  • It was a beautiful day in May - perfect for a nice spin on my Priority 600 bicycle. I parked at the Rotary Park in Fairhaven, and cycled along the trail to where it comes out on Chuckanut Drive near the Clayton Beach Trailhead.
I had read a few different routes for the place where the trail-line's trestle is gone. One is to bike the steep switchbacks on the hiking trails of Arroyo Park. The other was to take a detour on the roads. I talked to a local and he recommended the roads - not only are the trails steep in the park (I also read that they are confusing), but there are a lot of people hiking them especially on the weekend. The road detour was short and simple, and then I was back on track.
The railroad history of this rail trail was of particular interest to me since it was a trolley track. There were numerous electric train routes in the PNW in the early 1900's and this was one of them - extra cool that it had a nickname and 4 miles of trestle over the water back then. I could find very little on this line, but here are two links that have some good info and a couple photos:

This ride was on the traditional territory of the Nooksack, Semiahmoo, and Nuwhaha people.

    Great ride!
I'm thinking of getting a mountain bike to tackle some old logging roads where vehicles can't go.

Good idea - it's such a great way to cover more distance and get you further out there. Plus you can put bags on the bike and lose the backpack, which is nice.

That looked like a great place to ride. My bike has been sitting on my porch since the snow left. You've given me some motivation to get out there and do some actual biking. 👍👍

Very nice! I rode 15.4 miles this morning. It was only 87° but humidity was 70%. We had cloud cover. Got home & the sun came out & the word for it is "brutal". Staying inside the rest of the day! Enjoyed your video 😊

Oh that sounds brutal - good thing you got out when you did! I think even 87 with cloud cover sounds pretty brutal 😆 Thanks for watching and commenting, and have a fantastic weekend!

Another good video, rode this trail a few years back, due to ride again, we probably hit checkanut several times a year with something that burns fossil fuel, have you been farther up north to lummi shore road, beautiful drive, be a good bicycle ride too

I haven't, but adding it to the list! Looks like it might be a fun ride to follow that road, then hop across to Lummi Island and pedal around there too! I definitely need to check that out - thanks! 😃
