could play this with a GC controller, or even a classic controller because holding a wii remote and nunchuck for aiming can get tiresome after a few hours.
And something else, good review, i agree with you, this metroid game its amazing, i have never played the other metroids which would make prime my first metroid game, and what a good way to start, the graphics and the concepts are amazing, the unique style of the game with that true feeling of being lost and alone, and the amazing enviroments and fights, its just a complete game and i love the series, nice review.
@Grippli78 Since the trilogy was a limited release, it may be difficult to find it for a good price now, but if you can, definitly get the trilogy. The controls are much better suited for the Wii, and it will be consistant. Plus, you won't have to worry about GCN Memery cards getting corrupted. (A lot of mine have been getting corrupted lately)
@GamerNinjaX Ok if that's word for word, I meant that Metroid is the Halo of the Wii, and I think I said that a long time ago :P, the games are actually very dissimilar the more I think about it.
This game was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING AMAZING when it first came out, the attention to detail was phenomenal. Even today, it's still fantastic, it is just soooo good. Oh my god... So good....
@iscrewy Haha,so true. but the ps2 controller is uncomfortable for me because the grips are to short and the analog sticks are awkward. you must admit the triggers on the gamecube and 360 are amazing compared to the dualshock.
Not many games freaked the shit outta me to such an extent that i sometimes wasn't in the mood for such thrill. This wasn't a bad thing though. It was the foreshadowy music of those goddamn space pirates that scared me so much. This was one of the many things that made the game a true masterpiece.
@GamerNinjaX Metroid as a franchise came long before Halo yes, however the original Metroid Prime was release almost exactly a year after Halo: Combat Evolved, so it depends on what exactly you're saying
get a wii version - better controls. I bought wiiu few weeks ago to see this game at its best. Wiiu supports all wii games and they look a little bit better.
Should I play this game? I love the original Metroid for the NES (one of my favorite games), but for whatever reason, I've never really been able to enjoy Super Metroid, but I do love Symphony of the Night (one of my other favorite games).
