Spencer Spit State Park, Lopez Island
We seized a break between rain showers to visit this beautiful little Washington State Park on Lopez Island. The scenery was lovely, and interesting with the saltwater lagoon set into the spit.
Having family along made it especially fun. Stay tuned at the end for some silly outtakes.

While I was on Lopez Island to learn more about my family history, and see places my mom remembers growing up there, we also made some time for a few hikes. I live half a mile from this trail. Walk parts of it a few times a week. The duck feeding zone. People feed them here which is why they hang out so much.. As for the Lake Youngs trail. Completely different. All gravel, up and down hills, a few steeper. One short 17-18% grade. Mostly wide, some single track areas in east and north sections. There is one spot you can get a glimpse of the lake through the fence.

I enjoyed seeing the lush green forest with the massive Oak trees. Great shots of the birds, it makes me want to up my wildlife photography game. You certainly know your birds. Well done. 👍

Thank you! ☺ I have a lot of practice with birds since I have so many at my house. I track all the wildlife I see and ID all the birds. I have been writing down all the ones I see each day for about 10 yrs! Crazy? Probably 😆

Awesome, you got to see so many pretty birds! I haven’t visited this NWR before… great that you can walk some trails and drive some too. Pretty Egret! I like seeing the Shovelers… once in awhile we see them over winter but I haven’t seen any for a few years. Super cool to learn there are nesting Sandhill Cranes there. Great photos of the yellow-headed black birds! Wow, great access to see the wildlife, we’ll have to visit sometimes… thanks for sharing with us! 👌☀☀☀

I think you would really enjoy visiting there! I love those shovelers. I rarely see them, but there were a lot at Ridgefield. They are so cute and comical with those giant bills! A lot of people see owls there too, but I didn't when I went. I was pretty happy with the ones I did see though. Have a great week! The sunshine is coming! 😃

@@HikerT You sure got to see a variety of birds! I definitely want to visit - seeing owls would be exciting! I checked it out on the map- next time we’re going that way I’ll build in some extra time!

Great video! I have only been there in late November, nice to see the place in the spring. We saw lots of nutria. The oaks are a real treat, many old ones. You did a good job showing us the birds and giving id's. One of my favorite places for sure! Look forward to more videos.

Maybe I'll try in November for the nutria sightings 😃 I definitely recommend spring for the birds though - wow! I was really blown away by the variety, and as you drive slowly along with your windows down you can hear even more that you never see. I heard a bittern but never did see it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

I've really been enjoying your van conversion and days! Keep up the great work! I am working on a no build conversion on my van for camping trips. Will you do any meetups in the future?

Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying it. ☺ I was originally going to do a low-build with no electric but one thing led to another and here I am now. Definitely more expensive both in time and money to do it this way, and often I wish I had done a no build as well. What kind of van are you working on? I hope to do meetups in the future, but I don't have any in particular on my radar at this time. It would be really cool to check out other people's rigs and meet people.

@HikerT I have a minivan...Chrysler Pacifica. All the back seats fold down into the floor. I've been following Butterfly Women Who Camp on Facebook and they sometimes have Washington state meetups! I also have an electric bike. I watched your biking videos too! Keep up all your good works!
