Scotty for a non Tesla fanboy it was a fair review except for the recall information, which is primarily over the air updates that did not affect driving the car. Also, I agree that the Model X looks better with the door up.

One of my complaints about all electric cars, and this one is especially notorious for it, is the replacement of the batteries. They basically make them as disposable cars. I understand the "expense" of the batteries, just as a replacement engine for a Lexus, Mercedes, or Chevy will be expensive. But the labor is relatively minor, and it's certainly a feasible repair. What is/will be the cost to replace the batteries in a 15 year old Tesla? Who will pay a decent used car value on a 10 year old Tesla, knowing the batteries may weaken in 5 years? If I had been the designer or inventor, I would have tried to make the batteries replaceable in packs, easily done by the owner, or at least any generic mechanic. Sort of like how battery powered hand tools like lawn mowers and snow blowers are. The cars could use 25-50 individual battery packs (maybe under the seats, floor boards, or under the car covered by metal panels), and each pack could have a small display showing the health of the battery. They would be easy to remove and replace without the entire car being torn apart. I know it's just a wild dream, but I bet electric cars would be accepted by more people if it could be implemented.
The Toyota hybrid batteries ARE fairly easy to repair. Rich Rebuilds on TH-cam has been showing videos of repairing Tesla modules as well. Naturally, it's basically a ton of battery, so it's not for your shade tree mechanic. But in the end, it's just a massive pack full of modules. It's not all that proprietary once you open the lid.
There are 5 “battery modules” in a Tesla. They cost 5,000.00 to 7,000.00 each for a total of between 25,000.00 to 35,000.00. Testa will only change all 5 packs at once due to warranty issues. They last 150,000 to 200,000 miles….for a 60-90,000.00 car.
The REAL issues is with the models that the battery is part of the frame, they are literally disposable cars that wont last 100K and cant be recycled, lol...All that for the very high inflated price to the buyer top feel like they are saving the world or somehow saving money by not buying gas?!?!?!
@@murmovies The interior is not the problem, it's the rest of the vehicles. They are junk. Literally every car I have seen broken down on the side of the road in the last year while commuting 45 KM to and from work every day has been either a KIA or a Hyundai. I am not kidding in the slightest. I was going to buy a Hyundai Tucson too, glad I went with the 2022 RAV4 instead. I think it will be worth the extra money in the long run.
The only reason you would have gaps is because the vehicle has been in an accident. Not even car dealers will sell new vehicles with this kind of problem, they want people's money. People will walk away if there is anything wrong with the vehicle.
When Tesla has recall, it is typically a bug fix in the software. It's like saying if Microsoft releases a security patch for Windows 10, that means a billion plus computers have been recalled. I think my Tesla Model 3 has been recalled like 3 times, and I didn't even notice.
One time an update bricked our Tesla. They kept trying to push the update, and we know that it wasn’t even anything that was necessary, but for whatever reason it wouldn’t update, so they set out a mobile tech to push the update, and the MCU broke! Annoying thing about that is that your AC, turn signals, radio, cruise control, everything uses that computer. You can still drive it, but you’ll have the windows down for air and to use hand signals, and a bluetooth speaker for tunes. Took a month for Tesla to even get a new MCU because it needed to be the old one. No free upgrades for us. So we were stuck in a Texas summer without AC, or any kind of luxuries that even my 28yo Ford came with standard.
Not correct at all, a security patch is like changing the lock on your apartment after you move in so you know someone doesnt have a key. A recall is either volentary or mandated by the government because of a safety problem. Even if it is something software based it shows that they dont understand or respect the rules of the road and it not only could harm the drivers but it could harm 3rd parties that those regulations are there to protect.
It all comes down to battery technology and getting access to charging, THAT'S IT, PERIOD!!! These cars are impressive for those who can blow 100k or more, but for the rest of us who remember a time when you could buy a decent house for that much money, they're just showing off to the neighbors. My view for what it's worth!
You can buy a great electric car for 40k. Now look at Honda…..same. Chargers are everywhere but unless you travel a lot you charge at home and have a full tank EVERY night for almost no cost. All Scottie’s arguments are outdated or simply wrong. Most Tesla recalls are done over the air at night without you having to do anything. They are also the safest cars on the road and the most American.
Not so sure about that, I'm planning on getting an XC40 RECHARGE for around 50-60K because I like Volvo and will charge at home or at a campground when I go to Cape Cod. Especially now that gas is going sky high the same as deisel. It's a crazy world, I want a safe reliable EV vehicle. Polestar 2 is nice too but I want a sunroof that opens and liftgate with rear wiper.
@@watchinyoutube8919 Yes I bought a great house - for $100K near Yosemite national park. I am doing Airbnb and it's generating a good positive income (after taxes, mortgage and other expenses). How did I buy it for $100K? Simple! $100K is the money I could have used to buy a Tesla, or put down payment on the house 25%. Rest is financed by mortgage, but house generates enough income to be cash flow positive after mortage payment (and taxes and other expenses). So no doubt, $100K spent on a house (appreciating asset) is much better than blowing it on a Tesla (depreciating asset, despite what Elon Musk says - and no, there is no Musk robotaxi).
@@allieflounder5764 EVs are great until they go out of warranty and need battery replacement. At that point, car is worth less than battery replacement. which means you are SOL. Meanwhile, I am driving my 30 year old gas car every day. Probably it will still be on the road when most of the current generation Teslas have hit the junk yard.
My buddy bought a Tesla, they are truly impressive. He did see one situation where the auto-driving made a small mistake. They're so comfortable and quiet and have such great sound systems, it's like you're in your living room watching a video game of the road. And 0-60 in no time. Really something.
My Mercedes 2002 SLK 320 141K miles is still running strong for being 20 years old. Normal maintenance and replaced water pump after 20 years. I would say I got my money worth.
What makes Tesla so different than other manufacturers is that Tesla is a software/AI company that makes electric cars. Thats their passion from day one. The other companies started to make electric cars only after they saw their market share shrinking and the rug getting pulled from under their feet.
For a guy who decided to make an electric car with no previous history in the business, I’d say he’s doing pretty good. It’s going to take time for all the bugs to be worked out, probably years. It’s the growing pains of any company that pioneers in today’s industry. I say , good job 👍.
I love Scotty's videos, although at times he exagerates, but that is part of the fun. And by the way, what he says that all the Tesla ever made have been recalled one way or another is not accurate. I have a late 2014 Tesla P85D, and I have never received a recall ever and so is my oldest daughter and her husband. So at least, there are 3 Tesla which have never been recalled. We received all our updates remotely and while we are sleeping, and then next day, we have a like new car with lots of new or improved features!!!!! And mine has more than 200k miles and has never broke, no gas expenses, no maintenance expenses. The only thing is that I have to get new set of tires every 40k miles or so, even in 80K mile tires!!!!!
He may be technically correct, but the terminology is as antiquated as Scotty. Tesla has pushed us several software software updates that were classified as "recalls" be NHTSA. ie: Model 3 repeated emergency braking distance was fixed with software change and most owners probably never noticed. FYI: Tesla operates parts and service as a non-profit generating part of the business. Past 4 years, I have been blown away by Tesla Service comes to my driveway or even airport parking lot to fix things (no need to be present).
Facts. Most people who trash Teslas have never owned or even driven them. They just listen and repeat MSM talking points or talking points from auto websites who has big autos as their advertisers.

