I remember my first century ride. It was actually 111 miles so at mile 90 I stopped in a rest stop. I was toast and about to quit. Then this older lady said. “What feels like torture now will feel like a grand adventure when you are done and can take a shower and have a beer “. Whenever I am really in pain I start chanting with each pedal stroke. “Shower and a beer”. So I understand your comment about a beer and a burger as a trophy.

I really appreciate a rare video that actually shows the scenery instead of just the bike trail right in front. Being able to travel slower than a car and enjoy the beauty, fresh air, and sunlight is the other reason to ride a bicycle including the exercise of course. I just don't have the need for high speed and extreme thrills. Thank you.

  • @Firefly-trike
    @Firefly-trike 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Watching this video made me realize something about myself in wanting to make a video on my recumbent trike.
The solitude and being different from all the other bicycle touring videos. So many of those videos are the same. High tech overlay of music, editing and narrative. The problem with those to me is they all blend together and become the same thing.
I'm not a technology type of person. As I thought of all the burdens in trying to make a touring video for others to watch. I realized watching this video that I can be totally different than the rest.
My video will be very basic and simple. It won't be overlayed with a whole lot of technology glamor.
I'm not that type of person, so why try and be like everyone else.
I'm mostly a loner type of person, I like my solitude away from the drama of everything and every body.
Thank you Foresty Forest for your video. It inspired me and gave me a answer to my dilemma about how I want to make my own video touring.

I know this video was made about 3 yrs ago...but I never get tired of re watching them...I doubt that any of us realize just how much works goes into one of these videos! The fact that you set the camera up to watch you riding down a steep mountain road means that you have to come back up that road to retrieve the camera...and you do it time and time again when you have to be dog tired and yet your videos never suffer from poor editing...my favorite van life channel by far. Thanks for all the hard work you do...you are a perfectionist and it shows...I love it! And if you are ever in N. Outstanding footage! Thank you for all off your good work. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this vid. More shots from a chest mount or helmet mount cam blended in might add to the story. Working a while and saving for your next adventure and repeating could be viewed by some as a listless, wandering existence......Those who see it that way fail to recognize that one's life is lived in the moment. It isn't the pile of things you collect that bring you satisfaction......it is the list of experiences and relationships you build with people that are the treasures of life. I envy your determination for your adventure at your age.......something I drowned in booze and pot when I was young. Don't let anyone steal your dreams. Every man dies, few men truly live. Bike on, Dude!

Damn brother. Mad respect! I would love to do this too. Have binge watched your videos to this point, about to convert my van and totally emulate your lifestyle. What you said earlier about your freedom being the most important thing. Definitely me, 100%. No job is more important than my freedom. Lived out there and traveled throughout the Southwest. My favorite part of the US. Amazing adventure!

Slowly adding to my Surly (gears, racks, etc). Very Inspiring for an older dude with aging knees. Fat bikes are much more than mud and snow. I am really enjoying mine. Sorry to clog up the site. I saw my old post prior to purchasing my bike.

I just bought my first fat bike, but it’s a 1000 watt e cell AWD bike, I old now and retired so I need the battery 🔋 for help I am still strong 💪 and hopping to get stronger. I hope 🤞 to see a lot of the back country with this bike they say it get about 70 miles with peddling so that’s nice. I can put it on a tow bar hitch with bike rack on the back of my new Honda Ridgeline truck and a small generator to charge the battery 🔋. Wish I could afford that new Tesla truck I could charge the bike with my truck battery 🔋.

@@crosisofborg5524 Actually fat bikes have been around and in use for a long time. It's like Minecraft, people say "oh it's only popular now" but they've always been there. I've seen them regularily all the way back to 2008.
The real fad is pretending a 1x drivetrain with less gears somehow has more range and the severe cross chaining is suddenly ok now. That and roadbikes with wider 1980s style tires are so much "faster" now. Running out of marketing ideas and going backwards just to keep sales up to the braindeads who obsess over anything with "le new" label on it.

I totally agree. My first one was delivered today. I rode my brother in law's fat bike last september. I was amazed at how well it handled deep sand and gravel. Every Spring he and some friends do an 85 mile trip around a lake in Western Nevada. That's their boys week out. Over all kinds of terrain and all are hard tails. Amazing how much of the bumps the tires soak up. Anyway, I live just east of Carson City Nv and there are old mining roads all over the place out here. I think I'll take my prospecting gear along with me. Instead of racks, backpacks and panniers, I bought a Burley flat bed trailer to carry the extras... Hopefully it will all work out good!

I cycled from Myrtle Beach, SC up to Erie, PA and made it as far east as Huron, OH ...my choice of bike was the Surly BFD. I returned back to MBSC because there was a report of a Cat-3 heading towards our shores. If I start again where I left off, it'll be in 2020, and hopefully not going at it alone. But I will say that going at it 100% alone is extremely difficult, not-so-much due to financial, though mainly to one's mentality. My biggest issue wasn't the journey, it was stopping for the evening ...my mind being stretched all day, then snapped back, and in the unknown(unfamiliar areas) gets a little jarring & overwhelming.

I am watching this vid again after a few times. I just love the music, the fantastic camera work and especially Foresty's sense of humor. I long to be there, on the open adventure, not knowing what the next day will bring. This day to day existence isn't living......every day in the saddle on your fatbike.........now that is living! I enjoy solitude as much you do, but wouldn't a partner on one of these excursions be a good thing? Rock On

Man i can't even imagine. Folks like you who wantingly choose to tour on fat bikes will forever have my serious respect. Here in MN I dread fat bike season and even then only ride it out of pure necessity commuting in the winter.
Its not the below zero (in Fahrenheit) and insane windchills that have me reaching for the car keys on those dark december days. its truthfully the slow @** fat bike. drives me bonkers expending so much energy to go so dsrn slow.
I will say over the years I've learned things always go better snd somehow i seem to make better time if i resign myself from the start thats its just going to be slow goings. So much of cycling is a battle between ears and watching videos like yours and drawing motivation from you and others have left me no longer fighting the likes of hulk hogan or mike Tyson in my head and more like some dude with the upper body strength of KOM in le tour. you seriously rock man. keep it up and mad props!

I built a drone you just click a button on the handlebar and it leaps off top of your helmut and does a full panorama of you for up to 15 minutes. You click to tell it when to come back and land. I can see its camera in my head-set. When ever I am breaking it charges the battery under my seat. Helmut is connected to that from my back .
