I just love the grittiness and details of older Gundam and all of mech anime from the late 80's. You can watch scenes like this hundreds of times and still find something new in it
One of my issues with a lot of animated shows in general. Very few have the weight and character that the 80s and 90s animation had. (And I am aware that this is harder to animate, but it definitely pays off)

Part of the reason why late 80s into early 90s OVAs were so good was they had way bigger budgets than the do now. Japan has been in a recession for more or less the last 30 years so budgets on animation have shrunk considerably.

The one kill (that was a Zeon) the entire Feddie force got was somehow a long range shot with a machine gun too! All the GMs should've been shooting from that range because it looked like the bullets were ricocheting when up close. ;p
Pretty sure that wasn't a penetrating round either. I mean...that's a 90mm autocannon. If that kind of shell had made it through the pilot wouldn't have had a hole in him, he'd have been erased from existence :P. So what killed him was some kind of splinter, probably from spalling rather than anything actually getting through his armor.
Did one of the first GM CDs to deploy get wasted before it could fire a shot? Asking because it appeared to be using the bullpup machine gun instead of the side feeds every other GM was using. That bullpup would make a different sound, wouldn't it?
These guys may have gotten ROFLstomped in the anime but in Battle Operation 2; they're pretty good. Especially with the fast-firing machine gun they have which can shred people.
They can kill any player legs but shield strength is to be desired since they not last long against an Agg's Drills (getting drilled by it not even funny assuming you didn't get staggered or stun first)
yknow I just noticed, probably thanks to the fact it’s an OVA, but it’s wonderful how the mobile suits don’t just spontaneously combust in this sequence unlike most of the mainline shows. really adds to the literal impact when they go down as well as seeing the smoldering metal corpses as aftermath. really runs with 0080’s theme of more subtle vs the mainline TV’s flashiness in comparison. the series give us the grand huge big pictures and dramas while the OVAs give us time to slowdown and flesh out the lesser seen and the greater context while being in-depth, it’s a perfect relationship really. also prob helps they only need to fund a handful of episodes vs like 50 but I digress lol
Even now they are still repeating the mistakes lol. (A recent UC example I can think of is Doans Island with the headshot causing the whole GM to explode)

Yeah. Never noticed till now but that last dead GM was holding the Bullpup 90mm Rifle we see other GMs use in the past while the rest of the Cold District GMs used some sort of new Rifle we have never seen before...
When slowing it down, we also see a GM being destroyed that is tan, rather than the light grey. I think they snuck in a GM Command Edit: Yeah we see the head and upper torso of a GM Command before it changes into the Cold District type that gets used as a shield
0080 made me realise that when people talk about an anime being "gritty" and "devoid of plot armor", it usually means the plot armor just switched sides.

@@Larogg also the byarlant is shown to be super OP compared to how it was in Zeta. Even with additions, it shouldn't have been able to wreck a dozen + suits so easily
@@alexknudsen2759 Note that the Zekes were using OYW era suits, which were outclassed even by Hi-Zaks. A decent pilot should have little trouble taking down a force of OYW suits in pretty much any Zeta grunt suit. It is basically akin to throwing a mob of T-34's against a Challenger II.

It's really annoying that I found out fairly recently that these GMs are supposed to be one of the highest performance units on Earth and YET because GMs they got completely slaughtered like redshirts.
Because the Federation had shit Mobile Suit pilots. So it's no wonder a Special Forces team in high-performance mobile suits would make short work of them in close combat. It isn't until later in the war when the situation changes and the Federation starts fielding more battle-hardened veterans. And funnily enough, this is the exact scenario for the Gelgoog on the Zeon side. As most Zeon veterans had been attritioned by the end of the OYW and they were throwing whoever they could into the Gelgoogs.
Piloting skills were definitely a factor here. For all we know the pilots stationed here only have experience piloting in earth's gravity while the cyclops team is a highly specialized infiltration unit with experience fighting on land sea and space.
0:12 man that detail right there. messed up way to go in middle of war. if ppl cant tell: the hygog shot the wrists of the gm unit making it dangle while the trigger is on the gun. the gun twisting around as the shots go off that one of the stray shots turn and shot through the pilot cockpit so he died from his own gunshot. you can see the frame when the cockpit is perfectly fine with next it got shot through.
Imagine all the other pilots are proud of how bravely they died in heaven and this one dude who shot his own cockpit...at that point even God would bully him
It’s like a GBO2 basic match except all of Team B starts with permanently damaged legs, permanently overheated thrusters, and the first guy shot down is spamming “My God!” for the entire match.
When I was a little kid in the early 2000s I had Gundam 0080 on VHS. I would rewind this scene an the space battle outside the colony over and over. Eventually the tape wore out and the VHS war ruined lol.
Honestly tragic show of ability for a GM with great overall specs(at the time). I still think the rigid-ness of their stances shows how complacent the federation quickly devolved after the conflict.
Years later but I’ll reply any way. The feds always had stuff with good specs but they’re is just so few good pilots to ever take advantage of it. It just seems like a constant thing with the federation is that they have the tech but never properly trained their pilots.

