There was so much put into Sonic Adventure that even seeing all of this stuff astounds me as to why the Dreamcast had tanked. Maybe its a hindsight thing but consumer trust after the 32X and Saturn be damned. Because seeing all of this in Sonic Adventure would've had me convinced to keep supporting SEGA in 1999. Hell you'd think in this day and age where AAA games strive for realism and immersion that Seasonal stuff like this would be more commonplace.
TheSkully343 I think issue namely boils down to the market at the time, The Dreamcast came out in a market that had been dominated by the PlayStation. The Dreamcast was just never given a fair shot
the Dreamcast was damned to fail from the start thanks to the huge hype for the PlayStation 2 and new games and series were being made for it at the time. The PS2 was helped by the fact it used DVDs and had better some better hardware (I say "some" because while it's well known PS2 had the vastly more powerful "Emotion Engine" CPU, its "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU had quite a number of disadvantages to the Dreamcast's PowerVR CLX2 GPU - this article talks about it in great detail segaretro.org/Sega_Dreamcast/Hardware_comparison#PlayStation_2 )
With a raspberry pi installed with dreampi you can buy premade kits with all the necessary cords and goodies www.dreamcastlive.net/shop.html You don't need the incredibly expensive BBA either.
You don't NEED DreamPi either. You just need a way to get the DLC onto your VMU. The most obvious way is to get the DC connected to the internet so you can download it from a website still offering the VMU downloads, which DreamPi helps with if you don't have Dialup or a BBA. The cheapest option would be to burn a copy of "Dream Explorer" which is a DC disc that includes a bunch of VMU saves on it that you can just install to a VMU. The SA1 downloads are on there, but you can only install 1 holiday at a time.
Looks like the DLC was supposed to be in the GameCube version, as the music for this is on the disc! Unfortunately, there's no way to make it play in-game (besides hacking). Other DLC made it in as well, such as the Twinkle Circuit tracks, but again, can't be reached by normal means. Guess this is yet another way in which the "DX Director's Cut" version fell short of its ambitious goals.
OOOOHH-AAAAAH BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUMMMM In a dream I can see you are not far away Anytime anyplace I can see... *Station Square music*
Wow, these look like nice decorations in the game for Halloween and Christmas. I like those little Sonics on the Christmas trees. I bet Christmas must be nice in Sonic's world.
thank you for confirming that my memory of there being pumpkin people in SADX wasn’t a fever dream. My family owned a dreamcast in 99 and my brother (6 years older than me) must have downloaded this DLC. I always remembered this.
It would have been interesting if touching the ghosts caused you to lose one ring each time. They're trick-or-treaters, so it would make sense for Sonic to give them something when he ran by them.
I love it when you upload in your channel, I'll stop whatever I'm doing just to watch your vidoes man. I just love looking at old content on sa1 or sa2 this channel is truly a blessing.
It's so sad that SEGA and Sonic Team doesn't put anymore love on their games like they used to. I still enjoy Sonic games a lot despite the fact that they still can't figure out how to do a definitive 3D experience but it would sure be nice if any of the recent games had some holiday related easter eggs.
Jabura Black Knight was the last game with great effort There's actually a reason for that though Sega of Japan no longer makes Sonic after 2009, and their relations with America got worse. Takashi also became in charge of Sonic Team by then, and he just changed to only satisfy American fans. Unfortunately, the American lifestyle has changed drastically to being extremely shallow and casual, so Sonic suffered as a result
WHO NEEDS NEW GAMES WHEN YOU HAVE SA2 also they literally just put annoying ghosts and pictures all over the walls and floors not exactly "love" but it would be cool
I feel like the last Sonic game that had a lot of heart put in it was Sonic Unleashed (HD). But after seeing that some critics hated it, and having better scores with safer and easier games (like Sonic colors), Sonic Team just decided to stay in the easy safe zone :/
Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but the song that plays when the trees are touched is the alternate version of Dreams Dreams from NiGHTS into Dreams... that plays after getting the full ending on the Christmas NiGHTS demo
