I highly doubt Capra intended for Mary’s career as a librarian to be what’s horrifying about her Pottersville life. On the contrary, it shows that she’s still trying to contribute to the community on her own as best she can by running a place where people can read and learn. The sad part of it is that she’s all alone and miserable. George was her soulmate and if he was never born, then there was no other man that she could ever love. Her career has nothing to do with that.
Good point. I thought the horrible idea was Mary never got married and never had a family. George would feel guilty if he caused that by never being born.
No matter how many times I watch this movie, it makes me laugh and cry everytime. The part where he says "What do you know about that Ernie" and hugs him, my heart just feels like it is going to burst with happiness.
George and Clarence were in Pottersville for only a few hours and both were wanted by the police and even Bert the cop was firing live rounds at George lol!
Whatsa.matter with you 2 guys ... you were here on my wedding night both of you stood out there on the front porch and sung to us don't ya remember? I think I'd better be going.....
Like a lot of movies, you pick up on new things with repeated viewing. Sometime ago I caught on that the snow stops when George is never born, but then it starts again during his prayer at the bridge, showing the real timeline has been restored.
I prefer Bedford Falls over Pottersville. Everyone in Pottersville is Potter-like, personality-wise. Bedford Falls is more optimistic in spite of Mr. Potter.
3:55 Something's not right: 1919 minus 1911 equals 8, not 9. So either Harry was 8 and the quote is wrong, or he was 9 and the dates on the tombstone are wrong.
The most unrealistic part of the movie is when beautiful Mary winds up becoming a librarian spinster when George isn't there to marry her. Donna Reed was stunning.
That's what I was thinking too. Even with how different things were for women in the 40s, Mary still would have had no problem finding another man to marry and have a family with in the reality without George because she's not only beautiful (even with *gasp* glasses), but so kind and compassionate as well and I feel like any man would recognize that and wife her up if George couldn't
The thing was that Mary's soul mate was George and vice versa. His mom even mentioned that she wasn't interested in any other man in town aside him. Mary's dreams was to restore the old mansion, get married and have a family. Without George being born, she gave up the notions of love and works as a librarian.
Having watched the film many times the one scene t find a problem is when Bert starts shooting at George and in within range are both moving cars and pedestrians ? Not very Christmasy
"She's just about to close up the library!" GASP, THE HORROR! That line always makes me laugh.
Shocking isn't it?!! A career working with...BOOKS.

She would've married Sam
@@susanb2015no she wouldn’t have, bc she didn’t love him. Evidenced in the future where George didn’t exist, she still never married
This is a wonderful movie, my favorite!! And not just during Christmas.
GOD bless you all watching.
I love when Ernie is just confused and says I need a drink lmao
Omg when the angle screamed Joseph Joseph 😂😂😂
The funny part is when Bert was trying to handcuffs the snow lol

This beautiful classic story will never ever grow old!! 👍 ❤
Always start cutting onions when it starts snowing again.😢😭
Fun fact, the snow was their delineation between the alternate and the real world.
His face at 2:48 was the birth of ‘Vertigo.’ He has the same expression in that film.
Yup Jimmy's nervous breakdown face
'You're not going to like it George, shes an old maaaaaid!' LOL
Now that's some dramatic license.
"Stand back!" (fires rounds at George while other people walking and driving around)
And in doing so takes out the S, V, and I in the POTTERSVILLE sign lmao, just now noticed
Ah, I heard two lines I've never noticed before! "Somebody hit him over the head with a bottle!" and "He needs a straitjacket!"
Always loved this movIe!
Great movie!
Excellent movie.
George and Clarence were in Pottersville for only a few hours and both were wanted by the police and even Bert the cop was firing live rounds at George lol!
Appreciate, your memories
When George's mother couldn't recognize him I seriously felt ...and still feel.. like crying....
Seeing Pottersville without George Bailey is sad.
Bert and Ernie :-)
Whatsa.matter with you 2 guys ... you were here on my wedding night both of you stood out there on the front porch and sung to us don't ya remember?
I think I'd better be going.....
Yep! It's Burt and Ernie 😂😂😂

6:14 Kermit: DANIEL! DANIEL, WHERE R YOU?!
I WANT MY LIFE BACK, PLEASE!
0:45 This part gives me “Elmo Saves Christmas” vibes!
Big Bird: (Sighing) Snuffy spends Christmas at Granny's for a whole year.
@ Every night I hope that Christmas will end and he’ll come back, but every morning I wake up and it’s still Christmas.
Maria: I know how you feel Big Bird
George built Bailey Park on top of a cemetery in the original timeline
Bert snd Ernie! Must be where the pair originated
Bert and Ernie. IYKYK

i noticed it too. i think harry was born in january 1911 and died in december 1919 so they considered it 9 years old approx
@@kruiser7936Spot on I couldn’t make that out either .
@@stevecunningham5598 i could be wrong but thats what i assumed
Likely Harry wouldnt have existed or would be born at a different time if the Baileys didnt have George
Bert and Ernie. An inspiration to a guy named Jim?
They did an interview saying it did not inspire Bert and Ernie
Did Bert really shoot the “S” of “POTTERSVILLE” at 6:04?
Bert and Ernie: Origins
❤
The gift of Life ♥️

What happened to George going to Mary's house and the honeymoon at the old house and run on the bank.
That happened in the real world. This is the alternate reality/dream that Clarence places in George’s mind.
Pottersville isn't all that bad. It's culturally developed enough to have a public library.
George built homes over a cemetery
Lol
I see dead people.

Not very Christmasy
It's stuff like this is why I can't watch movies with this type of scenarios.
2:30 if Uncle Billy is in the insane asylum, then whos that behind her
Probably Annie or some random guy.