Test drive a Tesla if you can guys. They're pretty nice. Highest owner satisfaction rating, highest crash test rating, most American car made, no terrible gas-car acceleration lag, etc. The tech is so nice too.
If i can afford a 1,000 dollar payment.. hell yeah... But a lot of people don't live in a big city where these make sense.. i live in rural west Virginia with the closest charging station OVER TWO HOURS AWAY. makes no sense at all.. now if the infrastructure was improved maybe. But not for states like this.. literally back wood dirt roads here.

Just looked up used Model X, starting in the $60k rangee. I smiled at the fact you had a lot of praises. Ride mode is adjustable with air suspension. I agree their too much money but go price a GMC 2500 diesel. The most expensive part of Teslas are warranted for 8 years and 100k miles. But you will spend a lot on tires is you keep stomping the accelerator! Do love your videos. Waiting on your F150 Lightning review. I'll let you know how I feel about my Model Y coming next month.
@@StuartBelote an EV takes significantly longer to fix because there are very few mechanics and shops that fix them. I dont think there is an EV shop in my state.
@@johnv6806 and if the automobile dealer association has their way you will never have one in your state. They're lobbying state legislatures to keep them out because they want less competition.
I suspect it will mirror somewhat what happened with cell phones transitioning to smart phones with touch screens. People were used to push buttons eventually will need to adapt and get used to touch screens. It's good to have different perspectives about electric cars, but really comes down to what you prefer with regard to the experience and the wallet. No such thing as a one size fits all, but hard to dismiss trends in the auto industry.
When electric cars finally take more than 5% of US marketshare, it will be because the big boys started making and selling electric cars. Tesla will be v irrelevant by then
keypad dial vs touchscreen is just different to gas and electric cars. Electric cars offer much less revolutionary features than what smartphones gave over keypad.
It it fair to point out that the recalls of which you speak are generally "Over The Air" software updates. I've owned 2 Model 3s, going back to 2018...and I have never had a physical recall...only OTA.
Same, had my model 3 for 2 years now. Still am yet to spend a single dollar on any maintenance or a second on downtime. Most reliable car I've ever owned, and I've had a 01 honda civic, lol.
You'll never "break even" don't forget the insane insurance and registration costs too. Still a lot of fun to drive, but it's financially a high-end luxury item. Build quality is highly questionable as you pointed out at the end.
Correct... Tesla's are built like complete 💩 ! My $48,000 Model 3's interior looked like a Ford Focus with an iPad glued to the center. It rode like complete 💩 and rattled. It would regularly beep at me for stuff that didn't need attention - like the bluetooth connection, the WiFi connection, the door handles no working correctly, etc. etc. Also, I've never driven a car where people looked at me and either sneered, laughed, or shook their heads! Glad I'm back in a gas car!
All recalled is a misnomer, over 95% of those so called "recalls" were over the air updates (ota), such as when Elon thought it would be fun to play the radio from the government mandated outside speaker that's for pedestrian warning which they ordered Tesla to "recall" but was actually just an ota update to switch it back. That one alone affected all but the earliest Tesla's I still gave you a thumbs up, btw you seem to be warming up to Tesla Love ya Scotty
Respectfully: I have the latest Full Self Driving software version and I use it in northern Virginia and DC at least 80% of the time. And it's at least 90% accurate and correct. I have numerous drives of 20+ miles with no disengagements. Also, NHTSA might count software updates as "recalls," but the rest of us don't. My X has not been "recalled" in the conventional sense. I have almost 20K miles on it. And I have home charging and am paying 1/3 to 1/4 of the price of gas. Plus no oil, transmission, other costs. Regarding the ride: check the air suspension settings in the X. Sandy Munro says the Tesla seats are the best ever. Finally, I can go from south of DC to Boston on ONE recharge - 371 mile range on my late '20 X. I tell everyone that except for the rings on my wife's finger, my X is the best, greatest, most fabulous thing I've ever bought.
my electric kona gets 4 miles per kwh on the highway and 5.5 around town so even at 25 cents a kwh it only costs 5-6 cents a mile vs a 30 mpg gas kona costing 15 cents a mile. if i get solar panels it will be half a cent a mile.
It's actually 2.5 seconds. But the difference is that launching a 1000cc superbike in that time requires a lot of skill, whereas any soccer mom can launch a Tesla by mashing the pedal.
The biggest problem is charging. In CA, what iv seen, is charging stations can get SERIOUSLY backed up, as in 10 cars in a line waiting to charge. This means it can take 5+ hours to even get to the charger, and evs only make up a small % of cars! You obviously can build more chargers, but still, the charging time is a serious setback.
In CA, they can't make enough of their own electricity either. I like driving EVs and their relative simplicity (so many less parts to break). But unless we can make enough chargers to charge them, and also enough electricity in general, EVs will be the biggest boondoggle in the history of man. And about generating enough electricity..ain't gonna happen with Greenies in power.
I live in CA, and own a tesla, never had to wait in line for a charger, tho seen some lines at supercharger stations right outside of LA. If I did, I'd just go to a supermarket/mall or nice part of town, always superchargers there and always a spot open. Most of the time, I don't even charge unless I'm at home, or it's just convenient at some parking garage or something.

I had a 93 600 SEL super rare car only $155,000 back in 93. Great car not so great when in for repairs or service every visit $2,000+ my biggest complaint was the windows they were always messed up. So far my $97,000 model X 2016 has not cost me a dime in repairs. I am thinking of getting a new battery THE 12v one under the hood. The big battery is still holding a full charge after 6 years. I’ll take a Tesla over MB every time. And lastly as for LOW ride height you can set the height up 6 different levels. But then that’s what you get when you rent a car for a review.
Mann my friend had a 2019 Ford Fusion and it had electric locks and I got stuck in the back of that thing for 20 minutes… I prefer my older vehicles with push and pull lock pins on the door. Never fails me 👍🏾
If A.I. piloted automobiles will only work when they are the only vehicles on the road, then they'll never work. Are there going to also be A.I. operated motorcycles? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having a motorcycle? Will driving classic cars on public roads be outlawed? If my 1967 Camaro hadn't been destroyed in the Camp Fire, I'd still be driving it, with plans to continue to do so until I die in the next 20 to 30 years. I'm going to replace it with a C5 Z06, which I will drive until I die, unless I'm prohibited by law. The future is here, and I find it very disappointing.

we have a model Y. we have put 1700mi on it and it has cost me 20$ in electricity where I live. equiviant cost in our minivan would be 400$. its not for everyone but for all those short trips to the store, gym, school that are hard on gas engines this thing is hands down better and faster.

Considering tax rebates, subsidies, no maintenance costs, and "fuel" that costs nothing, you'll get to net saving within a few years pretty easily depending on what you owned previously. Only will take me one more year until I have officially paid less money for my model 3 I've owned for 3 years than my honda civic I've owned for 6 years. Even getting something like a Nissan leaf for $6k would start actually net saving you money within a year or two.
I just want a vehicle with electronics “as-needed.” i.e., as little as they can get away with. I don’t want a touch-screen infotainment system, I don’t want electric door handles. The problem with electronics is that when one goes bad, they seem to ALL go bad.
Additionally, electrics are expensive to fix, or in many cases easier to replace which can still cost a fortune. An electric door handle is like a solution in search of a problem, and when they do bad they will be more expensive to fix/replace than a mechanical handle.

