I am a United fan, I hate Arsenal, but I would say without any hesitation or doubt , that Dennis Bergkamp, was a truly world class player, who elevated and graced the Premier League. I was always scared when he got the ball against us. Bergkamp, routinely scored goals for club and country that were not only out of this world, but defied belief and description. I was glad and sad when he retired, we were rid of a nemesis but Premier League lost his genius.
This is what I always appreciate so much about the English people. To see fans from arch-rivals from Arsenal giving such respectful comments, even when they lost is something we Dutchmen don't so quick. When Bergkamp scored against us I wasn't happy at all to say it in a decent way. When you're looking back after many years I can only say I was so lucky to see such a an amazing legend playing for Ajax, Inter, Arsenal and the Dutch national team. What a time back then!

I was always jealous as a Liverpool fan that he was an Arsenal player. Absolutely fabulous footballer and a joy to watch. That goal against Newcastle, to this day, is still my favourite ever goal in PL history. The temerity to even think about doing it. The speed of thought, the touch to take the pace off of a fast ball and to cushion it, set it up with perfect backspin to sit perfectly for him to spin 180 degrees, blind and in the opposite direction, run onto and then open up the body to coolly slot it in is pure magic.

But lo, even as a kid I can't deny the greatness of Bergkamp and Arsenal. Hell with media, Chelsea vs Arsenal (2-3) game made me fall in love with Bergkamp and Wenger's Arsenal till his resignation
Mate. Trust me, I was 17 when he signed it was truly an amazing moment. Far more significant than when Ozil, Aubameyang or anyone else ‘big’ has signed since.
That goal vs Argentina in the '98 world cup was just insane. To bring down such a long ball so softly then cut it back vs the defender and basically poke it with the outside of his right foot into the far corner... just brilliant! I believe the announcer said "Dennis Bergkamp" 20 times after the ball went in lol
I'll never forget that moment in 98. One of the most emotional moments in football in all my life. I had already given up hope and seeing this evolve in front of my eyes was just out of this world. What made this even better was the announcer sort of announcing this goal during the attack. It was a delight seeing Bergkamp play. To me he's truly one of the greatest of all time.

Just got him in PES yesterday and man is he a legend! So many golden memories from the late 90s and early 2000s. I have never been a big fan of Arsenal but Bergkamp was still something else, a true magician with the ball. And that '98 World Cup, Holland was so fun to watch thanks to him and many many other skilled players.
I grew up with Bergkamp, I am an Ajax fan and i am Dutch. He was one of the greatest for us Dutch. The goal against Argentina on tthe WC in the US. That era of the Dutch should have earned a WC title. Bergkamp is also afraid of flying. But he was the best creative player I have ever witnessed, the flegmatic moves, the intelligence, the beauty. And, like Cruyff, he made it look simple.
Undoubtedly the best player to wear an Arsenal shirt. And Wrighty and Henry both said that it was a privilege to play with him. Thank you, Dennis, for so many happy memories. It was a privilege to have you at Arsenal.
what a player. his first touch was the best ive ever seen he could pluck the ball out of mid air and stop it dead still. he was the most comfortable football player on the ball ive ever seen.
I watched a video of the Arsenal team of Bergkamp's era last week - a group of players were celebrating a goal and I was astonished at the names involved in the celebration; I'd forgotten what a brilliant group that was.... Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Pires, Campbell, Gilberto, Reyes, Cole, Lauren - that's more than a nucleus for a World Cup winning team! Such a huge amount of talent in that team.
Against Newcastle when the pass comes in i get chills, when Bergkamp makes the touch i get emotional. Dont exactly know why but this goal just stirs something up in me. Great player
same... i felt myself becoming emotional watching something of that level of greatness. I've seen it many times, but I don't think it'll ever change. If you are ever in a drag and need something inspiring, something to make you feel. And you need it quickly? watch that goal with some good music under the commentary.