PSO2 gave away a Mag form, called Jacklan, which is modelled after this Halloween DLC! :) Awesome videos, that I'll have to come back to, again and again.. there's so much left to discover, it seems! Keep an eye out on Hidden Palace, for new protos, if there are any still waiting to be found. ;) Tale care and keep up the awesome work!
Super interesting! How do you get your hands on all of this DLC? Are you using the Steam port of SADX, running BetterSADX and using a mod to add this DLC, or are you using a Dreamcast emulator or something?
Ah, I'd never heard of Demul. The best one I'd heard of was reicast. Demul's github repo seems dead, and it's Windows only :/ Thanks though! Maybe I'll try out this DLC one day, 17 years late xD
Okay, seriously, why has NO ONE modded all this DLC into any PC release of Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut? I know I've asked this before, but I'm going to keep asking this until I get a good answer! Just someone with some knowledge say "it's too hard" or something! That's all I ask!
RarefoilB Then you should follow @pkr_sadx on twitter he's the first person to figure out how to extract data from the vmu/dlc files so far he has recreated 3 DLC as mods. He's also the author of the SADX Dreamcast Conversion Mod which restores the graphics from the dreamcast Fixes a ton of sound issues and restore many stuff missing from SADX and also adds HD icons for almost everything you should check that out too.
This is super cheaply made. But don't forget that it is something. Most developers make a game and never update it or release anything for it. These guys are good.
This was so shoddily put together, it was so lazily done and to be honest, Twinkle Park looks like it's what started the Sonic recolor OC trend. The constant "Trick or treat"s that are in random directions like a blind guy did graffiti, the random placements of the ghosts... It looks like a test level, to be honest. Nothing is coherent, as far as the NEW content here. But back in the day this was HUGE. The idea of custom levels being downloadable through the internet, something that in and of itself was but a child, was awesome. I wasn't around back then but just think about it.
Uncle Maverick I know what you mean. It has that old charm. It sort of made me think this one guy at Sega was excited about holiday dlc but nobody else cared. So he did as much as he could on his own with the time limit. Then he showed the manager and he was like " Sure. I guess we can put that in.". Haha.
The only writable storage on the Dreamcast was the VMU. So what's so shoddy about it? They had nothing to work with other than 156KB. The Christmas song wasn't already on the disc. So I can imagine it eating up the entire VMU by itself.
Was messing around with the Christmas DLC in a modded version of the DX port on pc and some of the trees played a different rendition of Dream Dreams. The Sweet Mix in Holy Night version I believe
It be cool for when and if they port SA1 to the XBox One or PS4 that they'll add these features in as an Easter egg for getting a certain amount of emblems.
I wish games still did stuff like this, that and the online connectivity for the adventure games were so cool (i mean, I wasn’t there but its still cool)
I'm surprised nobody talks about this but games on the Sega Dreamcast would change into more festive textures for certain Holidays! I'm not kidding! This would also happen with Ready 2 Rumble as well. Sure, it wasn't elaborate and it may be a bit lazy, but it was pretty fun to be honest. I kind of wished games today did that!
it’d be really cool if the Steam release was updated with all the DLC. The Holiday stuff would be active during those holidays, obviously. That would be really rad. Maybe if someone does a pseudo-remake like Sonic 3 A.I.R, that could be a feature.
It wasn't the most festive song for Christmas, was it? I think I preferred those cheaper sounding midis they used for the previous year as at least they were recognisable Christmas songs. Still, the trees looked a bit better.
This is making me feel nostalgic, despite never seeing this before
Bump 2021
Bump 2022
Because modern video games don't do the same stuff today. And when they do, it doesn't have that specific charm.
@@faeronix Plenty of modern games have holiday themed events
Those are the ghosts from Sonic Heroes. Holy shit
Really good eye 👀
rainopaino No, Heroes used different models
Sonikku A I know that.
Well, they're stylized the same, but they're not the same, no.
I like to think the sonic heroes ghost were a callback to this
Trick or Treat intensifies.
BlueCollieC ;v