@@pulga961 It doesn't have a single height, it's dynamic. But standing still it's 5-9 inches between all 5 settings. So 4inches between highest and lowest settings. Again, there is no solid number for ride height becasue it dynamically adjusts. there is also jack-mode that turns off auto-leveling and gives you an inch more.
I rented a model 3 Tesla and the ride was harsher than my Mazda CX5. It cost less than half to recharge than to fill my tank. And the $1,000 upgraded "vegan leather" seat covers to owner paid for let my belt transfer color to it. Impossible to clean off and all the shops I went to said, "It's a luxury car, it should have leather seats. Then that color transfer wouldn't happen." Teslas are not luxury cars from what I experienced.

@@sethriggle1462 I drive a lot for work and I'll still be ahead. I figured all the expenses and saved accordingly. I never broke down from a bad alternator, a bad started, a dead battery, a broken belt, busted hoses...... Never had an oil leak, transmission leak, coolant leak. Never had any maintenance except for tires and brakes and it just hit 230k miles. Brakes seem to last a long time because when you release the accelerator, it practically stops. I use it specifically for work and it is very reliable. We use our Super Duty diesel for traveling.
@@sethriggle1462 Have had one for 4 years, never replaced anything but brakes and tires. Also, not much to replace anyways since there are no moving parts other than the motor and wheels.
I tuned in to watch the Tesla Roast. LOL.not disappointed. The gull wing doors can be a constant nightmare WHEN NEW. Every Tesla I have ever heard of that was wrecked has waited months for repair parts. Insuring them must be horrendous. Often Teslas are totalled after just what look like minor accidents. Tesla's that are owned in any area where ice occurs in the winter can have massive problems with getting doors open and massively reduced range. Anyone thinking of buying a Tesla should look at the youtube channel richrebuilds. This young man is a brilliant and very talented car enthusiast that simply got exhausted at fighting everything including the Tesla corporation to repair his Tesla cars. He has dozens of older videos that explain the true nightmare that repairing and owning a Tesla in a winter location can be. Great video again,Scotty.Keep up the great work.
"Insuring them must be horrendous." I have a Model S, I am insured thru Tesla, and it's cheaper than Geico, Progressive etc. I pay $146 for 6 month. Not sure if that is "horrendous" or not, to each their own. Tesla offers their own insurance, why? Because they have all the vehicle data and can give custom tailored rates based on driving habits, something the rest of the auto industry can only dream of.

@@phil4986 I switched from Geico, had a situation where the other driver was at fault (who was also on Geico) Geico claimed they could not determine who was at fault. However, the only saving grace was that I had a dashcam and submitted it to Geico and forced them to pay the claim. Glad to hear you had good experience with Geico, I didn't though, and I strongly recommend you get a dashcam to keep Geico honest.
My main problem is that damn recharge time. The day they build an EV that can be topped off from nearly empty in just a couple minutes? That’s the day I’ll be more serious about getting one. Until then they’re to much like a novelty in my personal opinion.
Park your vehicle overnight at your house for several hours while you sleep and charge it. Save yourself time from having to go to a gas station and also time getting oil changes.

Model X, the most expensive option from Tesla. I agree Elon Musk could work on improving things like suspension, but to me it is a minor inconvenience when it can't handle bumpy roads very well. Of course it is not meant for off road, the off road electric truck is the cybertruck.

The reason Tesla is leading in recalls is because of the legal definition of recalls. Almost every "recall" of Tesla vehicles was a simple software change that came with an over the air update.

I drove my boss’ Model X a few times. You’d get used to it. I’m all on board with electric cars after driving his a few times. Don’t get me wrong they have issues they need to figure out. I live in a condo no home base type place with a garage to just charge up from home overnight. This is a problem for me and many other people. Time is precious and finding a charging station and waiting all that time is garbage. But if I could plug in and charge from home it would not be a problem.

I don’t drive a lot, it’s work and back and maybe groceries etc. if I could charge at home no big deal, but having to go find a station and wait a pretty long time just to get home is another thing. Fact is electric cars are just not practical for everyone, at least not yet. They are cool though, I’m all aboard it just has issues that need fixing. Not just charging either, the electrical grid all over the world needs upgrading or blackouts and brownouts all the time.
I know 3 ppl with Teslas and they all admitted the tech is there to distract you from the overall horridly poor build quality. They have also admitted the tech could not be fully depended on, as all 3 have experienced their share of hiccups whether minor or major. None of them agreed that the car is worth it's asking price. They all feel like they paid for a computer, and the car was an afterthought. None of them were sure if they would buy another Tesla in the future.
I know 4 and they are all happy with it, one will even buy the horrendous looking Cybertruck... Anecdotal evidence is worth jack... Also "admitted" ? Personal preferences with tech/car builds is different for everyone, some people will be content with cars that last them 3 years, others want cars that will last them 20....
Living in the Northeast I remember a day an unexpected snow storm came in....My wife and I made it home safe and sound that night in our 04 Yukon,,,, We pasted at least 20 stuck Teslas... Some off the road, some stuck right in the middle of the road...
thankfully, i live in a city that has a Tesla workshop (Pensacola FL). despite that, i wouldn’t get one anytime soon. i’ll continue putting around in my diesel VW. slow and steady wins the race…eventually!
With the ineptitude I see exhibited from drivers today, I find it a little alarming that they can buy a car that excelerated from 0 mph to 60 mph in less that 2 seconds.
You should do more research in the Tesla company's vehicles. Cause they have a safety feature in place that Doesn't allow the person to drive drive the vehicle without having their hands away from the steamwheel too long all not loud their eyes beat away from the road too long either. They go pretty much screams at you till you put your hands back on or focus back on to the road where they should be. And they proved many other features about the Tesla vehicles since the day you got that 1 too
EVs are *probably* okay enough for daily in-town driving. These are applications and cases where ranges are relatively short and locations of chargers are easily known and accessible. People can also time their charging to charge during off hours at night when they’re not using their car anyway. They’re not quite ready for long road trips, yet. But give them a few years, and they probably will be.
I drive a model 3 long range, AWD, and i go on long trips all the time, without any issues. The range when fully charged is close to 300 miles, and there are superchargers everywhere in new england. Some people even go on road trips of close to 1000 miles and they do just fine.
@@harold5560 It is definitely possible, but not necessarily convenient. The superchargers still take about 20-30 minutes, roughly 4 times the time it takes to fill a 20-30 gallon tank up with gas. End of the world? No. But some people just aren’t ready for that, at this point. Plus, you factor something in like a hour+ traffic jam, you might not be able to make it all the way to that supercharger your car is telling you to drive to. Then what? And this doesn’t even mention that if EVERYONE did it, it would probably double current demand on the electric grid just for vehicle charging. All of these problems are solvable. I’m not saying that. But we really need to build some more advanced nuclear power plants, really push the charging network build out and get charging times down to 15 minutes (or less; or come up with pre-charged fast change-out interchangeable batteries) before it’s ready for a comparable experience to gas and diesel vehicles.
@@nrutledge01 Couldn't be more wrong. The government just put billions into expanding the charge network that already had it to where you can drive anywhere in the US without any problems. I've driven my model 3 long distance constantly (from SAC to Vegas and LA) and have never needed to worry about charging since I'll just go to a stop that has chargers and go do something for 20min. Then just charge at whatever place I'm staying at. Trip planner accounts for all of that, and you use very little energy when going slow in traffic. I've been in LA traffic for 3.5 hours at 18% battery and made it out with 10%, lol (used the AC sparingly). I've got 3 family memebers with teslas, and a good bunch of friends with telsas, I've never heard anyone actually running out of battery before. AS long as you use trip planner, there is no way you'll run out of battery. Even then, just call up tesla service and they will come charge the battery for you wherever you are stuck.
@@nrutledge01 , when you decide to do your part to fight global warming as well as air pollution by burning less fossil fuels, you have to sacrifice convenience . Stopping for 20-30 min once or twice during a long road trip to charge is actually pretty fun, you get to explore lots of interesting places and small towns, you get out of your car, go for a walk, spend money on local businesses… regarding the traffic jams, people rarely or never have a problem getting to the superchargers because of traffic, simply because the tesla gps directly takes you to the closest supercharger based on available range. Also, keep in mind that most tesla owners have home wall chargers. We do need to make major updates to our infrastructure if everyone were to drive electric cars, and there is little political will to do this, sadly. Yet i’m sure that in places like the northeast, northwest and california we’ll eventually come up with some local solution to this issue, but it is definitely doable. Finally, there’s a lot of ongoing battery research, and range of EVs just keeps getting better and batteries cheaper. I hate the environmental and social impact of extracting lithium, nickel, cobalt, etc.. but i am hopeful that with recycling and different tech in the future we’ll be able to move on.