How good was Dennis Bergkamp? Just constantly repeat that goal against Newcastle. That's how good he was. An absolute privilege to see play - wonderful footballer.
The greatest two touches in football history, left foot spin, right foot goal, i was there up the other end with the rest of the Arsenal fans and none of us including me knew how he did what he did. Some so called expert pundits suggested at the time it was luck but now they all agree it was a defining moment of artistry in football. So glad i was there. Thank you Dennis for all the great memories, me and i am sure all Arsenal fans will never ever forget you.
This man was a genius with the ball. The touch of a maestro and so, so intelligent. He scored my favourite goal of all time against Argentina. The control, touch to take it away from the defender and then finally smash it beyond the keeper. Watching that live, he just did it all before your brain could compute what he'd done. And then you were just left flabbergasted. Should also be pointed out, he was terrified of flying and this led to him missing many European nights with Arsenal. A tragedy for any football lover.
The time he played at Arsenal and during the '98 World Cup, he was like an idol for me... and I am german!! :D I'll never forget watching his goal vs. Argentina that World Cup, legendary!!
I take it this is a rhetorical question?! I will answer it anyway; one of the very very very best. I loved watching him play, he was so creative, you were never quite sure what was coming next. The 'Messi' of his era, and definitely on a par with the wee man.
Remember he got substituted due to injury and he received a standing ovation from the city fans. Think only zola and Henry ever appreciated the same a class player.
MARADONA...RONALDO9...BERGKAMP...HENRY...MESSI...I would say Diego the greatest...but the others are in no particular order...these 5 players are the only one's i have ever got up to and clapped..just my opinion that's all
His technical ability was way ahead of most in the mid/late 90's. Wonderful player to watch. Right up there with Zola as one of the best overseas players to come to the premier league at the time. I'd have paid to watch both
Way ahead? There were MANY players who were technically gifted in that time frame buddy. If Bergkamp was around today, Id agree. But not back then, too many legends.
I repeat; no player has ever been more skilled and artistic than Iceman. Overview, timing, originality, physics, speed, passing, dribling, headers, longshots - you name it; he had it.

Among the best Dutch players of all time. His skills were incredible, thinking of that match on Wembley were het scored a sublime goal after a long pass with a subtile touch. Just one of his many great actions in the Dutch team,at Arsenal and Ajax.
Last time I flew in 2001 I was soooooo traumatized that I got thoroughly searched at Tenerife because I was acting so weird but I was just grateful to be on Terra Firma. Had flown 40 times b4 and hated every minute...
What I really like about Bergkamp was that he danced with the ball, a very elegant playing style that made it enjoyable to watch him play. Also his insight and intellect was very good.
as a german guy who likes spurs, i still have to say that he's without a doubt one of the greatest and most graceful players in the history of football. everytime he touched the ball something absolutely beautiful happened
Watching his goals still gives me goosebumps even after all these years. I wonder if Dutch football will ever again bring such a multi talented player as Dennis Bergkamp. A true icon of the game.
Made 'boring' Arsenal into 'swinging' Arsenal, once The Invincibles, looking back it's very sadly too see for such a big club they're way far from that for many years now.
Bergkamp to me has the best assit pass I ever seen in my life, vs Juve how they have Been Tricked, They've Been Backstabbed and They've Been Quite Possibly, Bamboozled in that play was amazing to see, and a Im a Juventus fan
It makes me incredibly proud that we, as such a small country as the Netherlands, have always produced top sportsmen- and women on the highest level. I got interested in football when Bergkamp was already retired, but I always knew who he was for that goal against Argentina. That goal is legendary in my country. You should look up that goal with the Dutch commentator Jack van Gelder. Jack's reaction to that goal says it all, pure insanity, the majesty of Dennis Bergkamp
You should check out your legendary teams of the 1970’s and 80’s! Watching the 74 World Cup made me fall in love with the Dutch team, and Dutch players. I had the pleasure of living in Eindhoven a few years ago and I was a regular at PSV. Fantastic country 😍
Mark Leunenberg you’re welcome. I can only speak from experience I found your country to be a very welcoming and tolerant society. I’m Welsh from North Wales and as Wales football teams never qualified for any major tournaments in 1974 from the start I chose Netherlands as my team quite randomly, I think I liked the orange jerseys(I was 7 years old)and it was a great choice, without doubt the best team to not win the World Cup. They played football then how Barcelona play now but on muddy pitches and vicious tackling was expected. The ‘78 World Cup team was also fantastic, minus Cruyff, and also got to the final but unfortunately again beaten by the host nation! You have some fantastic football to treat yourself to.