TheSkully343 I think issue namely boils down to the market at the time, The Dreamcast came out in a market that had been dominated by the PlayStation. The Dreamcast was just never given a fair shot
They had messed up so much in the past that when they really cared, the consumer was already done. Kinda like the kid who cried wolf :(
In addition to the above, piracy was rampant on the DC, hurting sales of games.
the Dreamcast was damned to fail from the start thanks to the huge hype for the PlayStation 2 and new games and series were being made for it at the time.
One reason: PS2 could play DVDs. I know that seems really stupid but that's what happened lmao
These are some of my favorite videos on the internet TBH lol
The best thing is that sorts of things were absolutely mind blowing back in the day, today this would feel like a cheap mod.
Holy crap, those ghosts with pumpkin heads remind me so much of Sonic Heroes, in Mystic Mansion.
Too bad they didn't make a reprise for the GameCube and Later ports.
Corbijn Lewis Another team did the ports. They tried to make the artstyle more like SA2
Corbijn Lewis Luckily all the Dlc is back online now and the online leaderboards so people can easily access it now
With a raspberry pi installed with dreampi

Oh thanks
Holy shit, I was wondering where this came from! I have it on my NiGHTS soundtrack and could never figure out where it originated.
It came from Christmas NiGHTS, the free Saturn demo.
there's Puppet Panic Act 1 in the first part of twinkle park
That's a very nice holiday decoration event you're having there, Station Square. It would be pity if someone were to destroy it with the city...
"Anytime any place, I can se-"
The Dreamcast had DLC back in 1999...talk about "ahead of its time"
The DLCs were free and for download on his Website
In fact I wasn't even born yet when these came out, but it still gives me nostalgia?
These DLC are beautiful
Wow, these look like nice decorations in the game for Halloween and Christmas. I like those little Sonics on the Christmas trees. I bet Christmas must be nice in Sonic's world.

Ooh man, I'm digging the Beach Boys vibes the Christmas tree song is giving me.
biaza it’s from Christmas Nights into Dreams!

we need a mod that changes this to skeletons
*SPOOKY SCARY SKELETONS*
YES
These videos are so interesting to watch. Keep it up man.
You forgot to check Big's Twinkle park for any of those Trick or treat robots! ;~;
The ghosts aren't character dependent, so Amy and Big see the same things Sonic passes by at 3:30.
Now THIS is what I call partying like it’s 1999
Trick or Treat Adventure DX
these are official?
SuperUnknownPerson yes they are
It's so sad that SEGA and Sonic Team doesn't put anymore love on their games like they used to. Perhaps sonic will find a new home with the mania devs?
WHO NEEDS NEW GAMES WHEN YOU HAVE SA2
also they literally just put annoying ghosts and pictures all over the walls and floors not exactly "love" but it would be cool
Robert Verdugo They misrepresented him as cute. He honestly will be false hype to appease IGN there
I feel like the last Sonic game that had a lot of heart put in it was Sonic Unleashed (HD). But after seeing that some critics hated it, and having better scores with safer and easier games (like Sonic colors), Sonic Team just decided to stay in the easy safe zone :/
Those ghosts seem annoying to deal with all over the level.
It still amazes me how so many textures were lost in the DX port.
Now if only someone would do a recreation of the New Years 1999 DLC for SADX...
im even surpirsed this sonic game even had dlc i thought it wasnt till um unleased had the first dlc for sonic games
Housin Engi unleashed had dlc??
Thanks for making these videos man :D
Amy's Mirror Hall already looks like a haunted mansion without the Halloween decorations, and yet, the decorations fit really well with the place.
Too many Pyro Jacks.
I was gonna say. It's funny too cause Sega owns Atlas.
Lone Devil Hee ho!
OMG The *NiGHTS Into Dreams* Christmas theme music! That is awesome
The ghosts did reappear in the Hang castle zone from Sonic heroes and this time they are enemies
I remember downloading this on my dreamcast. Was amazing at the time!
where can I download the Christmas song?
The song is Dreams, Dreams acapella version off of the Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams soundtrack
Priscilla Titor thank you! XD
you're a hero of our time Priscilla!
Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but the song that plays when the trees are touched is the alternate version of Dreams Dreams from NiGHTS into Dreams... that plays after getting the full ending on the Christmas NiGHTS demo
DLC existed back then? Wow!
The tree plays Dreams Dreams from Nights!
Trick or Treat
Tbh I would of loved this back when I was a kid.
Aw the Pumpkin Ghosts saying Trick or Treat is so wholesome
It was nice to know. Developers actually cared
at the beginning of the christmas song it sounds creepy than relaxing
That's _Dreams Dreams - Acapella_ from the _Christmas NiGHTS: Into Dreams_ demo for the Sega Saturn. And yes, it's bad.
PSO2 gave away a Mag form, called Jacklan, which is modelled after this Halloween DLC! :) Awesome videos, that I'll have to come back to, again and again.. there's so much left to discover, it seems! sonic2kk Demul DC emulator, it's the only one that's accurate to read VMU add-ons and do internet
Ah, I'd never heard of Demul. The best one I'd heard of was reicast. Demul's github repo seems dead, and it's Windows only :/ Thanks though! Maybe I'll try out this DLC one day, 17 years late xD
sonic2kk It's a bit heavy on performance, and audio suffers when it lags
sonic2kk actually modders are porting the DC's DLC to PC right now at the moment 3 of the 10+ has been released so far
HyperSonic1999 or JTH | Oh thank you now I know.
Ah, so this is where the Sonic Heroes ghosts came from. Nice. Also, Halloween Hall of Mirrors is really quite fitting.

