I remember that goal. My wife, girlfriend at the time. Both mad Arsenal fans. Watching it at her pooky flat on a small portable TV. Jumping on her bed when it went in. I had taken her to an Arsenal game that season at Highbury. He went to take a corner at the North Bank. It was silent and you could hear when her shouting in Birmingham accent "I luv you Denis". The whole crowd starting to laugh, Denis even paused before he took tne corner. Good times!.

To be honest, I think Zidane's style is really ugly with his big body and his not very subtle foot movements. I don't get why everybody thinks it's so pretty. I enjoy Santi Cazorla, Özil, Bergkamp, Luc Nilis, Ronaldinho, Messi... but Zidane.. no.

You like Nilis but not Zidane 😂
Even to put Ozil ahead of Zidane is embarrassing. Ozil's completely 1 footed how is that nice to watch it's the opposite I hate watching players who can't play the game at 360 degree angle. 1-footed players always make the wrong decisions, the easy no risk no gain passes or pass up the opportunity to pass/cross/shoot fullstop & lose the ball or waste the chance.

It certainly was an awesome reaction, but for this particular goal the original Dutch commentary by Jack van Gelder beats everything. :) :)
      th-cam.com/video/XsZkCFoqSBs/w-d-xo.html
You'll find the translation in the comments. Just before the pass made by De Boer, the commentator says: "I've got this feeling that we will make it to the semi-finals".
I still get goose bumps over 2 decades later when I hear this bit of apparent precognition just before the ball gets this huge pass to Bergkamp and the rest is history.
It was a tough match with even a couple of red cards IIRC. But there was like 20 seconds left to play and this whole combination of this tough match, the big of precognition, the beautiful pass and the absolutely masterful finish by Bergkamp makes just before the end of the match makes it my favourite goal ever.
      I rarely watch football/soccer, but when I do, I watch Bergkamp 😊😇😍

@@trashmail8 That commentary was stupid. Reminds me of the South American ones where they just shout "goal" continuously or the scorers name (like this one th-cam.com/video/waETo-ZWCRw/w-d-xo.html ). That's not good commentary, a school boy could do that.

They make it look like a training ground move. DeBoer just strokes the ball a hundred feet in the air, Bergkamp takes it in stride, switches it past the Argentine defender before he's realised it, and then strokes it powerfully with the outside of his right foot into the roof of the net. Bergkamp never seems to break sweat, or stride. Extraordinary skills and execution.

Everyone commented on the Bergkamp's first touch, but what about his second touch? It is equally magical! How smoothly he cut it inside to evade the Argentinian defender. Finally, his third and final touch to score the goal was again magical. Three magical touches by one of the greatest football magicians!!!