@@joejones9838 we really do! Even though we complain a lot about our national teams. But that's what we do, complain. Maybe you experienced that as well 😂

what a player. his first touch was the best ive ever seen he could pluck the ball out of mid air and stop it dead still. he was the most comfortable football player on the ball ive ever seen.
Nowhere near as skillful as zidane, ronaldinho etc
That goal against Newcastle I don't think anyone will be able to replicate. That was a once in a lifetime goal.
The guy was a striker’s dream. Assists were a thing of beauty
Easily the most enjoyable player to watch. The complete player. He made it look an art. He was just so so good
How good was Dennis Bergkamp? Just constantly repeat that goal against Newcastle. That's how good he was. An absolute privilege to see play - wonderful footballer.
Short, interesting, entertaining, informative, quality videos. More grease to your elbows.
Thanks 👍
@@goat8078 bergkamp just 91 is embarrassing
The greatest two touches in football history, left foot spin, right foot goal, i was there up the other end with the rest of the Arsenal fans and none of us including me knew how he did what he did. Some so called expert pundits suggested at the time it was luck but now they all agree it was a defining moment of artistry in football. So glad i was there. Thank you Dennis for all the great memories, me and i am sure all Arsenal fans will never ever forget you.
I'm a United fan but Bergkamp was just pure class back then 👏
Long story short he was a beast
Every goal, movement and passing is art. There wasn't a single goal without class.
One of the most underrated ever
He had the best control I ever seen poetry in motion.
I’m a Chelsea fan ...yet I will always defend including this man in my all time premier league XI till I die 🔥🔥
So many better prem strikers than him
The time he played at Arsenal and during the '98 World Cup, he was like an idol for me... and I am german!!
Bergkamp and Zidane are the only players that were so special, they can't be recreated in a video game. You just can't play like them
Not to sure about that one bergkamp is unbelievable on new pes21 his rating is 99 out of 100 and he move exactly like he did in real life
@@8yogibear yes he feels unique
Bergkamp >>>>> Zidane baloon
@@flintmcgerty He's not on the same level as the other 2.
Bergkamp and zola are nowhere near the best ever in the prem
The goal he scored against Argentina in the World cup, is still one of the best goals ever. Great great player.
Dennis bergkamp is the reason why i like football as a kid and become arsenal fans till today
I repeat; no player has ever been more skilled and artistic than Iceman.
Overview, timing, originality, physics, speed, passing, dribling, headers, longshots - you name it; he had it.
😂😂😂 average number of goals and assists per season, only scored afew great goals, not even arsenals best player, nowhere near the best prem strikers, very overrated.bargain basement zidane.
Zidane comes close but it’s a debate but all the insults are untrue
You couldn‘t put it in words, just how good Dennis was. He was a gem.
He was absolutely brilliant!!
Pure genius, you cannot describe how if you love and appreciate football, players like Dennis and Zola were sublime.
Among the best Dutch players of all time. His skills were incredible, thinking of that match on Wembley were het scored a sublime goal after a long pass with a subtile touch. Just one of his many great actions in the Dutch team,at Arsenal and Ajax.
My all time favorite... He was so good and made others around him in the field (look) even better!