You can raise the suspension in a Tesla. You can also set a location alert that will set the suspension to your custom setting when you get to a specific location.. huh? Meaning, when I get to my apartment where there is a steep driveway, I have to raise the suspension so I won’t scrape the bottom of the car. And the valet folks don’t need to know so the car will just raise up any time I get near that driveway… it’s epic actually.

Sorry, Rich really can't help you much. First of all, parts must be sourced - you need to pay the piper (Elon Musk) as Rich can't fix parts especially complex Tesla electronics which had Louis Rossman befuddled. Second there is only THREE locations for electrified garage. If you aren't nearby, you are SOL
2 motors helps acceleration but it hurts range. A single motor would get better range with the same size battery. Neat trick "stepping on the gas" in an electric car which does have an accelerator but no gas pedal.

The driver took off before I did. That is when I notice he was pulling a huge 7' X 14' cargo trailer. Maybe he carries his money around in the trailer. I have read that range drops by 30% to 60% when you pull a trailer with a Tesla. One guy pulling a 22-foot Airstream got 177 miles between charges, which is just under 50% of the claimed maximum range.
@@benc1927 The Tesla X does have 670 to 1020 horsepower, compared to 400 to 600 HP of a semi. But they only have about a quarter of their torque. And their frames are not as good.
My neighbor that has a modelx tows his boat constantly, and it's not a little boat either. Says he never sees his mileage go down too much either just becasue of the dynamic torque and all the tech that makes towing incredibly easy for EVs.
One thing to consider in this Model X and Tesla’s in general is the range and Efficiency. Audi has no where near the efficiency or range per kilowatt as Tesla. Tesla’s are flat out less to operate than most other electric vehicles out there.
You don't drive a $100K car to save on gas (or electricity)! LOL But Teslas are way more expensive than any gasoline cars. My driving my gasoline car for 30 years cost way less than a brand new Tesla that's not even been driven! Wait till it's time to replace Tesla battery out of warranty!
@@springer-qb4dv I understand what you are saying. I was referring to the equivalent Audi EVs as a comparison to Teslas. No doubt the price of the Model X and S being six figures are not something that are going to be mass adopted.
The driving modes also help smoothen the breaking system. My dad pumps breaks really hard but I adjusted the settings to where everything was seamless.
They are falcon wing doors. Most of the recalls are software fixes not to bad on the hardware side. Interesting take on self driving... I think the future self driving vehicles as the current ones today will not rely on v2v communication. Will see what the future holds.
5G is literally built for autonomous transportation networks, used mostly in warehouse facilities and eventually on the street with inner-city driverless taxi and delivery networks that are just around the corner and have been testing in the field for years now.

Thats not to say v2v protocols wont be helpful, but they sure in the hell wont be depending on 5g networks or any cell based networks for driving critical operations.

Also Scotty you are correct almost every Tesla has been recalled!! You’re leaving out the important part: only one car in the history of Tesla was replaced. Most every other recall vehicle was updated via over the air software correction to fix the recall.. if you’re going to disrespect, at least do it with an proper explanation!
probably electric cars are the future. But it should be based on economics, not the government putting ic vehicles out of business, by rasing gas prices and requiring outrageous mpg standards.
Scottie I appreciate you trying to be non-biased in this tour of the Tesla Model X as much as possible. The world is finally starting to wake up to electric vehicles and there are a lot of challenges to solve. You see Tesla's in most parts of the country now. A lot of people point to the power grid as to why we cannot go all (or mostly) electric. And yes, obviously this will be an issue in the short term. But it will be an issue in the same way that it was an issue when AC units became standard in American's households. We will build and upgrade our infrastructure and create jobs in the process. Heck, Texas needs an update regardless of whether they have electric cars or not!! Another point people often bring up is that the production of electricity is not always better than the consumption of gas. For example, if the majority of electricity comes from coal. This is another true point. But like everything else, we must build our way out of this. These companies who are going electric are doing their part in trying to make sustainable transportation, it's time for state/federal governments to audit their electricity production and find cleaner ways to produce it. The car companies are not going to do that, obviously. Whether it's wind (personally not a fan of wind) solar, or nuclear, these alternatives are all better than coal. With many car companies starting the electric revolution, it's time for our governments to support them to make the transition. Of course, we will never be rid of gas/diesel cars entirely, at least not in this century. Many poor nations for example will still rely on outdated transportation methods and there will always be people who love the ICE car, as there are people who love the muscle cars of the 60s/70s. Heck, the manual transmission is still alive! All in all, this is a pivotal moment in history, should our generation be successful in the adaptation and implementation of electric vehicles/production then the next century's generations will have a better future and more likely than not, a healthier planet.

My insurance on a Model S 75D is $540 for 6 months. Significantly less than my WRX STi. My monthly fuel savings is $150 to $250. Teslas aren't cheap, but they re cheap compared to a comparable car.
Considering you would be wealthy enough for a 100k car, insurance cost is nothing. If anything the time you save without having to go to a "fuel pump" except for very long trips, no down time because no maintenance required, tax rebates, almost zero cost for electricity to charge, and subsides, the cost savings will still be good.

Scotty why isn't Tesla adding a charging system similar to alternators on their cars so the batteries charge themselves as you drive, if 2 alternator type chargers were setup on the rear wheels that would charge the battery as the car was in motion it could virtually eliminate the need to stop for hours to charge the car. I'm not a engineer or a genius but have thought about this type of system for years, making cars that could have an unlimited driving range by charging itself.
Scotty, these self driving calculations are actually using AI technology - not binary. Unlike legacy autos, the FED software can be stress tested using simulation. You can feed as many scenarios as you can without having to test it on the street. We only have 2 eyes and limited reaction speed. How can we compete against 5 or 6 cameras looking at all angles with lightning reaction?

