    *this concept was coined back in late 70's either Playboy or Hotrod Magazine or Car Magazine* the artists wrote that a carburetor spacer added horsepower then the other picture had showed car with high stack of spacers just like you did. either you found the article or creative people think alike and coincidentally/accidentally you thought of the same thing. back then i owned a '66 Corvertible Corvette. Super Shops was my racing place to go and that's where i learned about it. *Thanx for proving that theory*

  • @craigmclean8260
    @craigmclean8260 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    This is hilarious, and it works! Do you need a vacuum gauge or a church organ pipe-tuner to dial this in? The zip-ties made me think you had installed those climbing spikes like they used to put on utility poles, in order to facilitate unsticking a stuck choke!

    The throttle response was better than I thought it would be!

    • @turkeyboyjh1
      @turkeyboyjh1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Longer intakes usually improve response because of the large vacuum chamber the intake acts like

    • @NBSV1
      @NBSV1 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@turkeyboyjh1 A large vacuum chamber isn’t what you want for quick throttle response. You have to fill that chamber with air before the engine can pull it in and respond.
      Short runner individual intakes are the quickest throttle response, but they tend be mostly for high rpm power.

    • @limprooster3253
      @limprooster3253 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@turkeyboyjh1 This isn't an intake. It's a carb spacer. He's still using the dual plane underneath it, so the runner length didn't change. The scavenging is going to be pretty much the same. Now if he did this again using an EFI lower intake, so that he had 8 separate pipes converging to one at the carb, then it'd be an intake with 5' runners.

    A friend adapted a 3 bbl Weber from a Porsche 911 to a custom 96” Harley Shovelhead. He had to do a fair amount of tuning after completing fabrication of an intake that mounted to an S&S Super G manifold.
    Worked out pretty well. Only issue he wasn’t able to overcome was the lack of a choke on the Weber, requiring liberal use of the accelerator pump for starting, and an unusually long warmup period.

Still, it's ridiculous which means it was time well spent. Well, your time not mine...

    Also want to see this dyno tested, interested in how the thermodynamics work, the cooling effect of the long intake could improve density and give more power? Not practical in this form but food for thought…

    Hilarious experiment. That works way better then I though it would. Love Mavericks. My first car was a 74 Maverick with 302 and currently own a 69.5/early 70 Maverick.
