    I am 100% a spreadsheet person (also a programmer), but I haven't applied it to my gaming. I'm 100% on board with that idea!

    I need to make a spreadsheet for Street Masters
    It's probably the best implementation of the Sadler Bros' 'Modular Deck System'.
    The core box alone has a tonne of replayability but if you have the expansions (which you don't need)... you probably would have to play it for years to complete it!

      Street Masters is simply awesome. There is not double, not triple not quatruple value to be had, it's basically near infinite value. And I only own the core game.

    I think Race For The Galaxy should be an honorable mention, with the "storm" expansion, because the AI adds extra starting planets, and the AI changes with every planet it draws. So you have to figure out the best strat for your planet, and keep in mind how the bot is going to win.

    I'm glad I'm not the only who makes spreadsheets for all my games! Glad to hear you talk about Marvel Champions but sad it didn't make your top 5 (jk, I have a Marvel Champions channel LOL). I've played every bit of MC but not even CLOSE to playing all the civs in Imperium!

    Thank you again for another very interesting video! Have you tried Aeons End. I consider it one of the best board games out there and in terms of replayability as a Double Value Game it has hundreds of combinations. The amount of asymmetric heroes and enemies really change the game in a consistent way.

    Interesting concept! Play as x but also have the option to play against x.
    As for bullet, over on their Discord some really crazy fan based ones are free to print. Aside from bullet, my only other double value game would be The Veil - 40 x 35 enemy combinations x 5 persona to beat.
    Completely turned off from cmon since massive darkness. Empire is not my cup of tea, too chaotic. Dark ventures- backed it but canceled due to the art I could not get over with. I hope the color palette will get toned down next round.
    Spreadsheets are not tied to your "double value" genre. I use spreadsheets as well. I even wrote down all combinations for Sprawlopolis so that it would fit into the ziploc. I call these "forever games", there's quite a lot of those. The cheapest "full game" example (aside from those pnparcade / buttonshy wallet things) would be 7th Wonder Duel, with the free to download AI personas. $15.

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah, you'll notice my spreadsheets are not showing double-value games until I pretend to be surprised by the hyphens in Bullet, as that's the first where a character can't face itself.

      @@JAlanRykerGames It's a pretty obscure and pretty expensive game. The Veil has several game modes
      - hero vs hero

    Modularity is a double edged sword for me. You can tailor your experience how you like, but it also means it can be overwhelming with how much there is available (and I'm a completionist whale, so it's a real problem)

    Clash of eternia I've heard is kind of a mess, with there being two other games using the same license in other countries which are entirely different.
    They're running a gamefound campaign right now, but the core game and earlier expansions and such are only available to backers outside the US as they're available retail.

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good point that being mostly unavailable outside the US limited the reach of MotU Clash for Eternia, and thus definitely hampered discussion around it. I'm torn about getting the two new characters from the current campaign. I actually don't feel like I need them, but they come with some corrected materials.

      @@JAlanRykerGames from what I've heard, the other games using the same license are just better than this one in the US. However, that's just what I've heard from a few people, I have absolutely no personal experience with any of them whatsoever

      @@CGoody5642 there aren't many people who got the chance to try both. Maybe there will be more of a consensus once this gamefound campaign ships. Personally, I'm more into the hex skirmish style of Clash for Eternia than the area control of Fields of Eternia, though I haven't played the latter. I'm hoping CMON further refines the power system and uses it for other IPs

      Last hex related tidbit; there was just a kickstartee not too long ago for an open-source 3d printable hex terrain system called SOURCE! That I'm pretty excited about for general custom hex based maps. I don't have a 3d printer (yet) but anything open-source piques my interest

    Battle of the Ancients could be a truely spectacular game, at least I think it could. The rulebook and the booklets, in font, size, formatting, layout and editing are friggen atrocious. They are a crime.
    It was an absolute pain to make sense of the rules. These endless walls of text, the all over the place-ness, in the the adscence of any coherent structure, made learning the game a pure nightmare. Looking something up quickly is just impossible.
    I believe there is a great game, I just don't have the masochism to battle these rules / booklets over and over again. And no, the PDF core rules are no bit better.
    I don't know if Rob thinks it's super artsy or cool to serve the rules like this, for me it simply killed the game.

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can totally understand that. what kills me is that while the boxes aren't big, they're the perfect size to fit a manual that's just the right size (huge manuals have their own problems as reference). Then the font could be reasonably sized, it could be spaced apart to not make you cross-eyed when trying to look at a single line of text, and there'd be room for more example images, which would be great in a game where the spatial aspect is so important.

    • @Biodelic
      @Biodelic 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JAlanRykerGames The box size is optimal beyond belief for the amount of stuff in it.
      A reformatting of the rule, in PDF form would be heaven.
      A how to play video, of simplest nature, would be paradise. I could work perfectly fine of it. I would even take one in 480p and monochrome.
      Unfortunately, the only gameplay video is with a prototype and really not a teaching video.