Got some things right, a lot of things wrong. For instance your assertion that Audis ride better because they've been doing it longer and know how to make suspensions. First of all, suspensions are a supplied part; Bilstein, Ohlins, Continental, ZF, Oxford, Sachs, Fox, Linamar, Showa, Magneti Marelli, Amcast, are just a few examples of suspension suppliers. A company can work with a suspension company, choose active or static, the level of comfort, how much road holding they want, gross weight, type of ride, how much they want to spend, and that's what they'll get... no experience necessary. Just look at how much circuit racing experience Ford had this last time they smashed Ferrari at LeMans... what they did have was the same suspension designer as Tesla (Hubert Mees). What's more, Model S and X have adaptive air suspensions that can be adjusted - a key item you overlooked, especially for one being so critical about the ride.

Well, I'm 75 and our 2020 Tesla Model S Long Range Plus is the best we've ever owned. And that includes Lexus and BMW. We have rooftop solar and drive for FREE!

The cameras can see barriers very easily to avoid them, it's how it avoids other cars, ya ding dong. It can even stop for peds and avoid obstacles. You're wrong about the ground clearance. It has air suspension, and you can raise or lower it. There are 5 settings for height..very low, low, regular, high, very high.
Not at all. You really have to push the car to actually kill that much power. Go watch Teslas at the race track, they will last just barely as long as the ICE do before needing a "refill". Lots of people take their tesla to track days. Model x has dynamic towing features that, depending on weight, you'll lose about 10-30 miles on hard long range at most. My neighbor has a model x that hauls a pretty nice sized boat, says he has not seen his range get any worse with towing before.
I still wish I owned a Tesla. Probably never will because I know they're just too expensive to own but I still want one. Have wanted an EV for like 40 years before they were even a thought. Back when I was a kid driving RC cars, I thought, man, wish they'd make one of these you could actually get in and drive. A few years ago (3 maybe) a tennis buddy of mine let me ride in his and I told him to floor it after the next round-about. Holy moly that was a take off I will never forget. Really hope before I croak I can own one.
Audi service surfers from parts and labor shortage. My daughter bought a Q7 and got the prepaid service package that would handle oil changes and fluids. So she wanted to get the oil and filter changed and called for an appointment on the 1st of April. The soonest they had an opening was the middle of August. This was in Austin Texas. So much for Dealer service. Oh by the way they will not refund her charge for the prepaid service even though she has never used it.

One of my complaints about all electric cars, and this one is especially notorious for it, is the replacement of the batteries. They basically make them as disposable cars. I understand the "expense" of the batteries, just as a replacement engine for a Lexus, Mercedes, or Chevy will be expensive. But the labor is relatively minor, and it's certainly a feasible repair. What is/will be the cost to replace the batteries in a 15 year old Tesla? Who will pay a decent used car value on a 10 year old Tesla, knowing the batteries may weaken in 5 years?
If I had been the designer or inventor, I would have tried to make the batteries replaceable in packs, easily done by the owner, or at least any generic mechanic. Sort of like how battery powered hand tools like lawn mowers and snow blowers are. The cars could use 25-50 individual battery packs (maybe under the seats, floor boards, or under the car covered by metal panels), and each pack could have a small display showing the health of the battery. They would be easy to remove and replace without the entire car being torn apart.
I know it's just a wild dream, but I bet electric cars would be accepted by more people if it could be implemented.
The Toyota hybrid batteries ARE fairly easy to repair. Rich Rebuilds on TH-cam has been showing videos of repairing Tesla modules as well. Naturally, it's basically a ton of battery, so it's not for your shade tree mechanic. But in the end, it's just a massive pack full of modules. It's not all that proprietary once you open the lid.
There are 5 “battery modules” in a Tesla. They cost 5,000.00 to 7,000.00 each for a total of between 25,000.00 to 35,000.00. Testa will only change all 5 packs at once due to warranty issues. They last 150,000 to 200,000 miles….for a 60-90,000.00 car.
The REAL issues is with the models that the battery is part of the frame, they are literally disposable cars that wont last 100K and cant be recycled, lol...All that for the very high inflated price to the buyer top feel like they are saving the world or somehow saving money by not buying gas?!?!?!

@@murmovies The interior is not the problem, it's the rest of the vehicles. They are junk. Literally every car I have seen broken down on the side of the road in the last year while commuting 45 KM to and from work every day has been either a KIA or a Hyundai. I am not kidding in the slightest. I was going to buy a Hyundai Tucson too, glad I went with the 2022 RAV4 instead. I think it will be worth the extra money in the long run.
The only reason you would have gaps is because the vehicle has been in an accident. Not even car dealers will sell new vehicles with this kind of problem, they want people's money. People will walk away if there is anything wrong with the vehicle.

My 2021 model S drives smoothly with 400 mile ranges and any recalls are just a download update. Favorite car of all time by a long shot.
When Tesla has recall, it is typically a bug fix in the software. It's like saying if Microsoft releases a security patch for Windows 10, that means a billion plus computers have been recalled. I think my Tesla Model 3 has been recalled like 3 times, and I didn't even notice.
One time an update bricked our Tesla. They kept trying to push the update, and we know that it wasn’t even anything that was necessary, but for whatever reason it wouldn’t update, so they set out a mobile tech to push the update, and the MCU broke! Annoying thing about that is that your AC, turn signals, radio, cruise control, everything uses that computer. You can still drive it, but you’ll have the windows down for air and to use hand signals, and a bluetooth speaker for tunes. Took a month for Tesla to even get a new MCU because it needed to be the old one. No free upgrades for us. So we were stuck in a Texas summer without AC, or any kind of luxuries that even my 28yo Ford came with standard.
Not correct at all, a security patch is like changing the lock on your apartment after you move in so you know someone doesnt have a key. A recall is either volentary or mandated by the government because of a safety problem. Even if it is something software based it shows that they dont understand or respect the rules of the road and it not only could harm the drivers but it could harm 3rd parties that those regulations are there to protect.
It all comes down to battery technology and getting access to charging, THAT'S IT, PERIOD!!! These cars are impressive for those who can blow 100k or more, but for the rest of us who remember a time when you could buy a decent house for that much money, they're just showing off to the neighbors. My view for what it's worth!
You can buy a great electric car for 40k. Now look at Honda…..same. Chargers are everywhere but unless you travel a lot you charge at home and have a full tank EVERY night for almost no cost. All Scottie’s arguments are outdated or simply wrong. Most Tesla recalls are done over the air at night without you having to do anything. They are also the safest cars on the road and the most American.
Not so sure about that, I'm planning on getting an XC40 RECHARGE for around 50-60K because I like Volvo and will charge at home or at a campground when I go to Cape Cod. Especially now that gas is going sky high the same as deisel. It's a crazy world, I want a safe reliable EV vehicle. Polestar 2 is nice too but I want a sunroof that opens and liftgate with rear wiper.

How did I buy it for $100K? Simple! $100K is the money I could have used to buy a Tesla, or put down payment on the house 25%. Rest is financed by mortgage, but house generates enough income to be cash flow positive after mortage payment (and taxes and other expenses). So no doubt, $100K spent on a house (appreciating asset) is much better than blowing it on a Tesla (depreciating asset, despite what Elon Musk says - and no, there is no Musk robotaxi).
@@allieflounder5764 EVs are great until they go out of warranty and need battery replacement. At that point, car is worth less than battery replacement. which means you are SOL. Meanwhile, I am driving my 30 year old gas car every day. Probably it will still be on the road when most of the current generation Teslas have hit the junk yard.
My buddy bought a Tesla, they are truly impressive. He did see one situation where the auto-driving made a small mistake. They're so comfortable and quiet and have such great sound systems, it's like you're in your living room watching a video game of the road. And 0-60 in no time. Really something.
My Mercedes 2002 SLK 320 141K miles is still running strong for being 20 years old. Normal maintenance and replaced water pump after 20 years. I would say I got my money worth.