@@ilhamshobri461 You have a point there, but this GM red shirt syndrome even persisted well passed the OYW. Future Federation mobile suits outside of a few exceptions tend to perform poorly against any Zeon MS.
@@danielchew8739 its because of the Zeon simp mentality of many scriptwriters in Uc series. To make the Main Gundam impressive and interesting, they make the regular GM soldier look bad in order to redeem Zeon by making their grunts shine. This pattern is present in almost every Gundam series except for Zeta (because the sides are mixed), some rare parts of Unicorn, and Victory (where the old EFSF Javelins starts by the end of the series to make draws and kills on 30 newer Zoloat)
Plus the Zeons have the advantage of surprise. What I want to know is why there's no Sonar line or minefields to prevent the Zeon intrusion. Then all the Cold Districts have to do is shred them once their damaged hulks emerge
Those Cold Districts were made to combat the Doms fast speeds. But because most Feddie pilots were green the machines were never used to their full potential
I wish zeon would take more losses. Just remember, aces go down quickly when a situation changes. First day of ww2, future highest scoring nazi ace gets shot down by a pole for example. This is just zeon wanking
I like this MS. This GM should have had a snowboard pack for faster mobility on snow and ice like the Polar Bears MS in Gundam X. And the design should have padded on joints similar to GM thundrrbolt.
One thing to note, at the end, the entire base went silent... an entire security force wiped out just trying to allow the prototype New Type mobile suit to escape into space... the silence... MS Gundam: 0800 was a beautiful show, it was also a very brutal show in every way imaginable when it comes to war -_-
My most used suit in GBO2. I make this thing work, nothing better than tearing up some melee obsessed attacker then seeing him fall on his knees after dashing. God I adore this thing, oddly I have never taken on a Hy-Gogg with it yet lol.
Funny, this is my second personal favourite gm after the gm command space type and before the gm sniper 2, I love playing as all of them but this really just has a thing to itself
In Gather Beat 2, this part of the story has Yu Kajima's squad and Christina Mackenzie in the GMs. I wouldn't be surprised if the GM pilot that killed Andy was none other than the Blue Death himself.
Noticed the Hygogg beam weapons, while fast firing, don't seem to have the same penetrating power we're used to seeing from beam weapons. it's only when it's brutally up close does it have enough penetrating power. I guess that rate of fire is the trade off. Though the Hygogg has a much higher output than the original Gogg which sported TWO beam cannons. It makes you wonder why they put such a high output reactor, but such weak beam weapons. It could also be an animation aesthetic. 0080 you don't see suits combust into pink clouds like we do in 0083 and other shows. Instead you see them take visible damage. Becoming disable either due to pilot death or mechanical failure. Something I wish we would see more of. Less one shot instant explosions.
Those pilots probably recruited and never saw combat, so even with cold district mod they cannot handle those elite MS. Then again, those Zeon Pilots can snuggle one MS in and rekt Grey Phantoms whole crew of MS, so it's saying something that they managed to kill one while pressured by 4 Aquatic MS.
they didn't stand a chance... they only have the maneuver armor lvl 1, while the hy-gogg has maneuver armor lvl 1 + emergency evasion system lvl 2. the cold districts only has the 1 quick stagger weapon with the grenade launcher, while the hy-gogg has 3 (big torpedo, chest missiles, and beams if enough connect.)
There were a total of four mobile suits attacking the base. Three of them were Hy-goggs, not Kapools, and the fourth was an upgraded version of the Z'gok called the Z'gok-E. Though most of the destruction was just caused by two of the Hy-goggs who were meant to be a distraction while the other two mobile suits infiltrated the base to destroy the Alex.

Feddies had the best beam weapons but only gave gm swords. Use those resources for rifles instead or bazooka ammo.

Iron Blooded Orphans is a good example of this, the villains on that last season had some thick protagonist plot armor.

Originally most of the 0080 suits were written to just be visual updates of old designs. This was retroactively changed later.