My favorite player of all time. The ice man, the non-flying Dutchman
The floating Dutchman.
He actually hated flying(I.e. in an aeroplane) so he is literally a non flying 😁
Kakivi Yepthomi his fear of flying screwed us several times in Europe...
THAT was the joke from Chris, my friend...
Last time I flew in 2001 I was soooooo traumatized that I got thoroughly searched at Tenerife because I was acting so weird but I was just grateful to be on Terra Firma. Had flown 40 times b4 and hated every minute...
Easily the classiest player to have ever played in the premier league.
@RShCovers 😂😂😂😂
@RShCovers Good luck typing "Paul Scholes" faster than he slides into players without hitting the ball.
@RShCovers there is nothing classy about scholes
Henry
@@larry2306 are you kiding boy 😂
For me Bergkamp is one of the greatest players to ever play football Bergkamp is the hole reason why we call football the buetifull game.
What I really like about Bergkamp was that he danced with the ball, a very elegant playing style that made it enjoyable to watch him play. Also his insight and intellect was very good.
Bergkamp quality and Arsenal play stlye back in the day,
was something that made u fall in love with football.
as a german guy who likes spurs, i still have to say that he's without a doubt one of the greatest and most graceful players in the history of football. everytime he touched the ball something absolutely beautiful happened
So overrated😂
It was a pleasure to watch him play live in the WC 94 round of 16
Bergkamp and Henry left Arsenal in close succession , they were never the same afterwards. I miss them both !
Watching his goals still gives me goosebumps even after all these years. I wonder if Dutch football will ever again bring such a multi talented player as Dennis Bergkamp. A true icon of the game.
Bergkamp is the definition of class. One of my favourite footballers ever.
Bergkamp and Henry, the deadliest partnership the premier league has ever seen.
Eh...ever heard of Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush for Liverpool, ca 1986?
@@robhendrikx2198 he said premier league
*The world has ever seen
Made 'boring' Arsenal into 'swinging' Arsenal, once The Invincibles, looking back it's very sadly too see for such a big club they're way far from that for many years now.
I agree fully. What a duo
I'm a Leeds fan, but by God I loved that man, and can honestly say he was the best player I have ever seen in England, in definitely top 5 ever
There have been lots of prem forwards better than him
@@ppo9200 your clearly in a minority there son. Probably a Man U fan
He made everybody in the team become a goal scorer, even Tony Adams
Bergkamp to me has the best assit pass I ever seen in my life, vs Juve how they have Been Tricked, They've Been Backstabbed and They've Been Quite Possibly, Bamboozled in that play was amazing to see, and a Im a Juventus fan
He did things other players couldn't imagine. He was the first of the mega players to come to us and drew others after him.
Wow didn't expect a new video this soon. Love to see it
Complete legend, how did he not win Ballon D’or? Thank for choosing and staying loyal to the gunners. Favourite player of all time! 👍
One of the all time greats!
Been a Manu fan over 25 years. My God do I miss watching Bergkamp play. Wish he signed for Manu instead of Arsenal. How did we miss him?
I was on the phone with my father when Bergkamp scored against Argentina, will never forget this moment.
I loved that man...simply an amazing player. His game was beautiful
This is incisive and thoughtfully constructed, much like a Bergkamp pass. Excellent work.
Still waiting for more videos! I thoroughly enjoy the work put into this!
dennis bergkamp what a player what legend of the game
@@joejones9838 thank you so much! I will check those teams out. I'm really glad to hear you liked it here! Where are you from?
Maybe you experienced that as well 😂
I am german, came to football around '95, so '98 was the first World Cup I watched. I am a fan of the dutch team ever since. Yes, when Germany plays vs. the Netherlands, I cheer for the dutch. I hope you continue to "produce" outstanding football players that are just fun to watch.
The Frankie De Boer pass to Dennis during the World Cup game in 1998 v Argentina was a pass and a goal of wonder