What makes Tesla so different than other manufacturers is that Tesla is a software/AI company that makes electric cars. Thats their passion from day one. The other companies started to make electric cars only after they saw their market share shrinking and the rug getting pulled from under their feet.
Exactly why tesla's software is so great above all the others. That and being partnered with nvidia for the hardware and software.
For a guy who decided to make an electric car with no previous history in the business, I’d say he’s doing pretty good. It’s going to take time for all the bugs to be worked out, probably years. It’s the growing pains of any company that pioneers in today’s industry. I say , good job 👍.
I love Scotty's videos, although at times he exagerates, but that is part of the fun. And by the way, what he says that all the Tesla ever made have been recalled one way or another is not accurate. I have a late 2014 Tesla P85D, and I have never received a recall ever and so is my oldest daughter and her husband. So at least, there are 3 Tesla which have never been recalled. We received all our updates remotely and while we are sleeping, and then next day, we have a like new car with lots of new or improved features!!!!! And mine has more than 200k miles and has never broke, no gas expenses, no maintenance expenses. The only thing is that I have to get new set of tires every 40k miles or so, even in 80K mile tires!!!!!
He may be technically correct, but the terminology is as antiquated as Scotty. Tesla has pushed us several software software updates that were classified as "recalls" be NHTSA. ie: Model 3 repeated emergency braking distance was fixed with software change and most owners probably never noticed. FYI: Tesla operates parts and service as a non-profit generating part of the business. Past 4 years, I have been blown away by Tesla Service comes to my driveway or even airport parking lot to fix things (no need to be present).

Test drive a Tesla if you can guys. They're pretty nice. Highest owner satisfaction rating, highest crash test rating, most American car made, no terrible gas-car acceleration lag, etc. The tech is so nice too.
If i can afford a 1,000 dollar payment.. hell yeah... But a lot of people don't live in a big city where these make sense.. i live in rural west Virginia with the closest charging station OVER TWO HOURS AWAY. makes no sense at all.. now if the infrastructure was improved maybe. But not for states like this.. literally back wood dirt roads here.

Just looked up used Model X, starting in the $60k rangee. I smiled at the fact you had a lot of praises. Ride mode is adjustable with air suspension. I agree their too much money but go price a GMC 2500 diesel. The most expensive part of Teslas are warranted for 8 years and 100k miles. But you will spend a lot on tires is you keep stomping the accelerator!

I suspect it will mirror somewhat what happened with cell phones transitioning to smart phones with touch screens. People were used to push buttons eventually will need to adapt and get used to touch screens. It's good to have different perspectives about electric cars, but really comes down to what you prefer with regard to the experience and the wallet. No such thing as a one size fits all, but hard to dismiss trends in the auto industry.

It it fair to point out that the recalls of which you speak are generally "Over The Air" software updates. I've owned 2 Model 3s, going back to 2018...and I have never had a physical recall...only OTA.

Even if it's not OTA, Tesla Mobile Service will come out to your house and take care of it for you.
You'll never "break even" don't forget the insane insurance and registration costs too. Still a lot of fun to drive, but it's financially a high-end luxury item. Build quality is highly questionable as you pointed out at the end.
Correct... Tesla's are built like complete 💩 ! My $48,000 Model 3's interior looked like a Ford Focus with an iPad glued to the center. It rode like complete 💩 and rattled. It would regularly beep at me for stuff that didn't need attention - like the bluetooth connection, the WiFi connection, the door handles no working correctly, etc. etc. Also, I've never driven a car where people looked at me and either sneered, laughed, or shook their heads! Glad I'm back in a gas car!

All recalled is a misnomer, over 95% of those so called "recalls" were over the air updates (ota), such as when Elon thought it would be fun to play the radio from the government mandated outside speaker that's for pedestrian warning which they ordered Tesla to "recall" but was actually just an ota update to switch it back.

Respectfully: I have the latest Full Self Driving software version and I use it in northern Virginia and DC at least 80% of the time. And it's at least 90% accurate and correct. I have numerous drives of 20+ miles with no disengagements. Also, NHTSA might count software updates as "recalls," but the rest of us don't. My X has not been "recalled" in the conventional sense. I have almost 20K miles on it. And I have home charging and am paying 1/3 to 1/4 of the price of gas. Plus no oil, transmission, other costs. Regarding the ride: check the air suspension settings in the X. Sandy Munro says the Tesla seats are the best ever. Finally, I can go from south of DC to Boston on ONE recharge - 371 mile range on my late '20 X. I tell everyone that except for the rings on my wife's finger, my X is the best, greatest, most fabulous thing I've ever bought.

It's actually 2.5 seconds. But the difference is that launching a 1000cc superbike in that time requires a lot of skill, whereas any soccer mom can launch a Tesla by mashing the pedal.
The biggest problem is charging. In CA, what iv seen, is charging stations can get SERIOUSLY backed up, as in 10 cars in a line waiting to charge. This means it can take 5+ hours to even get to the charger, and evs only make up a small % of cars! You obviously can build more chargers, but still, the charging time is a serious setback.
In CA, they can't make enough of their own electricity either. I like driving EVs and their relative simplicity (so many less parts to break). But unless we can make enough chargers to charge them, and also enough electricity in general, EVs will be the biggest boondoggle in the history of man. And about generating enough electricity..ain't gonna happen with Greenies in power.

I live in CA, and own a tesla, never had to wait in line for a charger, tho seen some lines at supercharger stations right outside of LA. If I did, I'd just go to a supermarket/mall or nice part of town, always superchargers there and always a spot open.
Most of the time, I don't even charge unless I'm at home, or it's just convenient at some parking garage or something.

I had a 93 600 SEL super rare car only $155,000 back in 93. Great car not so great when in for repairs or service every visit $2,000+ my biggest complaint was the windows they were always messed up. So far my $97,000 model X 2016 has not cost me a dime in repairs. I am thinking of getting a new battery THE 12v one under the hood. The big battery is still holding a full charge after 6 years. I’ll take a Tesla over MB every time. And lastly as for LOW ride height you can set the height up 6 different levels. But then that’s what you get when you rent a car for a review.
Mann my friend had a 2019 Ford Fusion and it had electric locks and I got stuck in the back of that thing for 20 minutes… I prefer my older vehicles with push and pull lock pins on the door. Never fails me 👍🏾

If A.I. piloted automobiles will only work when they are the only vehicles on the road, then they'll never work. Are there going to also be A.I. operated motorcycles? we have a model Y. we have put 1700mi on it and it has cost me 20$ in electricity where I live. equiviant cost in our minivan would be 400$. its not for everyone but for all those short trips to the store, gym, school that are hard on gas engines this thing is hands down better and faster.
But if you only do short trips you will NEVER even get close to breaking even for the cost of the EV itself

I just want a vehicle with electronics “as-needed.” i.e., as little as they can get away with. I don’t want a touch-screen infotainment system, I don’t want electric door handles. The problem with electronics is that when one goes bad, they seem to ALL go bad.
Additionally, electrics are expensive to fix, or in many cases easier to replace which can still cost a fortune. An electric door handle is like a solution in search of a problem, and when they do bad they will be more expensive to fix/replace than a mechanical handle.

The suspension can be raised to 5 different heights & that is a basic feature for the Model X.