S.C.H 2.8 | Thank you.
I'm happy I got this to work on reicast, oh also the Cutscene where amy gets kidnapped has some funny errors due to the sign on the ground.
I'm glad ppl didn't forgot about this game
This is super cheaply made. But don't forget that it is something. Most developers make a game and never update it or release anything for it. These guys are good.
true :c
Is The Girl That Got Buried In Big's Story *Maria?*
idk :P
Good theory. That may be a link between SA2 And SA1

I'm 17 so I grew up with the E-reader and a Gameboy advance. Yeah my childhood gaming kind of sucked.
and the disappointment these kids felt when they realized they literally added a few sprites and thats it.
Well it was pretty much some of the first DLC in gaming history, considering it was a dreamcast launch title.
The only writable storage on the Dreamcast was the VMU. So what's so shoddy about it? They had nothing to work with other than 156KB.
The Christmas song wasn't already on the disc. So I can imagine it eating up the entire VMU by itself.
I think it’s cool how they managed to do this in 1999. Even though it was just a date and time thing.
Thank you! :) The song that plays is from Christmas Nights by the way!
i remember that from my dreamcast, great times!
Was messing around with the Christmas DLC in a modded version of the DX port on pc and some of the trees played a different rendition of Dream Dreams. The Sweet Mix in Holy Night version I believe
Wherever I think of this game it make me nostalgia
Why the song of the tree sounds like something by kendrick lamar
Shoutouts to simpleflips
ManMadeOfGold Shoutouts to singleflips
ManMadeOfGold Cool
I was not expecting that to be the Christmas music.
I've never seen this documented before. That's really neat!
"Trick or Treat!" - Ghost pumpkin things 1999
How much god damn DLC did the Sonic Adventure games have?! XD
ShadowSilver1991 More than people in earth
Back when DLC was free.
why do i have nostalgia even though i’ve never experienced this...
wait, that christmas song sounds like a different version of Nights Nights from NiGHTS Into Dreams
What if someday we see a re-release of all these dlc's though
@9:05 The end credits music from Christmas NiGHTS for Sega Saturn
It be cool for when and if they port SA1 to the XBox One or PS4 that they'll add these features in as an Easter egg for getting a certain amount of emblems.
I wish games still did stuff like this, that and the online connectivity for the adventure games were so cool (i mean, I wasn’t there but its still cool)
I wish Adventure and 2/2B had these as DLC; even the Dreamcast online exclusive stuff as bonus content with an in-game browser somewhere
Merry Christmas!
10:42 A *big* cramped?
*FRROOOOGGGYYY*
This whole video I just heard Julian from OneyPlays saying "Happy Halloween!" and "Wow!"
that christmas song seems to be the nights one

Mirror Hall’s theme is actually really unsettling for me...
the halloween ghosts are like the ones used in sonic heroes for the haunted castle
Merry chritsmass from 1999
Wow Sega really put a lot of things on his first 3D sonic game.....they really CARED
Weren't the ghosts reused for Sonic Heroes?
the jack-o-lanterns don't cast reflections
so i guess you could call them jack-o-pires.
End of the Century January 1, 1900 through December 31, 1999.
It wasn't the most festive song for Christmas, was it? I think I preferred those cheaper sounding midis they used for the previous year as at least they were recognisable Christmas songs. Still, the trees looked a bit better.
woah i only knew about the christmas one, nuts
They had DLC back in 1999? Cool.
Nice! The Tree song is from NiGHTS!
WHAT THE HELL I NEVER KNEW ABOUT THIS LOL
I did know of the SA2 DLCs but I didn't know SA1 had them too
1:25
It's the ghosts from Sonic Heroes.. Sadly, SEGA didn't put it to SADX
Thank you for showing us sa1 holiday dlc decoration's
You can also play the DC version of SA in 60 fps now with the action replay cheat
I regret not being savvy enough to nab any of these back then. But then again, I was only 11.
1:23 that's actually pretty cool, 1999 free LC
I can't wait to download this DLC on my 56k Modem
8:56 that happened while i was playing. Also since the DLC wasn't longer available I'll say it's cool but shouldn't hold up a story line
is it possible to get this dlc in 2017?
I can't unhear Panic Puppet from Sonic 3d blast in Twinkle Park.
Edit: If ya want to be specific, it's the part with the bumper cars.