後期生産型のジムのバリエーション機の1つ
名前の通り寒冷地での運用に特化しているが、特に画期的な技術は使用されておらず、既存の航空機などのノウハウを利用した氷結、耐寒処理が施されている。
そのため性能は特に特徴がない。強いて言えばグレネードランチャー付きの専用の90mmマシンガンがあることくらいである。
劇中でも踏んだり蹴ったりの散々な始末だったが、シャトル護衛機は捨て身の護衛でアンディィィィすることに成功した。
余談だが某51vs51のクソゲーでは劇中とは打って変わって強機体であり、アンディィィィィを量産しジオン軍から多大なヘイトを買った。

「アンディィィすることに成功した」「アンディィィを量産」は草。まあ、初代ジムより劣る武装で連邦のパイロット達もおそらく熟練していない中、手練れ揃いのサイクロプス隊、しかもズゴックEやハイゴッグのような量産する気がないとしか言い様のない超高性能機による襲撃に対しアンディィィだけ成功して全滅したとはいえ、必死の防衛で発射までアレックスを守りきりサイクロプス隊の作戦を失敗させたのだから大したものだ。

（4月から訓練開始、ジムの本格的量産10月から）
足元の仲間踏む危険考えながらこれで戦えってなったらこうなる
…ってか転んだりぶつけたり事故ったりしてないだけ凄いと思うの
ゆーても、サイクロプス隊だって地球に来てホンの短い期間だろうし、水陸両用機もそんな長い期間乗ってる訳ないから初心者同然だろうに(´・ω・`)

Just brutal. The guys in the suits when they became disabled were probably just hoping in darkness to be okay before getting finished off.
It always surprised me the pilots didn't bail out the moment their machine was immobilized.

@@ilhamshobri461 You have a point there, but this GM red shirt syndrome even persisted well passed the OYW. Future Federation mobile suits outside of a few exceptions tend to perform poorly against any Zeon MS.
@@danielchew8739 its because of the Zeon simp mentality of many scriptwriters in Uc series. To make the Main Gundam impressive and interesting, they make the regular GM soldier look bad in order to redeem Zeon by making their grunts shine. This pattern is present in almost every Gundam series except for Zeta (because the sides are mixed), some rare parts of Unicorn, and Victory (where the old EFSF Javelins starts by the end of the series to make draws and kills on 30 newer Zoloat)
Plus the Zeons have the advantage of surprise. What I want to know is why there's no Sonar line or minefields to prevent the Zeon intrusion.
Then all the Cold Districts have to do is shred them once their damaged hulks emerge

We do get the MG GM Command Cold District but its a P-Bandai. The HGUC is seriously outdated. RG is low chance...

Those Cold Districts were made to combat the Doms fast speeds. But because most Feddie pilots were green the machines were never used to their full potential
Doms lack of the monoeye vision and both Fulldrive leg thruster when the one got malfunctioning all system jammed automatically
I wish zeon would take more losses. Just remember, aces go down quickly when a situation changes.

I like this MS. This GM should have had a snowboard pack for faster mobility on snow and ice like the Polar Bears MS in Gundam X. And the design should have padded on joints similar to GM thundrrbolt.

One thing to note, at the end, the entire base went silent... an entire security force wiped out just trying to allow the prototype New Type mobile suit to escape into space... the silence... MS Gundam: 0800 was a beautiful show, it was also a very brutal show in every way imaginable when it comes to war -_-

Funny, this is my second personal favourite gm after the gm command space type and before the gm sniper 2, I love playing as all of them but this really just has a thing to itself

Gundam Operation GM`s machinegun is amazing
Noticed the Hygogg beam weapons, while fast firing, don't seem to have the same penetrating power we're used to seeing from beam weapons. it's only when it's brutally up close does it have enough penetrating power. I guess that rate of fire is the trade off. Though the Hygogg has a much higher output than the original Gogg which sported TWO beam cannons. It makes you wonder why they put such a high output reactor, but such weak beam weapons. It could also be an animation aesthetic. 0080 you don't see suits combust into pink clouds like we do in 0083 and other shows. Instead you see them take visible damage. Becoming disable either due to pilot death or mechanical failure. Something I wish we would see more of. Less one shot instant explosions.

このジム、D型を寒冷地仕様にチューンしただけで別に専用モデルというわけではないという解釈もありますよね

Those pilots probably recruited and never saw combat, so even with cold district mod they cannot handle those elite MS.
Then again, those Zeon Pilots can snuggle one MS in and rekt Grey Phantoms whole crew of MS, so it's saying something that they managed to kill one while pressured by 4 Aquatic MS.

when you play Gundam Battle Operation 2 cost team unit 250 vs 350
they didn't stand a chance... they only have the maneuver armor lvl 1, while the hy-gogg has maneuver armor lvl 1 + emergency evasion system lvl 2. the cold districts only has the 1 quick stagger weapon with the grenade launcher, while the hy-gogg has 3 (big torpedo, chest missiles, and beams if enough connect.)

I like how only two enemy mobile suits are responsible of this damage to base a kapool and Z'gok
There were a total of four mobile suits attacking the base. Three of them were Hy-goggs, not Kapools, and the fourth was an upgraded version of the Z'gok called the Z'gok-E. Though most of the destruction was just caused by two of the Hy-goggs who were meant to be a distraction while the other two mobile suits infiltrated the base to destroy the Alex.
The fact the Cold District type has the same power of a DOM....
I find it both morbidly funny and a little sad that 90% of the time we see these guys they’re being massacred