@@pulga961 It doesn't have a single height, it's dynamic. But standing still it's 5-9 inches between all 5 settings. So 4inches between highest and lowest settings. Again, there is no solid number for ride height becasue it dynamically adjusts. there is also jack-mode that turns off auto-leveling and gives you an inch more.

I rented a model 3 Tesla and the ride was harsher than my Mazda CX5. It cost less than half to recharge than to fill my tank. And the $1,000 upgraded "vegan leather" seat covers to owner paid for let my belt transfer color to it. Impossible to clean off and all the shops I went to said, "It's a luxury car, it should have leather seats. Then that color transfer wouldn't happen." Teslas are not luxury cars from what I experienced.

@@sethriggle1462 I drive a lot for work and I'll still be ahead. I figured all the expenses and saved accordingly. I never broke down from a bad alternator, a bad started, a dead battery, a broken belt, busted hoses...... Never had an oil leak, transmission leak, coolant leak. Never had any maintenance except for tires and brakes and it just hit 230k miles. Brakes seem to last a long time because when you release the accelerator, it practically stops. I use it specifically for work and it is very reliable. We use our Super Duty diesel for traveling.

Not sure if that is "horrendous" or not, to each their own. Tesla offers their own insurance, why? Because they have all the vehicle data and can give custom tailored rates based on driving habits, something the rest of the auto industry can only dream of.

However, the only saving grace was that I had a dashcam and submitted it to Geico and forced them to pay the claim. Glad to hear you had good experience with Geico, I didn't though, and I strongly recommend you get a dashcam to keep Geico honest.
My main problem is that damn recharge time. The day they build an EV that can be topped off from nearly empty in just a couple minutes? That’s the day I’ll be more serious about getting one. Until then they’re to much like a novelty in my personal opinion.
Park your vehicle overnight at your house for several hours while you sleep and charge it. Save yourself time from having to go to a gas station and also time getting oil changes.
Maybe they can start using super capacitors combined with batteries.

Don’t get me wrong they have issues they need to figure out. I live in a condo no home base type place with a garage to just charge up from home overnight. This is a problem for me and many other people. Time is precious and finding a charging station and waiting all that time is garbage. But if I could plug in and charge from home it would not be a problem.

I don’t drive a lot, it’s work and back and maybe groceries etc. if I could charge at home no big deal, but having to go find a station and wait a pretty long time just to get home is another thing. Fact is electric cars are just not practical for everyone, at least not yet. They are cool though, I’m all aboard it just has issues that need fixing. Not just charging either, the electrical grid all over the world needs upgrading or blackouts and brownouts all the time.
Tesla lied it's under lab conditions, 1.9 seconds not possible in real world conditions cuz physics doesn't allow this.
Model X suspensions were upgraded in 2020. Still not as good as Mercedes but pretty good.
I know 3 ppl with Teslas and they all admitted the tech is there to distract you from the overall horridly poor build quality. They have also admitted the tech could not be fully depended on, as all 3 have experienced their share of hiccups whether minor or major. None of them agreed that the car is worth it's asking price. They all feel like they paid for a computer, and the car was an afterthought. None of them were sure if they would buy another Tesla in the future.
I know 4 and they are all happy with it, one will even buy the horrendous looking Cybertruck...

You should do more research in the Tesla company's vehicles. Cause they have a safety feature in place that Doesn't allow the person to drive drive the vehicle without having their hands away from the steamwheel too long all not loud their eyes beat away from the road too long either. They go pretty much screams at you till you put your hands back on or focus back on to the road where they should be. And they proved many other features about the Tesla vehicles since the day you got that 1 too
EVs are *probably* okay enough for daily in-town driving. These are applications and cases where ranges are relatively short and locations of chargers are easily known and accessible. People can also time their charging to charge during off hours at night when they’re not using their car anyway. They’re not quite ready for long road trips, yet. But give them a few years, and they probably will be.
I drive a model 3 long range, AWD, and i go on long trips all the time, without any issues. The range when fully charged is close to 300 miles, and there are superchargers everywhere in new england. Some people even go on road trips of close to 1000 miles and they do just fine.
@@harold5560 It is definitely possible, but not necessarily convenient. The superchargers still take about 20-30 minutes, roughly 4 times the time it takes to fill a 20-30 gallon tank up with gas. End of the world? No. But some people just aren’t ready for that, at this point. Plus, you factor something in like a hour+ traffic jam, you might not be able to make it all the way to that supercharger your car is telling you to drive to. Then what?
And this doesn’t even mention that if EVERYONE did it, it would probably double current demand on the electric grid just for vehicle charging.
All of these problems are solvable. I’m not saying that. But we really need to build some more advanced nuclear power plants, really push the charging network build out and get charging times down to 15 minutes (or less; or come up with pre-charged fast change-out interchangeable batteries) before it’s ready for a comparable experience to gas and diesel vehicles.
@@nrutledge01 Couldn't be more wrong. The government just put billions into expanding the charge network that already had it to where you can drive anywhere in the US without any problems. I've driven my model 3 long distance constantly (from SAC to Vegas and LA) and have never needed to worry about charging since I'll just go to a stop that has chargers and go do something for 20min. Then just charge at whatever place I'm staying at. Trip planner accounts for all of that, and you use very little energy when going slow in traffic. I've been in LA traffic for 3.5 hours at 18% battery and made it out with 10%, lol (used the AC sparingly).
I've got 3 family memebers with teslas, and a good bunch of friends with telsas, I've never heard anyone actually running out of battery before. AS long as you use trip planner, there is no way you'll run out of battery. Even then, just call up tesla service and they will come charge the battery for you wherever you are stuck.
Wrong. I have a late 2020 X with 371 miles of range. DC to Boston with ONE recharge. The ranges are going up too...
@@nrutledge01 , when you decide to do your part to fight global warming as well as air pollution by burning less fossil fuels, you have to sacrifice convenience . Stopping for 20-30 min once or twice during a long road trip to charge is actually pretty fun, you get to explore lots of interesting places and small towns, you get out of your car, go for a walk, spend money on local businesses…
regarding the traffic jams, people rarely or never have a problem getting to the superchargers because of traffic, simply because the tesla gps directly takes you to the closest supercharger based on available range. Also, keep in mind that most tesla owners have home wall chargers.
We do need to make major updates to our infrastructure if everyone were to drive electric cars, and there is little political will to do this, sadly. Yet i’m sure that in places like the northeast, northwest and california we’ll eventually come up with some local solution to this issue, but it is definitely doable.
Finally, there’s a lot of ongoing battery research, and range of EVs just keeps getting better and batteries cheaper. I hate the environmental and social impact of extracting lithium, nickel, cobalt, etc.. but i am hopeful that with recycling and different tech in the future we’ll be able to move on.

You can raise the suspension in a Tesla. You can also set a location alert that will set the suspension to your custom setting when you get to a specific location.. huh? Meaning, when I get to my apartment where there is a steep driveway, I have to raise the suspension so I won’t scrape the bottom of the car. And the valet folks don’t need to know so the car will just raise up any time I get near that driveway… it’s epic actually.

Sorry, Rich really can't help you much. First of all, parts must be sourced - you need to pay the piper (Elon Musk) as Rich can't fix parts especially complex Tesla electronics which had Louis Rossman befuddled. Second there is only THREE locations for electrified garage. If you aren't nearby, you are SOL
2 motors helps acceleration but it hurts range. A single motor would get better range with the same size battery.
Neat trick "stepping on the gas" in an electric car which does have an accelerator but no gas pedal.

The driver took off before I did. That is when I notice he was pulling a huge 7' X 14' cargo trailer. Maybe he carries his money around in the trailer. I have read that range drops by 30% to 60% when you pull a trailer with a Tesla. One guy pulling a 22-foot Airstream got 177 miles between charges, which is just under 50% of the claimed maximum range.
I've seen a guy in Austin Texas towing a huge cargo trailer with his Model X, he accelerates past everyone... going up hill.

My neighbor that has a modelx tows his boat constantly, and it's not a little boat either. Says he never sees his mileage go down too much either just becasue of the dynamic torque and all the tech that makes towing incredibly easy for EVs.
One thing to consider in this Model X and Tesla’s in general is the range and Efficiency. Audi has no where near the efficiency or range per kilowatt as Tesla. Tesla’s are flat out less to operate than most other electric vehicles out there.
You don't drive a $100K car to save on gas (or electricity)! LOL But Teslas are way more expensive than any gasoline cars. My driving my gasoline car for 30 years cost way less than a brand new Tesla that's not even been driven! Wait till it's time to replace Tesla battery out of warranty!

I dont even own a Tesla and I know you can adjust the ride height. I thought suspension softness/hardness could be adjusted as well.
The driving modes also help smoothen the breaking system. My dad pumps breaks really hard but I adjusted the settings to where everything was seamless.
I agree with a lot of what you said scotty except for the autonomous driving mode part.
They are falcon wing doors. Most of the recalls are software fixes not to bad on the hardware side. Interesting take on self driving... I think the future self driving vehicles as the current ones today will not rely on v2v communication. Will see what the future holds.
5G is literally built for autonomous transportation networks, used mostly in warehouse facilities and eventually on the street with inner-city driverless taxi and delivery networks that are just around the corner and have been testing in the field for years now.

Thats not to say v2v protocols wont be helpful, but they sure in the hell wont be depending on 5g networks or any cell based networks for driving critical operations.

Scottie I appreciate you trying to be non-biased in this tour of the Tesla Model X as much as possible. The world is finally starting to wake up to electric vehicles and there are a lot of challenges to solve. You see Tesla's in most parts of the country now. A lot of people point to the power grid as to why we cannot go all (or mostly) electric. And yes, obviously this will be an issue in the short term. But it will be an issue in the same way that it was an issue when AC units became standard in American's households. We will build and upgrade our infrastructure and create jobs in the process. Heck, Texas needs an update regardless of whether they have electric cars or not!!
Another point people often bring up is that the production of electricity is not always better than the consumption of gas. For example, if the majority of electricity comes from coal. This is another true point. But like everything else, we must build our way out of this. These companies who are going electric are doing their part in trying to make sustainable transportation, it's time for state/federal governments to audit their electricity production and find cleaner ways to produce it. The car companies are not going to do that, obviously. Whether it's wind (personally not a fan of wind) solar, or nuclear, these alternatives are all better than coal. With many car companies starting the electric revolution, it's time for our governments to support them to make the transition.
Of course, we will never be rid of gas/diesel cars entirely, at least not in this century. Many poor nations for example will still rely on outdated transportation methods and there will always be people who love the ICE car, as there are people who love the muscle cars of the 60s/70s. Heck, the manual transmission is still alive! All in all, this is a pivotal moment in history, should our generation be successful in the adaptation and implementation of electric vehicles/production then the next century's generations will have a better future and more likely than not, a healthier planet.

My insurance on a Model S 75D is $540 for 6 months. Significantly less than my WRX STi.
My monthly fuel savings is $150 to $250.
Teslas aren't cheap, but they re cheap compared to a comparable car.
Considering you would be wealthy enough for a 100k car, insurance cost is nothing. If anything the time you save without having to go to a "fuel pump" except for very long trips, no down time because no maintenance required, tax rebates, almost zero cost for electricity to charge, and subsides, the cost savings will still be good.

Scotty why isn't Tesla adding a charging system similar to alternators on their cars so the batteries charge themselves as you drive, if 2 alternator type chargers were setup on the rear wheels that would charge the battery as the car was in motion it could virtually eliminate the need to stop for hours to charge the car. I'm not a engineer or a genius but have thought about this type of system for years, making cars that could have an unlimited driving range by charging itself.

Scotty, these self driving calculations are actually using AI technology - not binary. Unlike legacy autos, the FED software can be stress tested using simulation. You can feed as many scenarios as you can without having to test it on the street.
We only have 2 eyes and limited reaction speed. How can we compete against 5 or 6 cameras looking at all angles with lightning reaction?

Got some things right, a lot of things wrong. For instance your assertion that Audis ride better because they've been doing it longer and know how to make suspensions. First of all, suspensions are a supplied part; Bilstein, Ohlins, Continental, ZF, Oxford, Sachs, Fox, Linamar, Showa, Magneti Marelli, Amcast, are just a few examples of suspension suppliers. A company can work with a suspension company, choose active or static, the level of comfort, how much road holding they want, gross weight, type of ride, how much they want to spend, and that's what they'll get... no experience necessary. Just look at how much circuit racing experience Ford had this last time they smashed Ferrari at LeMans... what they did have was the same suspension designer as Tesla (Hubert Mees). What's more, Model S and X have adaptive air suspensions that can be adjusted - a key item you overlooked, especially for one being so critical about the ride.
Tesla is a tech company not a car company. They follow the mantra get it out there fix the bugs later like computer and other tech companies.Great electric motors but the rest of car needs a lot of improvement.Scotty is right on the mark as usual.

@@zaiks0105 You guys are idiots. It uses visual learning aids too. My model 3 has no problem around construction and sign-based visual driving while doing autonomous driving. The cameras can see barriers very easily to avoid them, it's how it avoids other cars, ya ding dong. It can even stop for peds and avoid obstacles.
It's not like there are hundreds of videos of teslas doing this exact same thing since it has cameras all around it, lmfao. You're on youtube just look it up.

You're wrong about the ground clearance. It has air suspension, and you can raise or lower it. There are 5 settings for height..very low, low, regular, high, very high.
We need simple electric cars, not overpriced, overcomplicated stuff. Normal doors work fine every time and are much quicker.

Not at all. You really have to push the car to actually kill that much power. Go watch Teslas at the race track, they will last just barely as long as the ICE do before needing a "refill". Lots of people take their tesla to track days.
Model x has dynamic towing features that, depending on weight, you'll lose about 10-30 miles on hard long range at most. My neighbor has a model x that hauls a pretty nice sized boat, says he has not seen his range get any worse with towing before.
I still wish I owned a Tesla. Probably never will because I know they're just too expensive to own but I still want one. Have wanted an EV for like 40 years before they were even a thought. Back when I was a kid driving RC cars, I thought, man, wish they'd make one of these you could actually get in and drive. A few years ago (3 maybe) a tennis buddy of mine let me ride in his and I told him to floor it after the next round-about. Holy moly that was a take off I will never forget. Really hope before I croak I can own one.
Audi service surfers from parts and labor shortage. My daughter bought a Q7 and got the prepaid service package that would handle oil changes and fluids. So she wanted to get the oil and filter changed and called for an appointment on the 1st of April. The soonest they had an opening was the middle of August. This was in Austin Texas.
So much for Dealer service. Oh by the way they will not refund her charge for the prepaid service even though she has never used it.
